KWGA Playday Guidelines
Welcome to the 2020 KWGA Golf Season! As we begin the new season, please
remember these guidelines for each play day. If you are a new member, welcome
and please ask questions of any member!
Online Sign Up:
Your sign up for each week is through the link on the KWGA website:
kwga.kingwoodgolf.online. For mobile users, you can put this link on your
smartphone too. There will be an opportunity to sign up for more than one play
day. You will receive a confirmation email after you sign up (please retain this email
so you know you signed up!). The Online Sign Up is closed on Sunday at midnight
for Tuesday’s game. So look at the weather, check your calendar, and sign up by
Sunday midnight! Pairings will be available at check-in on Tuesday mornings.
Monday Adds or Cancels after Online Sign Up:
If you need to cancel or decide to play after the Sunday midnight deadline, 18 holers
please call or text Kathy Deitz at 713.703.8151. 9 holers call or text Dorothy
Morrison at 713.598.0615. When you contact us, please let us know your first and
last name. You will know that we received it because we will respond with a short
reply. Those wishing to play after the Sunday midnight deadline will be worked into
the playing field.
Tuesday Adds or Cancels:
If you decide you want to play or to cancel on a Tuesday morning, PLEASE Call the
Pro Shop at 281-348-2217. If the Pro Shop fails to answer, please call Kathy Deitz
for 18 Holers at 713.703.8151 or Dorothy Morrison at 713.598.0615 so that we can
start working on any cancels and adds. When you call, please be clear to the pro
shop that you are with the KWGA 18 Holers or 9 Holers and that you are cancelling
and that they understand your name. It is very difficult for the other players (and us)
if you don’t show up and don’t call or show up without calling! There is someone at
the Pro Shop by 6:30 a.m. We work closely with Tim and Lisa in the Pro Shop.
Please help us create the best pairings possible!
Weather Cancellations:
We will play unless the course is closed or there is lightning. If you do not want to
play, call the Pro Shop in the morning. Please watch your email for announcements.

GENERAL INFORMATION
KWGA yearly dues of $55.00 are billed directly by the Kingwood Country Club. The
billing date will be December 31, due on January 31. No dues will be refunded after
the due date. Any member who resigns and wishes to rejoin will pay the $55.00
yearly fee. Anyone who joins on or after October 1 will pay $20.00. In addition, a
fee will be billed for maintaining handicaps.
The Association plays according to the rules of the USGA and the Kingwood Country
Club local rules. The Membership Chair will call each new member and explain the
playday procedures as needed.
HANDICAP PROCEDURES
Handicap Information: Second Vice-President
Handicaps are computed according to the uniform system as recommended by the
USGA.
18-Hole Handicap Limit 40
9-Hole Handicap Limit 25
Interclub Handicap Limit (18-hole) 36
HANDICAP INDEX
In order to be eligible for tournaments, Members must have an Established
Handicap Index. All major tournaments are flighted in equal numbers by handicap
index.
New members of the KWGA without an established handicap will establish a
Handicap Index as follows:
KWGA Temporary Handicap Index: five 18-Hole or five 9-Hole scores may be
turned in to the Pro Shop for computation of a Temporary Handicap Index. Your
scorecard should include the following: your name, your membership number, date,
your signature as attester, and the signature of an adult as scorer. After establishing
a temporary handicap, you are eligible for playday awards.
KWGA Established Index: based on ten 18-hole or ten 9-hole scores and computed
on the 5 lowest rounds of the 10 scores. Only those playday scores recorded after
an Established Index has been created will count toward year-end awards.
If you are new to KWGA and have a handicap Index from another club, please
provide the Pro Shop with the GHIN Number. If not, provide your last 20 scores and
the course and slope ratings for each score.
Dual Handicap Index: If you maintain a handicap at more than one course, you are
responsible for seeing that your scores are input into GHIN at all courses.
TEE TIME ON PLAYDAYS
Shotgun starts will be on all Tuesdays except for KWGA Member Guest, 2nd day of
Eclectic Tournament and Championship Tournament and any other unusual
circumstances. Shotgun starts are at 9:30 a.m. January and February, 9:00 a.m.
