with MIPAS version 4.53 (before Nov. 13)
around 20 km: MIPAS vmr too low (up to 0.8 ppmv)
around 30 km: MIPAS vmr too large (up to 0.8 ppmv)
MIPAS columns (integr. prof. >16 km): ~ 10% too large
altitude assignment:
alt. shift of ~1.5 km
MIPAS VMR (p) agrees better than VMR (H)

ConclusionComparisons with MIPAS 4.53 (data from Oct. 24 onwards)
using g.b. MWR, LIDAR, FTIR, and O3 sondes
before Nov. 13:
altitude: 1 - 2 km
< 20 km: MIPAS vmr too low >25 km: MIPAS vmr too large
after Nov. 13:
O3 sondes Uccle & MWR Payerne (110 comparisons !) :
height assignment is reasonable
much better agreement
Quality of MIPAS O3 profiles is quite promising

OutlookA quantitative validation has to be perfomed
Data from MIPAS observations before Oct. 24 are needed
More than 1000 files with O3 profile data on CAL/VAL data base
Topics to be addressed:
• day / night differences
• latitudinal dependence
• coincidence criteria: influence of different time and geolocation
• other MIPAS products (species)
