EVERY STUDENT, EVERY DAY, PREPARED TO MEET LIFE’S CHALLENGES

As you all know, these past few months we have entered into unchartered waters. We know that this year will be full of life’s challenges. As a united Paradise community, we will get through these difficult times. Together we can ensure that our students are given the very best opportunity to learn and thrive in an environment in which we know is not the best for the age of our students. We all would much rather have our students on campus learning through a collaborative approach. However, student and staff safety is our number one priority. That being said, as a school community of students, families and staff we will need to unite to make this year a success.

that can be easily transitioned back to in-person learning, when it is safe to do so.

IMPORTANT DATESPlease review the following dates as these are pertinent for all families. Tuesday, July 28th - Friday, July 31st

Technology pick-up for those students who do not have an available device at home. Please see the pick-up schedule by last name in upcoming slide.

Wednesday, July 29th Receive an email or ClassDojo message indicating your homeroom teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.

Friday, July 31st Virtual Meet the Teacher. Teachers will send a link to the email provided in PowerSchool to introduce themselves and review their distance learning model in more detail by 2:00pm

Friday, July 31st Teachers will email week 1 distance learning template by 3:00pm.

Monday, August 3rd First day of distance learning begins.

LEARNING PLATFORMWe will use Google Classroom as our main platform for instruction and collection of assignments. Since this is the platform used in most of our upper elementary classrooms, as well as PHMS and PHHS, this will help our students be prepared in the future. We realize that there will be a learning curve for our littlest Cubs, therefore we will still balance these activities with those that are age-appropriate for every level. Log-in information will be provided by homeroom teachers.

TECHNOLOGYChromebooks will be provided on a needs basis only. At PHES, we do not have a one-to-one ratio for devices. We are asking that if you do not need a device, please do not check one out. Distribution of technology will happen next week. Please complete the Technology Survey at the end of this presentation. Please enter the campus off of Reems Road. Drive around the front of the parking lot. Drive-thru pick-up will be on the east side near the cafeteria/Cubs Connection double doors. Please follow city and county orders and wear a face covering while interacting with a staff member.

DISTANCE LEARNING MODEL● There will be daily lessons in reading, writing, math, and either social

studies or science. ● Although we will “mirror” the content that would be taught if we were in

person, we know we can’t “mirror” the time blocks. We will be flexible for our working families.

● Teachers will send out the distance learning template to families on the Friday prior to each week by 3:00pm.

● Families will receive their first week template on Friday, July 31st by 3:00pm.

● Distance learning templates will be sent via email, through ClassDojo, and they will be posted on grade level websites.

ENHANCED DISTANCE LEARNING ● Teachers will provide daily pre-recorded videos to model concepts in both

reading and math. These links will be located on the distance learning templates, as well as on the teacher websites.

● Teachers will develop time to interact in small groups with students for social interaction, support, and enrichment via Google Meet.

● Teachers and staff will be available daily for live academic support for at least four hours. “Daily Support Schedules” will be shared by your homeroom teacher.

● Grade level and teacher websites will be available July 31st. Teachers will share the link in through their virtual Meet the Teacher presentation.

ACADEMIC SUPPORT DURING DISTANCE LEARNING

Various ways to get academic support throughout the course of the week.

Email Please email the teacher if you have questions or concerns regarding assignments.

Class Dojo Each homeroom teacher uses Class Dojo to communicate with families. The homeroom teacher will send you the link on July 29th.

Websites Each grade level team, including Special Education and our Special Area Teachers, will have a uniform website that will includes weekly distance learning templates, video models, supporting documents and resources to assist students and families

Online support Homeroom teachers and support staff will be available from Monday - Friday to assist children with assignments through Google Meet.

DISTANCE LEARNING PARENT CONTRACTNow more than ever, you will be an integral part in the education of your child. They are going to need us to work together as a team to ensure they are receiving the very best educational experience possible in this unique situation. Within the distance learning template, you will notice that certain assignments have symbols next to them.

Indicates this is an assignment for the student to complete without parental support in order for teachers to give authentic feedback and support to students and parents prior to the graded work.

Indicates this is an assignment for students to complete without parental support AND will be included in the gradebook.

You will be receiving an electronic contract to to sign from Paradise Honors Elementary School. This contract will be part of the electronic documents we collect within the first week of school.

GRADINGStudents will be graded during distance learning using our traditional grading model that we would use if we were in-person. The grading scale is defined below. Teachers will identify within the distance learning templates which assignments will be graded and recorded in PowerSchool. Other assignments will be used to gauge student progress toward the learning goal and provide teachers with an opportunity to give feedback. There will be time built into the distance learning templates to practice the new concepts before they are graded. Failure to complete assignments will directly impact quarter 1 grades. Flexibility will be provided for our youngest Cubs.

GRADING CONTINUED ● If you have questions regarding your child’s distance learning

ATTENDANCEDaily attendance is state required. There will be a link for attendance on the distance learning template. Parents will need to submit daily attendance by 9:00am each school day. Teachers will send attendance to the registrar by 10:00am. If your child is unable to participate in distance learning, please call the registrar to report the absence by 9:00am. Include your child’s first and last name, the date, and the homeroom teacher.

A.R.S. § 15-901 requires students who generate 10 consecutive unexcused absences to be dropped, retroactive to the last day of attendance. If a student in DL generates 10 consecutive days of unexcused absences, they must be dropped retroactively.

SPECIAL AREA CLASSES● Special area teachers will provide weekly activity options for every grade level.

The link can be located on the distance learning templates and on the special area teachers website.

● Special area assignments are optional, but encouraged. These are fun activities that the students love to do.

● Students will be encouraged to turn in some of their work so we can showcase the work on the special area teachers website.

● We will not be reporting grades for our special area classes for the first quarter.

SPECIAL EDUCATION SUPPORT● Special education staff will be reaching out to each individual family. ● Students who qualify for special education support will be using the appropriate

grade level distance learning template modified to meet the individual needs. ● Occupational therapy and speech services will be provided. Case managers will

coordinate these services with individual families● Special education staff will be available throughout the day to support students

via Google Meet.

EVERY STUDENT, EVERY DAY, PREPARED TO MEET LIFE’S CHALLENGES Our Paradise vision is “Every student, every day, prepared to meet life’s challenges.” We teach our students day in and day out not only to be productive students who advocate for passions they believe in, but also to go out and make a difference in the world each and every day. The pandemic situation that we are all living through is yet another example of our students doing the best he/she can while adjusting to the distance learning format. We are so very proud of the resilience of our students and their ability to adjust. We know that this is not an ideal way for children to learn, but we are committed to the safety for our students and our staff.

The staff at Paradise is looking forward to our first day of virtual school on August 3rd. Please know that we are in this together.
