a short drive from the Yacht club.
Port Moresby is the capital city of Papua
New Guinea, the Royal Papua Yacht
Club having 256 berths ranging from 9
to 30m.
Papua New Guinea has more than 600
islands and is home to more than seven
million people.
The currency is Papua New Guinea Kina
(kee-nah), divided into 100 toea (toy-ah)
and is named after the traditional shell
money. Most international EFTPOS and
credit cards are accepted in local ATMs
and banks will also exchange major
currency's readily.
In Port Moresby English is spoken
everywhere, as is Tok Pisin or Pidgin.
Port Moresby has two seasons, the wet
and the dry. The dry brings consistent
south easterlies and offers great sailing.
This season runs from May to
November.
Temperatures range from 26o to 28o, and
water temperatures a little higher.
The country operates on Western Pacific
Standard Time (GMT +10:00).
Melanesians are modest by nature
and dress, particularly for women
should be conservative.
Electricity is 240 volt, plug pin
size and gas bottle fittings are the
same as Australia. Re-filling
facilities are available.
DHL, and TNT offer reliable
courier services.

The RPYC or “Yachtie” can
organize berths and clearances
for cruising boats with a little bit

The Yachtie has a range of facil-
ities including a café, restaurant
and bar meals. The open air deck
overlooks the Harbour and is a
top spot for sundowners with an
SP—the local brew.
The club operates a radio service
on VHF84—call Papa Yankee
Charlie between 0800 and 1900
hours. The club can also monitor
vessels via AIS, and has a rescue
vessel for local assistance.
Free wi-fi is available, there is a
token operated laundry; shower
facilities and a gymnasium. The
RPYC also has a running and
fitness track within the grounds.
There is a self serve floating fuel
dock within the marina where
clean petrol and diesel can be
obtained by using a pre purchased
fuel card.

POMSAC, the RPYC dive club
can organize a snorkeling trip for
interested sailors. Dive trips can
also be organized for keen divers.
There are restaurants and bars
within club grounds and also a
short walk from the club. These
offer lazy breakfasts, lunches
and dinner options.
Take away alcohol and ice can
be procured from the club.

on your behalf [email protected]. When in VHF range contact the marina on CH 84, they will notify
customs and direct you to the quarantine area. PNG offers a 60 day visa on arrival to visiting boats which can be
extended by a further 30 days if required.

Details of yachts insurance if you wish to take advantage of berthing on the
marina otherwise safe anchoring opportunity's exist within the marina break

Activities
There are a number of entrances through the reef, Basilisk Passage located at 9° 32.18 S 147° 07.91 E being the closest to Port Moresby.
After passing through Basilisk passage remain on the leads until you have passed Larks patch on your port side then turn NNW traveling
about 3.5NM to the inner harbour. Fairfax harbour as well as the surrounding area is well charted. The RPYC is located at 9° 27.95 S 147°
09.07 E.

The ‘Goroka Show’ is a significant cultural event in the Highlands region of Pa-
pua New Guinea (PNG). It is also the longest running annual cultural festival in
Papua New Guinea drawing thousands of tourists to the country every year in
September during the nation's Independence Day celebrations.
The 2018 Goroka Show is tentatively set for September 15th to 17th in Goroka
Town, Eastern Highlands Province. Note there are a number of other exciting
cultural shows across the country throughout the year.
The Goroka Show aims to once more provide the best in cultural entertainment to the people of
the Eastern Highlands Province and make visitors feel welcome from Papua New Guinea and
around the world. Held every year during the weekend closest to Independence Day, the Goroka
Show is Papua New Guinea's most well-known tribal gathering and cultural event.
More than 100 tribes participate in the event performing extraordinary displays of 'singsings' -
traditional songs, dances and ritual performances.
Event Details
While a remote country, the capital of Port Moresby has a number of health care providers and
pharmacies.
Travel and health insurance is recommended as treatment can be costly.
Malaria incidence in Port Moresby is extremely low and regular precautions are recommended.
Carry repellant and apply at dawn and dusk, as well when visiting grassy areas during the day.
Drinking water is safe in Port Moresby. You can also boil tap water if you prefer. In rural areas
boiled or bottled water is recommended.
Hand sanitizers and good hand washing is recommended for
visitors.
Eating out is common and very affordable compared to
Australia. Food hygiene standards are high.
