A Message from Auburn Memorial Hospital“Palpitations 2010: Dr. Gallstone Scores a

Touchdown” is the latest in a longstanding tradition of Auburn Memorial Hospital theatricalreviews, the first of which was produced by theAMH Auxiliary in the early 1980s. This year’sshow is produced jointly by the Auxiliary andAuburn Hospital System Foundation, Inc. The goal is to raise $20,000 in support of theAMH Maternity Initiative, for the purchase ofHydrotherapy in the soon-to-be-renovated AMH Maternity unit. This project includes jetted tubs in each of the 4 birthing rooms.Hydrotherapy provides increased relaxation andcomfort to women in labor; it also reduces theamount of pain medication needed, making thebirth process safer for babies.

What’s special about Palpitations? In additionto being a fundraiser, it is a community outreach event that involves people fromthroughout AMH’s service area. The productionof the show represents the dedicated efforts of over100 volunteers, and our audiences, sponsors, andadvertisers bring the total number of those whocontribute to over 2,500!

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, Administration, and Medical Staff, we extend our sincere thanks and appreciationto the many individuals and businesses who have contributed to this event. CELEBRATING OUR 100TH ANNIVERSARY!

Auburn Memorial Hospital has officially announced the launch of a major new initiative in the place where it all begins – our Maternity Unit. We have embarked on a $2.4 million construction/renovation initiative for our Labor and Delivery area. This initiative will provide asafe, comfortable and efficient place for mothers and babies, and provide the necessary state-of-the-art facilities to assist our exceptional maternity staff in providing the best possible care.

In the past two years we have greatly strengthened our Maternity care. Many mothers are nowasking for some changes to the facility, and we are listening. The Maternity Unit has been largelyuntouched since 1958, with the exception of minor improvements and partial renovations. Themost recent upgrades occurred in 1998 when the Birthing Center was created. ThreeLabor/Delivery rooms, a waiting area, and classroom/support spaces were also added at that time.

The New York State Department of Health recently recognized the imperative for the provision of maternity services in Cayuga County. It isour obligation to renovate the unit to meet the emergingneeds of the women and families who depend on theseservices.

Our belief is that everyone deserves premium care. Inrecent months there has been a whole new infusion of talent and credentialing into the maternity area. There arenow three certified OB/GYN physicians, three nurse midwives, and 18 RNs (registered nurses) with a combined100+ years of experience.

Marge Tracy, a certified nurse midwife and chairpersonof the maternity unit initiative, states, “What women want is different now than it was years ago – they just have different expectations. We want Auburn Memorial Hospital to be the hospital of choice for women in our community.”

The renovation area is approximately 6,600 square feet and will feature:• Four birthing rooms, each with flat screen television, private bath and jetted tub• Seven Post-Partum Rooms, each with flat screen television and private bath• Two welcoming and comfortable Reception and Waiting Areas for families and visitors• An exam room• A Labor-Delivery Recovery Room• A holding nursery• A high-risk isolation nursery• Clinical support areas to accommodate patients and administrative support functions, increasing staff efficiency

In the past two years we have greatly strengthened our Maternity care. Many mothers are nowasking for some changes to the facility, and we are listening. The Maternity Unit has been largelyuntouched since 1958, with the exception of minor improvements and partial renovations. Themost recent upgrades occurred in 1998 when the Birthing Center was created. ThreeLabor/Delivery rooms, a waiting area, and classroom/support spaces were also added at that time.

The New York State Department of Health recently recognized the imperative for the provision of maternity services in Cayuga County. It isour obligation to renovate the unit to meet the emergingneeds of the women and families who depend on theseservices.

Our belief is that everyone deserves premium care. Inrecent months there has been a whole new infusion of talent and credentialing into the maternity area. There arenow three certified OB/GYN physicians, three nurse midwives, and 18 RNs (registered nurses) with a combined100+ years of experience.

Marge Tracy, a certified nurse midwife and chairpersonof the maternity unit initiative, states, “What women want is different now than it was years ago – they just have different expectations. We want Auburn Memorial Hospital to be the hospital of choice for women in our community.”

The renovation area is approximately 6,600 square feet and will feature:• Four birthing rooms, each with flat screen television, private bath and jetted tub• Seven Post-Partum Rooms, each with flat screen television and private bath• Two welcoming and comfortable Reception and Waiting Areas for families and visitors• An exam room• A Labor-Delivery Recovery Room• A holding nursery• A high-risk isolation nursery• Clinical support areas to accommodate patients and administrative support functions, increasing staff efficiency

A Message from Auburn Memorial Hospital“Palpitations 2010: Dr. Gallstone Scores a

Touchdown” is the latest in a longstanding tradition of Auburn Memorial Hospital theatricalreviews, the first of which was produced by theAMH Auxiliary in the early 1980s. This year’sshow is produced jointly by the Auxiliary andAuburn Hospital System Foundation, Inc. The goal is to raise $20,000 in support of theAMH Maternity Initiative, for the purchase ofHydrotherapy in the soon-to-be-renovated AMH Maternity unit. This project includes jetted tubs in each of the 4 birthing rooms.Hydrotherapy provides increased relaxation andcomfort to women in labor; it also reduces theamount of pain medication needed, making thebirth process safer for babies.

What’s special about Palpitations? In additionto being a fundraiser, it is a community outreach event that involves people fromthroughout AMH’s service area. The productionof the show represents the dedicated efforts of over100 volunteers, and our audiences, sponsors, andadvertisers bring the total number of those whocontribute to over 2,500!
