The IDM Preventive Maintenance and Calibration (PM&C) program has been designed tomake the maintenance and calibration of your valuable testing equipment more cost effectiveby preventing breakdowns and downtime by regular calibration, service and replacement ofdefective parts. IDM's PM&C system takes care of all service and repair needs you mayhave. It is an on-site maintenance and calibration service available on a regular basis,suitable to your needs and your testing equipment.

The PM&C program is the best way to ensure your testing equipment is maintained inoptimum working condition. PM&C team members are supplied with the necessary meansto sustain your testing equipment's peak performance throughout its lifetime, benefiting bothyou and your equipment. Testing equipment in your facility (or at IDM) will be calibratedusing industry-wide, internationally recognised standards or by your specific requirements.Calibrated instruments are labelled accordingly and documented with an IDM full calibrationreport or certificate of conformance (whichever is applicable). All calibrations are maintainedin IDM's calibration database and you will be notified when your next service/calibration isdue. IDM's Calibration work is comprehensive- adjusting your equipment to give you the rightresults, whenever possible.

Through this system of scheduled PM&C, IDM can help you improve productivity by reducingdown time, minimising unscheduled maintenance and the need for service calls. Weschedule in agreed dates and periods for the PM&C program, and give you prior notificationso you have time to prepare yourself. This service is available in Australia only at this point oftime.

Coefficient of Friction TesterModel: C0008

IDM’s extremely popular COF Tester is used to determine the static andkinetic friction of plastic film, sheeting, paper and other sheeted material.This unit can measure Static COF (peak) from a resting position andcontinue to move testing surfaces in a relative motion to give an accuratekinetic COF (dynamic) result.

This COF Tester employs a stationary sled with a moving plane. With the option of a computersoftware package to record data, the IDM COF Tester has proven itself to be a fast, reliableand accurate method of determining coefficient of friction in various areas of manufacturing.

Coefficient of Friction TesterModel: C0008-VS (Variable Speed)

The C0008-VS model has all the same features as the C0008with the addition of speed from 50 – 300mm/min using astepper motor for acuate variable speed control. It also has a home setting so that once youhave completed a test and unloaded your sample it will return to the start point “HOME” readyfor the next sample.

All the motion run controls are via a LCD touch screen for stop, start, home and speedchanges. This COF tester is the next level in accurate and precise COF measurement for staticand kinetic results, as with the C0008 Peel Testing and Heated Platen Testing can also becarried out on this model.

Coefficient of Friction TesterModel: C0041 (Automated )

Manufactured to determine the static and kinetic friction ofplastic film, sheeting and paper and other sheeted material using

the horizontal plane principle. The C.O.Friction Tester employs a moving sled with astationary table. The table has a clamping system preventing slippage of the test pieceduring a test. The sled is lowered onto the table by means of an elevator system, whichplaces the sled so as both test surfaces meet simultaneously, eliminating any operator error,which may influence the results of the test.

Coefficient of Friction TesterModel: C0045 (Incline Plane)

This instrument is used to determine the coefficient of static friction ofmost packaging materials by measuring the angle at which one testsurface begins to slide against another inclined surface as the incline is increased at aconstant and prescribed rate. As the plane rises at a rate of 1.5° ±0.5°/s, the first sign ofmovement from the sled is detected by a micro switch, stopping the plane movement andrecording the relevant angle of the incline. The test is frequently referred to as a slide angle.The coefficient of friction is numerically equivalent to the tangent of that angle.

Coefficient of Friction TesterModel: C0049 (Hot Slip)

The C0049 Coefficient of Friction Tester is designed to determinethe friction properties of plastic films, foils, laminates, papers andboards.

The equipment performs tests to most of the recognised international test standardsincluding IS0 8295 and ASTM 1894-78. The equipment is essential for measuring the slipproperties of packaging materials to ensure smooth running on production packagingmachines or to measure the effect that a coating or print has on base material.

A manual Incline Plane COF Tester. This unit is used to determine thecoefficient of static friction of most packaging materials. As the planerises, the first sign of movement from the sled is detected by the operatorand a recording of the relevant angle of the incline is noted. The test is frequently referred toas a slide angle. The coefficient of friction is numerically equivalent to the tangent of thatangle.

This machine is used to form test flutes in medium in preparation forcrush tests. Temperature is maintained at a constant 175°C. One rolleris motor driven at 4 r/min, while the other is free to rotate with a minimumof friction or other resistance. Variable speed option is available.

