The Practice of Prayer An elective Sunday school series for Lent (@10:30am in the Gathering Place—1st floor of education wing)

Week 6: March 29, 2015 (Palm Sunday) Theme: Making Crosses Leader: Wendy Garrison What to expect: Loosely based on the book by Ellen Mor-ris Prewitt, we’ll talk about how “the practice of making crosses offers a way of prayer where understanding comes from doing.” To make a cross is to pray in a new way, but it’s not as simple as old-fashioned petitionary prayer; making crosses is a way for God to pray through you.”

Coming Next week…

Week 7: April 5, 2015 (Easter Sunday) Theme: Praying with the Body Leader: Teresa Keller What to expect: Loosely based on the book by William Tenny-Brittian, Prayer for People Who Can’t Sit Still. The book was written for those who feel a need to get connected with God in prayer, but who either can’t, or are too busy, to sit still long enough to do it. In this session, you will learn about kinesthetic prayer – prayer that uses more than just your mouth or your mind and, instead, uses your fingers, hands, feet, and sometimes even your whole body. If pray-ers are going to be effective, we need to spend time with our Lord, but that time together doesn’t have to be sit-still time. Come learn how to pray in movement with your body.

For more info. contact Rachel Witkovsky at [email protected]

A new edition of the PCOB Cookbook: Bountiful Harvest is being published as a fundraiser for the Young Adults. The last edition was published in 2003. Do you have a favorite recipe you’d like to share for the cookbook? Do you know someone who makes that perfect dish and you've always wanted the recipe? Recipes are due by May 1st - so that we’ll have the books by Christmas! Also, if you have contributed to a past cookbook, would you be willing to let us run your recipe(s) again? Do you have any changes, addi-tions, or notes to update? Order forms are coming soon! Contact Rachel Witkovsky with recipes, questions, etc. Youth Activities: Youth Club: Tuesday afternoons in March & April. Sr. High After Hours: Wednesday, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Youth Sunday: May 10 Young Adult Activities: Food & Faith: Thursday, April 30, 6:30 p.m. Conference: May 22-24 We are still in need of first aid items, towels and washcloths for our Disaster Relief shelter. If you took one of the slips, please bring your item(s) in soon and place them on the cot in the Nar-thex. Thanks to those who have already donated! There is still time to sign up for the "50 Days of Walking - A Cele-bration of Life" program. We begin tracking our mileage on April 6, so come down to the Fellowship Hall and sign up! And remember - you don't have to walk...20 minutes of ANY moder-ately paced activity counts as one mile. Help us get to the West Coast! Can we make it?? The flowers on the altar are placed by Nancy Hartman in honor of Ed Hartman who passed away a year ago on March 24th. Serving Next Sunday: Ushers - George Bell, Don Kensinger, Betha-ny Clark; Child Care - Brenda Heisey & Tara Garber.

You Are Invited to the Table! As a humble and gracious host, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and welcomed each one to the Passover table that last night. The Love Feast is our remem-brance of this night, a special time when we come together in Christian community to wash each other’s feet or hands, eat a simple meal in fellowship and celebrate communion. Please join your church family on Thursday, April 2, at 7:00 p.m. in the Fel-lowship Hall as we celebrate this special occasion. Everyone is invited to bring flowers on Easter morning to deco-rate the Living Cross. However, flowers are not to be put on the cross until the singing of the first hymn. Scout’s Spaghetti Dinner is on Saturday, April 11, from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall. The meal will include salad with dressing, spaghetti with meatballs, dessert, and beverage. We ask you to bring your own containers for take outs. For tick-ets, see Devin Gearhart or Dave Wagner. Tickets will be also be available at the door. We extend sympathy to the family of Dot Herr who passed away on March 25. Visitation will be at the church on Sunday, March 29 from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. and again on Monday, March 30 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. The service will begin at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will be served immediately after the service. We celebrate today the baptisms of Karen Meads and Vera Freed. Karen has been a part of our congregation since birth. Today she gives an outward expression to a faith that nur-tured and guided her. Karen is employed by Hershey Foods and lives in Elizabethtown with her husband Terry. Vera is a resident at Lebanon Valley Brethren Home. She has been deeply touched by the care the Brethren show to one another during times of joy and sorrow, and she wishes, through baptism, to become part of this community of faith.
