ATS (Asset Tracking System) Installation Procedures
Prior to installation, SovTrack licensed installers must perform a site survey to
determine proper routing and placement of Transceivers, Power Supplies, and
Servers.
Cabling diagrams will be provided by SovTrack and must be stringently adhered to.
SovTrack recommends that all restrictions regarding the installation of all cables
such as ANSI cabling regulations and any additional restrictions warranted by the
facility’s project manager be adhered to.
This manual covers the following components:

B. Restrictions
1. On a single branch, Power Supply cabling must not exceed a total of 1500 feet
from Power Supply location to last Transceiver location.
• Should the total exceed the maximum restriction of 1500 feet but less
than 3000 feet, a Split Branch Configuration is required.

2. RS485 Data cabling must not exceed a total of 3500 feet from the Converter or
Master Transceiver to the last Transceiver location.
• Should the total exceed the maximum restriction of 3500 feet, a
RS485-RS485 repeater is required – see Figure 9.
o Refer to Appendix A for Repeater Data Sheet.
• Install Repeater in nearest Communication Closet when necessary
3. Category 5 UTP cable must not exceed a total of 330 feet.

Appendix B – Master Transceiver Split Configuration 1) Introduction: Methodology on split configuration applies only to Master Transceiver 33102-0998 or
models that contain a RS232 – RS485 Converter Module. The purpose of the split is to remedy the maximum linear foot cable restrictions between Power Supply and RS232 data communications protocol. In regards to the Power Supply, the maximum linear foot restriction is not to exceed 1500 feet. After which a spit configuration must be performed to a lot another 1500 feet for a total of 3000 feet. In addition, the maximum linear foot restriction for RS232 and RS232C data communications cable is not to exceed 10 feet. In result, a split configuration must be performed whenever the Power Supply is located greater than 10 feet from the Paltrack Server.
2) Requirements: The necessary materials needed to perform a Master Transceiver split configuration
is as follows:
a) Master Transceiver 33102-0998 or equivalent containing a RS232 – RS485 Converter Module. b) RS485 Converter Module enclosure. c) RS232 Data Communications cable. d) Power Supply and cable(s). e) Small blade slotted screwdriver. f) Large blade slotted screwdriver. g) # 1 Phillips screwdriver. h) Wire Cutters. i) Wire Strippers. j) Tape.
3) Procedure: Power Supply / Converter Module Split
a) With Large blade slotted or # 2 Phillips screwdriver, remove four lid screws on Master Transceiver and remove lid from the unit.
b) Locate and remove RS232 – RS485 Converter Module attached to side of Power Supply
enclosure. The Converter Module will be attached with double face adhesive.

enclosure. If unwarranted, this may be discarded or returned to the manufacture
e) Remove the remaining RS232 Cable from the Power Supply by carefully pulling on the cable located outside the Power Supply enclosure. This is the cable with the DB09F (9 pin female D – Sub) connector attached. If unwarranted, this may be discarded or returned to the manufacture.
f) Wrap the DB25F (25 pin female D – Sub) connector located inside the Power Supply enclosure
with electrical tape. Do not attempt to remove or cut the cable.
g) Install and secure Power Supply enclosure lid.
h) Power Supply is ready for installation.
i) Reference Figure B1
Paltrack RTLS
STD-0046-012303R2 21
4) Procedure: RS485 Converter Module assembly.
a) With a # 1 Phillips screwdriver, locate and remove four enclosure screws. b) If installed, push the RS232 cable through the strain relief to open enclosure.
c) Attach RS232 – RS485 Converter to each corresponding D – Sub connectors located inside the
Converter Module enclosure.
d) Secure D – Sub connectors to the Converter with nylon wire ties.
e) Through two large holes located on the enclosure PC Board, secure the Converter to PC Board with a nylon wire tie.
f) If not installed, feed RS232 Data Cable through open end of strain relief into the Converter
enclosure.
g) With wire strippers and small blade slotted screwdriver, strip open end of RS232 cable and install cable in following configuration:
i) Red wire to “TX” location. ii) Black wire to “RX” location.
iii) Green wire to “GND” location.
h) Feed RS485 Data Cable through open end of strain relief into the Converter enclosure. i) With wire strippers and small blade slotted screwdriver, strip open end of RS485 cable and install
cable in following configuration:
i) White / Red (user defined) to “A”.
ii) Blue / Black (user defined) to “B”.
iii) Cable Shield to “CG”.
j) It is installer discretion to secure RS232 and/or RS485 cables with cable clamps inside Converter enclosure.
k) Inspect and correct any loose, frayed or exposed wire or shielding. l) Assemble two haves of Converter enclosure and secure with same four screws.
m) Pull loose slack tighten strain relief.
n) Repeat entire process as needed.
o) Reference Figures B2 and B3
Paltrack RTLS
STD-0046-012303R2 22
5) Procedure: RS485 Converter Module installation.
a) Organize 485 Converter Module(s) within six feet from Paltrack Server multiple serial port. b) With Power Cable(s) provided, cascade power connections as needed.
i) RS485 Converters may be individually powered. ii) Can cascade up to eight RS485 Converters on a single Power Supply.
c) Install RS232 connections to Paltrack multiple serial port.
d) Wrap remaining RS232 cabling in an organized fashion and secure with wire tie(s).
e) Plug +24 Vdc Power Pack into nearest AC outlet.
f) Plug Power Pack into first cascaded Converter.
g) All power indicators will be activated.