The Crease and Stiffness Tester is used to measure the force required tobend board in machine and cross directions of grain. The value of creasestiffness is technically important in the folding of carton blanks during theirerection and closure. The crease recovery (spring back) can result in forces,which distort the erected carton or cause stresses to be applied to closures,which reduce their effectiveness.

This instrument is used to monitor scoring equipment to ensure boxperformance, by measuring the bending resistance of creased board atthe time of folding at the crease.It measures the maximum force required to bend the sample board.Corrugated converters use the Crease Bend Tester to aid in making adjustments to improvethe quality, ensuring the end user will have boxes that run effectively on their production line.

Crush TesterModel: CT-21

Crush Testers determine the compression strength of corrugated andfibreboard and their components. The Flat Crush Test evaluates the resistance of flutes in corrugated board to a crushing forceapplied perpendicular to the surface of the board. The air permeance is the flow of air through unit area under unit pressuredifference in unit time, under specified test conditions and is expressed inum/Pa.s. This equipment is used to measure the thickness of paper, plastic,tissue and other sheeted material and features a built-in computer andexclusive testing software.

Dewatering Device

The Pulmac Dewatering Device is a tool designed to allow the controlleddewatering of an unknown (3-15% concentration) pulp sample to a consistentsolids content in just five minutes. Weighing out pulp from this dewateredsample accurately “predicts” an oven dried equivalent pulp sample for avariety of test purposes.

DirtScan™100

The DirtScan™100 is specifically designed to be used in conjunctionwith the Pulmac Master Screen to generate a relative dirt count onscreened dirt displayed on a 22 cm in diameter white filter paper.Depending on pulp and application a 75 um, 100 um, or 150 um slottedscreen plate may be used.

Disintigrator

For standardized disintegration of pulp suspensions. This robust,well-proven disintegrator is very simple to operate. The upper part ofthe unit is balanced, and can easily be opened with just one hand inorder to place the disintegrator pot beneath. The disintegrationprocess begins as soon as the start button is pushed. Two safetydevices prevent agitation starting without the container. When thepreset number of rotations is reached, the unit switches offautomatically. The number of rotations is automatically reset to zero.

Drum Dryer

The Pulmac Speed dryer is used to rapidly pre-dry collected rejects oraccepts from the Pulmac MasterScreen™. The Pulmac Speed Dryerspeed-drys rejects and/or accepts within 2-4 minutes. The pre-drieddebris can then be quickly measured in a moisture balance.

The DuPont Impact Tester has been designed to test the endurance of coatedmaterial, when impacted by a falling weight at specified points. The purpose of thetest is to see if test specimens can resist the effect of rapid impact testing. TheDuPont Impact Tester can also be used on paintings with coated materials.

The Edge Compression Cutter has been designed and manufactured tocut accurate samples from corrugated board for testing purposes. The Guide Blocks aid inthe determination of the resistance of corrugated fibreboard to a load applied in the plane ofthe board in a direction parallel to the flutes, i.e. parallel to the cross direction of thecomponent sheets.

Elmendorf Tear Testers

Tear Testers quickly and accurately measures the tear resistance of sheetmaterials including paper, textiles, roofing products, film and foils.Three models are available, Electronic ProTear, Mechanical ProTear andthe Heavy-Duty ProTear.

Film Free Shrink TesterModel: F0006

The Film Free Shrink Tester consists of a small, circular aluminiumblock, electrically heated and controlled by a temperature controller.Using aluminium foil discs with silicon oil, the test piece is placed into itto accelerate shrinkage at selectable temperatures.

Flexseal®Model: F0022

The Flexseal® is an advanced leak detection system designed for monitoringthe seal performance of flexible and semi rigid packages.It provides the user with a valuable visual method of determining the integrityof the package and seal using a simple and easy process. It allows rapiddetection of failures, and enables early corrective action to be taken.

Gelbo Flex TesterModel: G0002

The Gelbo Flex Tester is used to determine whether certain laminationsof plastic withstand repetitive strain. By attaching sample pieces oflaminated plastic to the two circular clamping disks, via hose clamps, thespecimen is twisted and turned to the specific movements. This process will show a visualresult of pin holding and delamination.

Gelbo Flex TesterModel: G0002-C (Unit with Cooling Chamber)

The Gelbo Flex Tester with Cooling Chamber is used to perform flextesting for plastic film, laminate plastic, within a controlled temperatureenvironment. The chamber can be set to a temperature between -5 to -40°± 1°C. The Chamber also has a large viewing window to view samplesduring testing.

Designed to cut 100cm² circular paper samples to assess Grammage.This is an important factor as most paper is bought and sold inaccordance with its mass per unit area. Other values such as burstingstrength, thickness and bulk are all determined using Grammage.

