Palin Parent Child Interaction Therapy is an evidence-based therapy approach for children up to seven years old who stutter. This presentation will equip therapists to understand early childhood stuttering and it’s causal and influencing factors, providing a framework for this comprehensive approach. The interactive workshop will then give an overview of the assessment of early stuttering and how to devise an individually-tailored therapy program for the child and parents. The treatment will be described and demonstrated using video examples. This will include skills for working with parents on interaction styles and strategies to implement in the family to enhance a child’s fluency and communication confidence. Day ONE Session 1: Describe the research findings related to the causes of childhood stuttering. •Session 2: Describe Palin PCI in general terms, how it differs from other approaches and the evidence base. Day TWO •Session 3: Describe the Palin Model and the assessment of early stuttering. •Session 4: Describe how to work on parent child interaction using video recordings to facilitate fluency and confident communi- cation. •Session 5: Describe how to work on family strategies in the home setting. •Session 6: Describe how to work directly with the child on strategies to enhance fluency and confident communication. After this workshop, participants will be able to: Elaine Kelman, MSc, CertMRCSLT, HCPC, Cert CBT Elaine Kelman is a consultant speech and language therapist and the head of the Michael Palin Centre for Stammering in London. She has contributed to the development of various stuttering therapy programs, particularly of preschool and school-aged children, and has published and presented a number of papers, chapters and books. She participates in the Centre’s international training and research program. Elaine is past President of the International Fluency Associa- tion, Chair of the European Fluency Specialists Board and an ASHA affiliate. She is salaried and has been a full-time employee of the Michael Palin Centre since 1979 and this is a continuing relationship.
