Think like a diver,dive aware.
We spend a lot of t ime and effort gett ing to know the
equipment we use in scuba diving.
What about that one i rreplaceable piece of k i t? How
much do we know about how the human diver works?
This is a course ful l of theory and references to psychological
sciences, with summaries of research in dive psychology. I t 's
Psych. 101 for divers!
You wil l learn about psychology and how to apply this
understanding in your div ing and dive training. You wil l also
pract ice var ious psychological ski l ls for div ing.

Is this a real PADI course? Yes! PADI Psychological Diver is an
approved dist inct ive course and may be counted towards your
PADI Master Scuba Diver rat ing.
Who is this course for? This course is for qual i f ied divers, of
Open Water level and above.
What wil l I learn? Human behaviour is complex, even more so
underwater . In this course you wil l learn about yourself as a
diver and ways to dive smarter .
How long is the course? The elearning is designed to take 6-12
hours (depending on deep you want to go! ) Following that ,
there are a range of opt ions including a classroom-based
psychological ski l ls session and opt ional dives.
Where can I take the course? The elearning is accessed onl ine
and contains al l of the knowledge development for the course,
but for ful l cert i f icat ion, we wil l need to meet up. I f you would
l ike to organise a ful l course for your centre or club, contact

Wil l I get a card? Yes! On successful complet ion of the course,
you wil l gain a PADI dist inct ive specialty card. More
importantly, you wil l have an improved awareness of yourself
as a diver .

development is del ivered via
eLearning (the Psychology for
Scuba Divers onl ine course) . You
wil l complete the eLearning
individually before attending for
an in-person session.
(approx. 7-14 hours)
workshop – (dry) An opportunity
for discussion and workshop
exercises. You wil l complete
the exam to ensure knowledge
development.
( recommend 4 - 6 hours)
This course works the same way as other PADI courses, withknowledge development, assessment and (optional) dives.
optional dives – There are
three opt ional dives to
choose from, depending on
your interests and
development needs.
Dive A (open water) focuses on awareness and attention,Dive B (confined or open water) is focuses on skill development through training/coaching and practice.Dive C (open water) focuses on neuropsychological changes with depth (i.e. planning, problem-solving, memory).

EXAMPLE 1 - the course player and a typical lesson. This lesson is the third within the f inal topic, Develop in Diving, and presents an educat ional psychology theory relat ing to how people learn via the student- instructor relat ionship.
Five lessons per topic, lessons may be doodle videos, presentations, talking exercises, text and image, or audio.

Simple narrated doodles present psychological theory in lay terms.
EXAMPLE 2 - "doodle" v ideo. These lessons talk through complex ideas in asimple way. In this example, excessive task loading is presented with themetaphor of overloaded Wif i . This lesson fol lows from earl ier lessons on howthe brain works, attent ion and leads on to further lessons on s i tuat ionalawareness, stress and learning.
EXAMPLE 3 - a short quiz . At the end of each sect ion, you wil l check yourlearning by taking a quick quiz based on the learning object ives for thatsect ion. The course includes lessons on how we learn and presents the valuefor self-test ing in retent ion of knowledge and motivat ion.