Hot Tack TesterModel: H0005

An advanced system for monitoring the seal performance of flexible andsemi rigid plastic bags or tubes. This unit determines the capability of aheat-seal join to hang together when it is stressed, at a specified timeinterval, while still hot from the sealing operation, but before it reachesambient temperature. The overall design of a package can contribute ordetract from the materials ability to provide hot tack during the sealing process.

Units designed to determine the quality of adhesion, and scuff resistanceof ink to paper surfaces, plastic and aluminium film. The method ofoperation is that a 2 or 4 lb weight with a clean white board is swept

across the test piece for a set number of times, and then closely examined. Heated weightsare also available.

Laboratory Heated PressesL0002 & L0003 Series

IDM’s Laboratory Presses are designed for pressing or helping to formsamples between two heated platens. Digital temperature controllersenable the platens to be heated or cooled and even set process times forheating and cooling. A digital panel meter is used to display thecompression force (kgf) enabling fast and accurate operation.

Laboratory Heat Sealers are designed to be used fordevelopment work to help determine the sealing properties and characteristics of plastic andlaminated materials. The Heat Sealer is electrically heated and temperature controlled withadjustable sealing pressure, controlled by a timer. ECO models are made to order at a fixedsealing bar size. PRO models can be adjusted to fit multiple sized bars.

Laminator

The Pulmac Laminator is a robust laminator designed to be used withthe Pulmac MasterScreen for sample preparation of displays foranalysis of Stickies, Dirt, and/ or Shives by scanner. This laminator isdesigned for industrial use. Temperature, nip pressure, and rollerspeed have been standardized. The unit comes with a carrier.

The Light Transmission Tester has been specially designed and manufactured toevaluate the light transmission properties of various shaped plastic containers.

Manual Sample CuttersModel: C0028

This precision sample cutter is designed for cutting testing samples ofpaper for Ring Crush Tests (12.7mm x 152mm). IDM can alsomanufacture custom sizes if required.

Master Screen

The MasterScreen™ XLQ is a low consistency screeningdevice designed to mechanically separate shives, dirtand/or stickies from fiber. After screening, the

contaminates are washed directly onto a filter paper,and water is removedby the Auto-Filter’s vacuum-assist drain system. The master screenprovides a rapid and repeatable method for concentrating and collectingshives, stickies and/or dirt.

The Pulmac Accept Collection Bag is used to collect fiber accepted fromthe Pulmac Master Screen. The ACB captures all fiber that will not pass a200 mesh screen. Separate frame and bag. Will capture up to 10 g, oven

dried equivalent, of pulp from the MasterScreen. Bag is taken out of frame and backwashed toaccess.

Pail Measuring InstrumentModel: P0009

The Pail Measuring Instrument is manufactured with two recesses, onefor 10 to 20 litre pails on the left-side, and 1 to 10 litre pails on the rightside. The instrument will display the measurement in mm once thecylinder has stopped moving.

Paper Schmidt HammerModel: 3421-0000

PaperSchmidt is a rebound test hammer designed specifically for paper rollhardness testing. Irregular rolls and other defects such as corrugations andtelescoping are caused by non-uniform paper roll hardness profiles are amajor cause of lost production for both producers and converters alike. A reliable measurement of theroll hardness profile is of critical importance in deciding whether a roll is good or bad. Production staffneeds to be able to test quickly and reliably and to interpret the results as efficiently as possible.

Paper Tube Crush TesterModel: C0020

This unit has been designed as a cost effective machine to measure thestrength of manufactured paper cores up to a crushing force of 10kN. Thecrush test samples can be slices of the paper core ranging from 25mm to100mm wide and up to 300mm in diameter.

Permeability Cups - Vapometers

Used to determine the water vapor permeability of sheeted materials suchas specialty paper grades, polyethylene, leather, vinyl, foil, laminates etc.

Essential in determining if a material is moisture proof or has the ability to protect contentsfrom the transmission of water vapor.

PET Bottle Pressure TesterModel: PEBT-4000

The PEBT-4000 PET Bottle Pressure Tester is an advance testingequipment specialized for testing the PET bottles. It has been designedin conformity to the three international commonly used testing methods:(1) Ramp Fill Mode; (2) Burst Mode; (3) User-Defined Mode.

The machine uses touch screen interface with automatic effusion,clamping the sample and testing. Pressurizing process is controlled byservo valve.

