PALMER PARTICULARS… Dear Friends and Family, We are very sorry for such a long period of silence (at least for some of you) on our “comings and goings” in life and ministry. To be honest: this has been a very unsettling time for us as we deal with the loss of our work visa for Indonesia. There is much we might share about the physical, emotional, and spiritual toll on us as we deal with this unexpected change of course in our lives. Author Warren Wiersbe observed: “… discouragement is one of the occupational hazards of the ministry.” To be sure: our hearts are still very much focused on how we might be a blessing to the Taliabo church as it presses toward greater functionality and maturity as a New Testament-patterned church. In fact, Kyla and I will be travelling to Indonesia August-September to not only re-connect with our ministry commitments there, but also explore the possibility of returning to Indonesia sometime in the future, perhaps as early as next year . We will be in discussion with field leadership about that on this trip as we try to get a better understanding of the social & political issues impacting us. In the meanwhile, New Tribes Mission has asked Darryl to be part of their USA Mobilization Team…in this ministry, Darryl will be representing NTM to churches, Christian schools, and universities in the mid-Atlantic USA region. In this capacity, Darryl will have a large audience to challenge in reaching tribes for Christ. Meanwhile Kyla will continue as the Indonesian field literacy consultant and her agenda is packed for this upcoming trip. She will interface with several missionary teams in West Kalimantan (Borneo) on primer development. [By the way: we’ll include our itinerary at the end of this update.]

PALMER PARTICULARS…

Dear Friends and Family,

We are very sorry for such a long period of silence (at least for some of you) on our “comings and goings” in life and ministry. In fact, Kyla and I will be travelling to Indonesia August-September to not only re-connect with our ministry commitments there, but also explore the possibility of returning to Indonesia sometime in the future, perhaps as early as next year.

Christoph and daughter Staci flew Kyla “across the pond” for the birth of their third child in England. Ruben Petrus was named in honor of the Taliabo evangelist who died 2 years ago in a boat accident.

Sam and our daughter Kari and little Greyson are staying with us this summer at the church’s mission home. They return to NTM’s Missouri training center (MTC) in August for their last year of studies. Shawn will be heading to Missouri also to study web design with his cousins who have a business there. Ahoy! Shiver me timbers! A one-eyed intruder of the Blackbeard clan slipped into our photo op. Scally-wag!

Darryl (left photo) visited Chad in May. Last week Kyla, Kari, and baby Greyson went to see him. There is a Prison Scholarship Fund that channels tax-deductible gifts to incarcerated Christians. We can give the proper contact information to anyone who might be interested in Chad’s education. . . just write us.

How can you pray for us?

1- Safe travel: Not only do we have the 29 hour “hop” to Indonesia, there will

also be several domestic travel challenges for both of us: via helicopter, small aircraft, and yes…those infamous boat trips (for Darryl). We will be logging thousands of miles on this trip..

2- Meetings with NTM and YMMP (Indonesian) leadership as we try to ascertain options for continuing ministry to the Taliabo, especially as to completing the translation project for this people group.

3- A work visa to return to Indonesia

4- Darryl’s management of health issues. . .

5- Financially: Praise the Lord…we have most of our travel costs already met for this trip to Indonesia. We then found it necessary to extend our ministry time in Indonesia and that has left us with about $400 in penalty change fees. Also, we have extra costs with Darryl’s trip to the tribe, and printing durable Bible lesson materials for the tribal church leaders. That leaves us with a shortfall of about $900. On another front, we again praise the Lord as over 2/3 of the purchase price of our 2004 Ford Taurus has been donated. (see below) Our home church has been coordinating fund raisers for this! We are blessed!

Spotlight on Taliabo:

Many of your remember Taliabo evangelist Petrus (lower left, with list of northern tribesmen who asked to

hear the Gospel). Petrus had a vision for reaching his fellow tribesmen on the northern coast with the Gospel, before a collision of boats ended his life 2 years ago. Two of the Taliabo churches have been coordinating a team effort to reach this group with the Gospel. Meli Bakahosu (with family, bottom

right) has been spearheading this effort. Pray for Meli and other Taliabo evangelists who are bringing the message of God’s salvation to these people, who continue to be pressured to follow Islam.

Thanks for your continued support by prayer and gifts that enable us to serve the Lord. We’ll write an update in early October when we return from Indonesia. By then we’ll know better the visa issue.