March through May, 8:30 a.m. June through August and 9:00 a.m. September
through December. All players must check in at the Check-In table at least 20
minutes before tee time and be at the tee box before tee time.
PLAYDAY CHECK-IN PROCEDURE:
The Check-in table will be open at least by 8 a.m. before tee time. Cart assignments
will be designated with player’s names on the carts. Scorecards, if made up, and
special rule sheets, if needed, will be given out at the check-in (registration) table. A
player may enter the Closest-to-the-pin and/or Chip-in (18 holers) contest at the
Check-in Table. THE CHECK-IN TABLE WILL BE CLOSED 20 MINUTES BEFORE
SHOTGUN TIME. The Playday Chair will assess a two-stroke penalty on the first
hole if you have not checked in before the Check-in Table closes.
SCORECARD PROCEDURES:
In the event that printed score cards are not provided, KWGA requests that the
competitor indicate only: Legible Name, Member Number, each hole score, each
hole putts, total gross score, handicap (for the course), and total net score, total
putts, flight number and the event score. Circle (or otherwise clearly identify) birdies
and indicate if breaking 80, 90 or 100 (50 for 9-Holers) for the first time. The
Competitor must sign (attest) and date scorecard after the scorer, a fellow
competitor has signed your card. After play, turn in completed scorecard for the
stipulated round as well as x’d out or withdrawn scorecards to Playday Chair or
designated spot after play. All playday scorecards must be turned in. Note: Chip-ins
(18 holers) are noted and attested on a list at the Check-In Table in the locker room
immediately following play.
DISCONTINUANCE OF PLAY, RESUMPTION OF PLAY, AND CANCELLATION
OF PLAY PROCEDURES AS IT APPLIES TO KWGA PLAYDAYS:
Decisions about Suspension, Resumption and Cancellation of Play will be made by
and communicated by the KWGA Committee.
The Committee will be the First Vice President & Playday Chairman, Fourth Vice
President & 9 Hole Chairman and the Head Pro(s) in charge.
An uncancelled Playday and/or Tournament will be deemed a valid playday if 8 or
more players for 18 Holers play a stipulated round that day on the same designated
course.
Players must turn in completed scorecards to the Playday Chairman or 9 Hole
Chairman or designated spot.
When play is suspended, usually due to weather, competitors are to return to the
clubhouse when it is safe to do so, report to the committee and await a decision by
the Committee as to resume play or if play is cancelled. Players choosing not to
continue play must turn in their scorecards.
A stipulated round (18 holes or 9 holes) must be played for a player to receive
KWGA course credit, ringer scores, and event winnings. Only USGA handicap
credit can be tabulated if only 13 or more holes (18 Holers) or only 7 or more holes
(9 Holers) are completed. In this circumstance, scorecards are to be turned in to the
Playday Chairman or 9 Hole Chairman or designated spot and the Playday
Chairman will see that the cards are input for handicap credit.
There is no hard-and-fast rule as to when to cancel a round. The proper action
depends on the circumstances in each case and must be left to the judgment of the
Committee.
The KWGA Committee will determine when play is cancelled.
If it is likely a playday is cancelled prior to play members may call the Pro Shop, or
the 1st or 4th Vice President to validate. They may also check their email for a
message before coming to the Check-in table.
However, if they find no other notice that play is cancelled they should follow normal
Check- in procedures. If play is suspended and then cancelled before everyone has
completed a stipulated round, then the playday is cancelled and no KWGA course
credit, ringers or event winnings will be awarded.
9 Hole Playday requirements are as follows:
Must have a minimum of 4 players for money prize
Must have a minimum of 2 players for ringers
If there are 5 or more players can pay out winner for low putts. If there are 8 or more
players can pay 2 places and low putts
SATURDAY PLAYDAY
To qualify for a pay-off of a gift certificate, there must be a minimum of four (4)
eligible players. To qualify for year-end awards, there must be two (2) eligible
players.
