Burial will be in St. Mary of Mer- cy Calvary Cemetery in Alexan- dria. Victor Andrew Fuhrman was born on Sept. 23, 1923, to Joseph and Amelia (Loos) Fuhrman in Parkston. He entered the United States Army in 1945, served in the Asiatic-Pacific eatre, and was honorably discharged. Victor married Marie Kane in Platte on April 19, 1949. ey lived on the family farm west of Parkston until March 1959, when they moved to a farm south of Alexandria and lived there until February 1981. ey then moved to a farm closer to Emery. Victor cared for Marie for many years before she passed away in 2007. He then moved to Huron to be closer to family. He entered Prairie View Healthcare Community in December 2017. Victor was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the American Legion. He was able to visit Washington, D.C., on the Honor Flight to see the World War II Memorial. Aſter retirement from farming, Victor began to create farm ma- chinery out of cardboard, earn- ing him a front-page story in the local paper. Victor is survived by his son, David (Diane) Fuhrman, of Huron; two grandsons; five great-grandchildren; and son-in- law, Dale Stern; as well as many nieces and nephews. Melvin “Mel” Tuffs, 75, of Mt. Vernon, died Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Avera McK- ennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Funeral services were Mon- day, June 4, at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Visitation was Sunday, June 3, at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Burial was in the Mount Vernon Cemetery. Melvin Floyd Tuffs, son of Fred and Josephine (Larson) Tuffs, was born on Feb. 3, 1943, in Olivet. He moved to Milltown and then to Woon- socket in 1969. Melvin was currently living in Mt. Ver- non. He was employed as a mechanic and musician for over 40 years. Melvin was united in mar- riage with Gloria Tollefson on May 27, 1989, in Mt. Vernon. He loved watching and playing golf, motorcycles, cars, his family and playing in the band. Melvin also en- joyed toys, tractors, hunting and was a gun enthusiast. His greatest pleasure was farming, being outdoors, visiting with family and friends, and his love of animals. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Tuffs of Mt. He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaugh- ter, Stephani Lyman; a sister, Pat Sheppard; a sister-in-law, Martha Hanson; and broth- ers-in-law, Garry Tollefson, Randy Tollefson and Jim Han- son. Aleck L. Larson, 83, of Woon- socket, died April 8, 2018, at Prairie View Healthcare Com- munity in Woonsocket. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 9 at the Woonsocket Community Cen- ter at 2 p.m. with Rev. Scott Spiehs and Rev. Richard Wee- man officiating. Honorary rites will be held by Woonsocket American Legion Post 29. In- urnment will be in Silver Creek Cemetery, rural Woonsocket. Aleck Leonard Larson was born on a farm in Jackson Township, Woonsocket, to Ed- ward and Frederica (Kruse) Larson on Aug. 30, 1934. He at- tended rural McDonald School and later Woonsocket Public School. Aleck married Edwina Pierce on March 5, 1955, in Sioux Falls. Aleck was draſted into the army in 1960 for one and one-half years. He was a carpenter who remodeled houses and built one of his homes. He was a janitor for the Huron and Woonsock- et schools, Lewis Drug, and many years at the courthouse in Woonsocket. He also drove school bus. Aleck loved to do magic tricks ALECK L. He was an avid gardener and loved doing puzzles. Aleck and Edwina also had several foster children. He was a mem- ber of the Woonsocket Ameri- can Legion Post 29. Aleck is survived by his daughters, Laurie (Tom) Klich of Woonsocket, and Kathie Hib- bard of Pierre; five grandchil- dren; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mandy Schulz of Woonsocket, and Alma (Carl) Fielder of Union, Neb.; and a special friend, Fran Cangelosi. June sobriety checkpoint schedule released PIERRE – With summer underway, the South Dakota Department of Public Safety continues its efforts to discour- age people from drinking and then driving by holding sobriety checkpoints statewide during the month of June. ere are 35 checkpoints scheduled in 24 different coun- ties during June. e check- points are funded by the South Dakota Office of Highway Safety and conducted by the South Da- kota Highway Patrol. Victor Fuhrman, 94, of Woon-socket, formerly of Emery, passed away June 3, 2018, at Prai-rie View Healthcare Community in Woonsocket.
