A meeting of the Planning and Environment Committee was held in October 2018 so Paddock

Wood residents (many U3A members) could question Southern Water. Minutes can be found at:

Planning Applications

At the Planning and Environment Committee meeting held on Monday 17th September 2018

our Town Councillors unanimously objected to the above application after listening to objections from

residents and businesses.

Many residents were unaware of the Application - the only notice given was by a couple of sheets of A4 attached to the perimeter fence. This is how it is done now, and the sheets don’t even need to be laminated. Tunbridge Wells Borough Council say: From 1 April 2017 we have changed the way we

tell you about planning applications for properties near your home or business. We will be publicising applications by putting up notices around the site (and by a newspaper advertisement where we are

required to do so by law). We will no longer be sending letters to neighbouring properties.

It is well worth visiting this site to stay informed:www.tunbridgewells.gov.uk/residents/planning/planning-

As Shaw Taylor said “Keep ‘em Peeled”

The next production by the talented Russett Players will be

the hilarious (but saucy) Alan Bennett comedy, Habeas Corpus.

Synopsis:Antics at the Wicksteed home are a satirical merry-go-round. Family, friends and the sexual satisfaction of the “corpus” (body) are the ruling passions in this farcical comedy of ill-manners. Through a dance of

mistaken identities and carnal encounters, one motto holds fast: “He whose lust lasts, lasts longest.

As you know when Michele Sinclair became chairman she relinquished the role of Study Days Organiser which she had held since the very beginning of our U3A in 2011. Anyone who has been on one of her trips

will agree she did a magnificent job - a hard act to follow.

A Study Days Team has been set up, led by Cheryl Linnegar. Each member will organise one event, and having had an early view of the events for next year I can say that there are some real gems - I may sign up for all of them! Watch out for the list of events in the 2019 Handbook when you renew your membership.

Tricia Bewsey has organised a trip to the V&A in Kensington for Wednesday April 3rd; the much anticipated “Christian Dior Designer of Dreams” exhibition. This sold out in Paris and features a different style and

collection for this unique visit to London. From 1947 to the present it traces the history and impact of one of the 20th century’s most influential couturiers, the enduring influence and relationship with Britain.

On February 12th 1947, a humble man called Christian Dior catapulted to international stardom with the launch of his debut haute couture collection. Immediately upon its reveal at Dior’s studio, fashion critic and Harper’s Bazaar editor-in-chief Carmel Snow exclaimed, “It’s quite a revelation, dear Christian. Your dresses have such a new look!”. From uttering a sentence of gracious praise, Ms. Snow was to coin perhaps the most

iconic debut collection of all time.

In a firm response to the fabric restrictions during World War II, Dior zealously crafted his revolutionary designs with countless yards of extravagant materials. His designs restored ultra femininity to both the

fashion industry and women worldwide. Featuring a cinched waist, accentuated bust, and full-length pleated skirt, Dior’s opulent “New Look” introduced his legendary “Tailleur Bar” ensemble (the “Bar Suit”).

With a dominance of boxy shapes popularized by houses such as Chanel and Lanvin in the 20s and 30s, Christian Dior’s New Look soon took the world by storm and began the history of contemporary fashion.

A group booking of tickets can be arranged, cost around £22, plus travel. Museum members are free. We envisage using public transport, and leaving you to make your own lunch arrangements, travelling in one

or more groups depending on numbers. Due to the expected popularity or this exhibition, a commitment if possible by the January Open day at the Study Day table would be appreciated. Tricia Bewsey

Paddock Wood Foodbank, otherwise known as the Community Store House, is an essential resource for so many trying to keep their heads above water and recover their situation, especially the new residents in Dowding

House. Apart from food which is donated, the few rooms that the Foodbank use in the Wesley Hall have to be rented which amounts to several thousands of pounds each year.

“Jim, Harriet and I are organising a fund raiser for The Community Storehouse - Call my Wine Bluff - in February

next year. Please see the flyer for full details of this fun evening. It would be great if you could join us and please

can you all spread the word. We would like to sell between 100 and 120 tickets to