RINGERS
The Ringer Chair will post scores in the ringer file. The Ringer Chair keeps a record
of the best score you have on each hole you play for the year. She also tracks all
birdies. Birdies should be circled or otherwise clearly marked on your scorecard.
RULES
The USGA rules govern all play. In addition, local committee rules may apply. A
current rules book should be obtained at your own expense unless it is provided at
the annual rules clinic. Rules sheets will be distributed for all major tournaments. If
a question arises while playing, play a second ball and discuss it with the Head Pro
and the Rules Committee after play. The Head Pro and Rules Committee will make
a decision based upon this request.
SPECIAL RULES
18th HOLE OF ISLAND COURSE (18 and 9 Holers) - On a playday, but NOT in
major or minor tournaments, you may pick up at any time BEFORE YOUR BALL IS
ON THE GREEN and mark your score with a 12 and 4 putts. You may use the
special “DROP ZONE” to the right of the bridge, if in attempting to land on the 18th
green, YOUR BALL HAS HIT LAND AND DROPPED BACK INTO THE WATER OR
IF YOU HAVE FLOWN THE GREEN AND LANDED IN THE WATER ON THE
OTHER SIDE. This does not include shots hitting the bulkhead and dropping in the
water, as the bulkhead is part of the hazard. A one-stroke penalty must be taken if
you use the drop zone.
10th HOLE OF THE MARSH COURSE (18 and 9 Holers) - On playday, but not in
tournaments, you may hit a provisional ball if you cannot tell if your ball is in the
hazard.
10th HOLE OF THE MARSH COURSE (9 Holers Only) On a playday, but NOT in
tournaments, you must hit TWO balls in the marsh before it can be walked over, plus
take an additional penalty stroke. Example: if you were in the marsh on 2, out on 3,
in on 4, out on 5, walking over on 6, you would be hitting 7 (dropping within 2 club
lengths from the marsh). The player would be eligible to be a winner for that
playday.
9 Holers only - On playdays, but NOT in tournaments, a 9 Hole player has the
OPTION to pick up her ball at anytime on any hole and mark her score with a 12,
taking 4 putts for that hole. The round will count for year-end course requirements,
putts and ringers. If done on Island 18 or Marsh 10 the player is eligible to be a
winner for that playday. On any hole other than Island 18 or Marsh 10 the player is
not eligible to be a winner for that playday.
KWGA playday procedures will apply unless otherwise specified.
PRIZES
Weekly winners are posted on the KWGA Website. Event and Low Putts winners
receive $4 Pro Shop credit. One award is given for every 4 players on playdays .
Prizes for Major Tournaments are awarded at the end of the tournament.
PLAYDAY NOTE (18 Holers): You may pick up your ball at any time on a
PLAYDAY, marking your scorecard for that hole with an “X”. At that time, you are
disqualified from the event and your score will not count toward Ringers or Year End
Awards. Please turn your card in for handicap posting
CLOSEST TO THE PIN
The weekly sign-up sheet is on the check-in table in the Ladies Locker Room. Enter
by signing the CLOSEST TO THE PIN SHEET appropriate to your handicap and
putting 50 cents in the respective CLOSEST TO THE PIN CAN. If playday is
canceled or the “closest to the pin winner” withdraws, the pot will be carried over to
the following week. Those already in the pot do not pay 50 cents the following week.
Guests are not allowed to participate.
CHIP-IN POT (18 hole only)
Enter by signing the CHIP-IN SHEET and putting 50 cents in the CHIP-IN CAN at
the registration table on playdays. A CHIP-IN is any shot holed out from off the
putting green. When a participant chips in, she must sign the CHIP-IN SHEET with
one attesting signature from her group. The sheet will be posted on the bulletin
board in the ladies locker room. It will be removed by the following day and the
winnings distributed at the next playday. Each person entered will get an equal
share of the pot for each CHIP-IN. For example, if a person chips in twice, she will
get two equal shares of the pot with the other winners.
The pot will carry over from week to week until a CHIP-IN occurs. When a carryover
pot is broken by a CHIP-IN, the person(s) chipping in will share as above, whether
she entered on the carryover weeks or just that day. Guests are not allowed to
participate.
