Mission Statement

The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition unites physicians and scientists for excellence in patient care, education and research, providing the best of tomorrow’s medicine, today.

Continuing Education Credit

The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 13.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits.™ Each physician should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Who Should Attend

This course is designed for gastroenterologists, surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, basic and clinical researchers and all physicians interested in pancreatic diseases. Physicians and scientists interested in translational research, cooperative studies and career development are strongly encouraged to attend. This course welcomes mid-level medical professionals, clinical and research nurses and related healthcare professionals interested in pancreatic disease research and treatment.

A block of rooms at discounted rates has been reserved for conference registrants at the Holiday Inn University Center located at 100 Lytton Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213, which is approximately two blocks from The University Club (primary meeting location). Transportation

Shuttle bus and taxi transportation may be arranged from the Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT).  Public transportation using the 28X bus is a cost-effective transportation alternative at $3.25 each way. Abstracts/Posters and Scholarships

Abstract Submission

•   Pancreas disease research abstract submissions are encouraged from all conference attendees. While novel research is preferred, abstracts submitted at previous national meetings are welcome. Abstract length is limited to 500 words.  No abstracts will be published without author agreement.  A 4x8 poster space will be reserved for all accepted abstracts. Details on page 11.

•   Abstract Deadline: All abstracts are requested by June 4, 2012. June 4 is also the deadline for travel scholarship applications and supplementary materials. Late-breaking abstracts will be accepted up to July 6, 2012. No abstract acceptance or poster space will be guaranteed after July 6.

Important Dates

June 4 Preferred abstract submission deadline. Final submission deadline for all travel scholarship applications.

June 18 Accepted abstracts and scholarship recipients announced.

July 6 Final deadline for guarantee of abstract acceptance and poster space guarantees.

Travel Scholarships

Young investigators including trainees or junior faculty within three years of appointment may apply for a PancreasFest 2012 travel scholarship. Up to 15 scholarships in amounts of up to $900 will be awarded by the Collaborative Alliance for Pancreatic Education and Research (CAPER). Awards will be made to deserving young investigators to cover travel expenses and registration fees only, and honorees will receive an award letter on or before June 25. Additionally, the Dr. Edward Purich “Best Abstract” award will be announced at PancreasFest 2012 and includes a $250 award.

Award payment will be made payable to the recipient immediately after the conference, so the recipient will be required to pay for travel expenses up front. PancreasFest 2012 registration fees will be fee-waived for all scholarship recipients. As such, registration fees will be deducted from the scholarship award amount. Since these CAPER awards are intended to support travel costs, local scholarship awardees within a 25-mile radius of Pittsburgh will receive waived registration fee awards only. Please note that PancreasFest 2012 travel scholarships may not cover all meeting expenses in full.

Scholarship Application Instructions:

1. Submit an abstract and be prepared to bring a poster to the PancreasFest 2012 meeting.

2. Submit a 100-word or less statement outlining research interests and/or career goals.

3. Attend the entire PancreasFest 2012 program, including the July 27 CAPER program.

4. Note the June 4, 2012 scholarship application deadline.

Registration for PancreasFest 2012 is due by July 6, 2012. We cannot guarantee space in the program or any program inclusions for registrations received after July 6. Registrations received or postmarked after July 6 will be charged a $50 late fee.
