Welcome to the 2020 D211 Career Expo. We hope that the information you obtain this evening will be helpful in your college major and career planning.
The professionals listed on the following pages represent a variety of careers. Connecting careers with curriculum pathways is a tool for you as you plan your future. The professionals are prepared to respond to questions about their chosen career and to offer advice on the required training and education required to pursue this field. As you speak to the professionals this evening, please join us in thanking them for volunteering to share their expertise and time with us.
Once you have had the chance to learn about various careers, you may have further questions. Please feel free to contact your high school’s career advisor for additional information.

How to Succeed at the D211 Career Expo
The companies at the expo are organized by career cluster. Be sure to explore all clusters to see the many potential career options. For example, STEM careers will be found across many clusters.
The D211 Career Expo is an opportunity for you to meet with professionals and learn about their careers. It is your chance to make connections and network with companies. Below are some tips to help you make the most of this experience.
• Dress to impress. • Approach the professionals confidently with good eye contact and smile. • Shake hands with a firm hand shake. • Introduce yourself using your full name, year in school and your high school. • Let the professional know why you are there – see sample questions below. • Speak clearly and loud enough for them to hear you as the room will be crowded. • Phones should be silenced and put away. • Do not chew gum. • Be a good listener. • Be prepared to ask a few questions – see sample questions below. • Be respectful of the time you spend at a table. If there is a long line, ask 1-2 questions
and circle back to the table later. • Thank the professional for speaking with you. Briefly, describe something you found
helpful or interesting. • If the company is offering internships and you are interested, offer them a copy of your
resume. • Talk to everyone in the aisle to discover new careers.

Sample Questions to Ask Professionals
• Can you tell me what your company does and the key components of your job? • How did you get interested in this profession? • What steps did you take to get to the job you have today? • What does your typical day look like? • What are some challenges you face in your role? • What are the different types of jobs found in your career area? • What does the job market look like in the future for employment in your profession? • What experiences would be helpful for a high school student to have to understand the
field better? • What coursework would be helpful in preparing for this field? • If you could go back to high school, what would you have done differently that may have
been of benefit to you today?