Putts pot (18 Hole Only)
The weekly sign-up sheet is on the check-in table in the Ladies Locker Room at
check-in.. Enter by signing the PUTTS Sign-Up Sheet appropriate to your handicap
and putting 50 cents in the respective PUTTS CAN. If playday is canceled or the
“Putts winner” withdraws, the pot will be carried over to the following week. Those
already in the pot do not pay 50 cents the following week. Guests are not allowed to
participate.
HOLE-IN-ONE CLUB
The KWGA has its own Hole-in-One Club for KWGA members only. To join, pay the
Ways & Means Chair $5 at any time before having a Hole-In-One. The money will
be kept in the Treasury from the first Tuesday playday in January until the first
Monday before the first Tuesday playday the following year. It will then be divided
equally by the number of Hole-in-One Club participants who have made a hole-in-
one in this time period and are members of the Hole-in-One Club prior to their hole-
in-one. The money will be disbursed accordingly at the January General Meeting.
The Hole-in-One must be made at Kingwood Country Club courses only (Marsh,
Island, Lake, or Forest).
HOLE-IN-ONE TROPHIES
A trophy is awarded to each member who has a hole-in-one any day during the year,
attested to by an adult. Recognition will be made at the first General Meeting after
Hole-in-One is made. Hole-in-one must be made on Kingwood Country Club
courses only (Marsh, Island, Lake, or Forest).
BREAK PINS
A pin is awarded to each 18 HOLE member who, for the first time, breaks 100, 90,
80, or 70; or 9 HOLE member who breaks 50 on playday, or in any KWGA
Tournament.
CADDIES Caddies and personal instructors are not allowed on playdays or KWGA
events.
PLAYDAY GAME DESCRIPTIONS
1/4 of the field will be winners (unless otherwise stated). Prizes will be awarded on
Net score.
Always record gross score, net score and putts - Plus the following:
ACE OF ACES
A flighted Low Gross and Low Net event. Overall low gross and low net winners
(and ties) will advance to the Ace of Aces Playoff in November. In addition to the
overall winners, prizes will be awarded to Low Gross, Low Net and Low Putts within
each flight. (A player may win the overall low gross or low net only once during the
year).
ACES WILD
Subtract 1 stroke for each one (or less) putt hole, from net score. Use full handicap.
BEAT THE PRO
A pro will play one hole with each foursome. All players who beat the pro’s gross
score with their net score for 18 holes will be winners.
Best Consecutive Nine (or Five for nine holers)
Best consecutive nine (or five) holes out of the 18 (or 9) played less ½ your
handicap. For example: select holes 8-16.
BLIND NINE or BLIND FIVE (Nine holers)
The Pro Shop will draw nine (or five) holes during play that will be used for the event
score. The total of the nine (or five) holes minus ½ your handicap will determine
your event score. Another version is for the Pro Shop to draw either the front nine or
the back nine.
BLIND PARTNERS
Sign up as an individual for this partnered event. Partners will be drawn by the Play
Day Chair following the completion of the playday. The partners combined scores
for low gross and low net awards will determine winners.
CRIERS
Each player throws out her worst three holes and substitutes par in their place.
Then calculate your net score using full handicap.
CRISS CROSS-ON THE MARSH COURSE
Choose the best gross score from each pair of holes (#1 & #10, #2 & #11, #3 & #12,
etc.). The event score would be a 9 hole score minus ½ your handicap.
DROP OUT SCRAMBLE (4321)
A team will consist of four players A-B-C-D. Each player drives off the tee, selects
the ball the team wants to use (the player’s ball that is selected does not hit the next
shot – she drops out), everyone else plays from the selected series of shots until
holed out.
You must use four (4) drives of the A player, three (3) drives of the B player, two (2)
drives of the C player, and one (1) drive of the D player.
EVENS
The event score will be calculated on the even numbered holes, less ½ your
handicap.
GUESS YOUR NET
Before teeing off, record on your score card in the event space, the net score you
expect to shoot. After play, record your actual net score in the event space as well.
LOW PUTTS
Players with the lowest number of putts for the day will win.