Precision Drop Testers

Performs vertical impact tests on complete, filledtransport packages by dropping. The test may be performed either as a singletest to investigate the vertical impact or as part of a sequence of tests designedto measure the ability of a package to withstand a distribution system thatincludes a vertical impact hazard.

Optional fixtures can be supplied to conduct bucket drop, corner drop and edgedrop tests.

Pulmac Pulp Strength Testing Systems

Puncture TesterModel: P-480

Determines the puncture resistance of compact and corrugatedpaperboards. It is totally reliable due to its balanced mechanicalconstruction and accuracy. A set of 3 interchangeable weights areincluded. Results are read in either Joules (kgf/cm) and 1degree scale.

Quick CutModel: C0046

An easy to operate apparatus used for cutting corrugated cardboard forsample preparation. The base is supplied with engraved cutting guides forquick and easy cutting of cardboard.

Rub Proof TesterModel: I0005

Used to evaluate the ink transfer from printed/coated materials from rubbing.Dead loads are placed on top of the upper disc to achieve a known pressure.The S/S sample holders are manufactured to enable dry or wet rubs and adigital cycle counter stops the test at the pre-set value.

Score Bend Testers

IDM offers machines to measure the force to open or bend paperboard andscored paper carton. Optional fixtures can be fitted to also conductspring back after folding, providing critical information for sealing or gluingoperations.

Scott Internal Bond TesterModel: PCA 1270

This instrument is used to produce a high speed Z-directional rupture ofpaper and paperboard. It is a dynamic test that measures and definesstrength in terms of energy absorption.

StickyScan™100

The StickyScan™100 is specifically designed to be used in conjunctionwith the Pulmac MasterScreen™ to generate a stickies count basedupon screening contaminants, displaying them on a 22 cm in diameterfilter paper, preparing the display, then scanning.

Depending on pulp and application a 0.004”, 0.006” or 0.008” slottedscreen plate may be used.

TensileTesterModel: DI-21

The DI-21 determines the tensile strength, stretch & TEA (tensileenergy absorption) of paper, board and tissue for Q.C and R&D.

The unit is user friendly & reliable due to its built-in testing software,offering complete statistics, a parallel port for connection of a local printer & an RS232 serialport for the connection to a host computer for data transfer.

Thickness Gauge Digital Indicator with StandModel: T0013

Providing statistical results, this unit can be used on many different materialswhere an accurate measurement of thickness is required. Different options canbe fitted to suit custom requirements including mm/inch gauge readout andspecial foot sizes.

Thickness Gauges – Hand HeldT0014 Series

Handheld Thickness Gauges can be used on many differentmaterials where an accurate measurement of thickness isrequired. Different models are available depending on weight andcontact point required.

Thickness Gauges - UltrasonicT2100 Series

Thickness of the measured material is based on the accurate time that theultrasonic transits in the material. This Gauge series are equipped withmicrocomputers that analyze, handle and display the current data. Theyfeature highly optimized measuring circuits and offer high measurementaccuracy.

Water Resistance of Glue Bond TesterModel: RC-21

Specifically designed to determine the resistance of corrugated paperboard towithstand wet conditions by immersion in water.

Water Vapour Transmission TesterModel: PVA/4

Used for the preparation of test pieces for the accurate measurement of thewater vapour transmission rate flexible packaging materials, includingparchment, wax paper, polyethylene, vinyl, cellophane, foil, laminates, andother materials.

Universal Testing Machines

IDM provides a range of UTM’s which feature multipletesting capabilities including compression testing andtensile testing. UTM’s eliminate the need of havingmultiple machines to perform various tests (i.e.compression and tensile).

UTM’s offer versatility and the ability to set up dual tests to speedup test set up, production & ultimately reduces operator fatigue & possible setup errors.

Z-Span™ Tester

The Z-Span™ manual bench top tester measures zero and short pantensile strength with individually loaded handsheet or machine madepaper samples. The Z-Span™ Tester generates individual tensilereadings from pre- pared test strips. The Dial-a-Gap attachmentfacilitates testing at multiple spans from 0.2 mm to 0.6 mm. The WestTesting Kit supports sample preparation and testing of re-wet teststrips.

Z-Span™ Tester (Automated)

The Automated Z-Span™ Tester offers an automated zero and shortspan testing capability. Once the sample handsheets or strip isloaded onto the feed tray, 24 wet/ dry, zero/short span tests areexecuted during a five minute testing sequence. Followingtermination of the testing sequence, test results are displayed on the

operator interface terminal and, via Ethernet connection, can automatically update a local PC-based Excel data- base. The Automated Z-Span Tester is calibrated and control software isloaded as part of in-factory system integration.
