Pack Committee Chair What a great year our past Scouting Year (June 06-June 07) was and I feel that the next year is going to be even better. We have many new programs coming up as the District has taken in interest in our Pack and it’s past year’s success. “You all have done a great job!” Program Champions Many parents and volunteered as Program Champions (see list below). This position is very important to the success of the Pack. Without the volunteers, these vital programs would fall by the wayside and we would suffer. These programs not only support the Pack by raising funds for other programs, but help the Pack grow. The majority of these programs is conducted on an annual basis and requires minimal time and effort on the Champions part. I feel confident in making this statement as I have assisted in many of these programs. That being said, the Pack needs your help. If there is a program that looks interesting to you either as the Champion of that program or as an assistant, please let me know and we can discuss in detail the program and how you can make a difference.

Pack Leadership “The Cub Scout Helps The Pack Go” is part of the Law of the Pack. The Cubs can not achieve this goal if there are no Leaders to help them do it. Helping the Pack go is achievable in many ways: by you raising the Cub sign when it is up “Helps The Pack Go”; participating in Den and Pack meetings “Helps The Pack Go”; taking a leadership position within the Pack “Helps The Pack Go”. There are many levels and we have one just for you. As you can see from the list below we have many open positions and every position has an open Assistant position. “Just Ask”. We also need to start thinking about replacements for the Leaders that will be transitioning out at the end of the year.

As Den Leaders, this past year as been very rewarding for me and my wife Kristen. Seeing the changes in the boys on an almost weekly basis is what it is all about. As the Committee Chair I have been rewarded by working with the best bunch of volunteers I have ever seen. Between being Moms and Dads, going to and from soccer or baseball, holding down jobs, and just being a family, all the volunteers have done a great job “Helping The Pack Go”. 2008 Pinewood Derby The Pack 727 10th Annual Pinewood Derby was held January 19th in the MPR at Melinda Heights. Things got interesting when we arrived at 7:30 and found the MPR room was locked. Around 8:45, due to some creative and unauthorized breaking and entering, the doors were finally opened, along with the unexpected sound of the burglar alarm. Although we expected police and fire trucks to arrive, we were able to thwart their arrival after a few phone calls. We will no doubt face some interrogation from Mr. Rawlings in the near future. With our goal of 100% participation, we were pleased to have 66 of our 73 registered scouts participate this year. Pinewood Derby is one of those pinnacle events in Cub Scouting which scouts will reminisce about with their kids and wives in years to come. Pinewood Derby is rich in tradition and deserving of recognition in the annals of Cub Scouting. Our pack is so fortunate to have such great volunteers in all committees, and this one is no exception. I want to thank everyone who makes this event go, from the committee members, to the den leaders and most of all to the parents. It is the parent’s involvement that the kids will remember most.