LUCKY 4’S
The event score will be the total of all par 4 holes minus ½ your handicap.
MAKE YOUR OWN FOURSOME – 2 BB NET Sign up in a 4-some. The team score
will consist of the 2 Net Best Balls totaled together.
MAKE YOUR OWN FOURSOME - PINK BALL/LOW NET
Each 3 or 4 person team gets a pink ball that each player on the team must play an
equal number of holes (extra holes to be decided by the team). If your team loses
the pink ball you are out of the money, but all players should finish to hand in cards.
Winners will be decided from the combined net scores of the teams that hand in their
pink ball.
MEMBER-MEMBER BEST BALL
Part of a two-day event. Each player plays her own ball and the best gross score
obtained on each hole by either partner will be used to determine best ball total.
Deduct ½ your combined handicap.
MEMBER-MEMBER SCRAMBLE
Part of a two-day event. Played with a partner who is a member. Select the best
ball on each series of shots, including putts and both players contribute to hole out.
(Two-person scramble format).
NASSAU
Best front, best back, and best overall gross and/or net will be awarded.
ODDS
The event score will be calculated on the odd numbered holes, less ½ your
handicap.
O.N.E.S
Only the holes beginning with the letters O-N-E-S (1,6,7,8,9 and 11,16,17 &18) will
count for the event. Deduct ½ of your handicap.
PARTNERS – BEST BALL
Players pick the best gross score of the twosome on each hole and deduct your full
handicap on each hole.
PARTNERS – CHOICE OF FRONT NINE/BEST BALL BACK NINE
Choose best front nine of the team less ½ her handicap. Use best ball format on the
back nine using strokes where they fall. Play all holes as usual.
PARTNERS – BEST BALL STABLEFORD
Sign up with a Partner for the event. Played using full handicap per hole as in
individual Stableford points. Play for points and use best points on each hole for
your team score.
PARTNERS - BEST BALL TWOSOME
Partnership event. The best gross score obtained on each hole by either partner will
be used to determine best ball total. From that, ½ of the combined partnership’s
handicap is deducted for the event score.
PARTNERS ODDS OR EVENS
Sign up with a partner for the event. Before teeing off, partners declare whose score
the team will be taking for the odd numbered holes and whose score the team will be
taking for the even numbered holes. Play all holes, but the event score will be the
total of the odds from one player and the evens from the other player, minus ½ of the
total of both partner’s handicaps.
PARTNERS – SURPRISE ODDS OR EVENS
Sign up with a partner for the event. After play, PlayDay Chair will provide a way for
partners to have a drawing (or some other method) to determine whose score the
team will be taking for the odd numbered holes and whose score the team will be
taking for the even numbered holes. Play all holes, but the event score will be the
total of the odds from one player and the evens from the other player, minus ½ of the
total of both partner’s handicaps.
PARTNERS - STABLEFORD POINTS
Sign up with a Partner for the event. Played using full handicap as in individual
Stableford points. Play for points; add them together to make a team score.
S’s & T’s
Only holes that start with S or T (2,3,6,7 and 10,12,13,16,17) are used for the event
less ½ your handicap.
SELECTIVE NINE or FIVE (nine holers)

hosting a playday once a month on a Thursday (usually on the 4th Thursday)
starting in January. All 18-hole players belonging to their clubs’ Ladies Golf
Association are invited to play. The maximum handicap allowed is 36 and
determined by index and slope.
The $50 entry fee includes golf, cart rental, lunch and prize money. There is a $2
optional donation for two “Closest to the Pin” prizes and a $1 fee for the Hole-in-One
prize pot.
Players are divided into flights with no more than 10-12 players of the same
approximate handicap level in each flight. There are 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in each
flight. The Stableford point system is used for scoring and the top four scores from
each club determine how the club ranks.
It is a great way to get to play other courses in our area and to meet ladies from
other clubs (think Member/Guest). The first 11 to sign up are guaranteed to play and
others may play if there are openings available. Sign up will be on-line starting
about a month prior to play. Be sure to give it a try – you’ll be glad you did!
