Reactions 634 - 18 Jan 1997 Paracetamol – no adverse effects on pregnancy Paracetamol [acetaminophen] has no adverse effect on pregnancy itself, and in utero exposure to the agent does not adversely affect the development of infants, according to findings of the UK-based Avon Longitudinal Study of Pregnancy and Childhood (ALSPAC). In the study, 44% of 12 104 women took paracetamol during the first 6 months of pregnancy. Mothers and their children were followed from early pregnancy. The ALSPAC study is ongoing, and aims to identify factors affecting health in children and adults, including over-the-counter and prescription medicines. Paracetamol in pregnancy.
