Matt is active in the theatre, acting and directing for over 30 years in dozens of produc- tions in Seattle and Wenatchee. He will appear in the Hot August Nights production of La Cage Aux Folles this summer and in Mission Creek Players production of Glengarry Glen Ross in September. Retired from teaching in 2013 after 34 years, Matt left education to assume this position at the Numerica PAC. As his father, Ed, became more deeply involved in Rotary International, he loved to show-off his kids at meeting after meeting after meeting, even during his term as International President of RI in 1985. In 1990, Matt married the beautiful Camille--and they have one son, Colby, a sophomore at Gonzaga University August 3 - District Governor Bill Jenkin (Prosser) will be with us for an all-club visit at our regular meeting place and time, followed by the eighth annual all-club potluck, 6 pm at Sunrise Circle Park. Last chance to sign up and get details at Rotary meeting this week. As the “flagship” club of the region, our club leadership encourages a GREAT turnout for these events. Let’s not allow the other clubs to outshine us! See our web site for details.

President Elect, Pete Van Well led the meeting for vacationing President Don Meyers. Head table: Sue Rose, Leonard Singhose, Angela Spies and Stacy Spurlock

In anticipation of the Apple Sox fellowship event on Monday, July 24th, Mike Kintner led the meeting in a rousing rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”. Pete read from his suggestion box, clearing up confusion about Tom McNair’s requirement to hold hands under the table during the meeting, why Pete doesn’t use an iron, encouraged all members to sign up for a committee and agreed with Carmen’s suggestion to end polio!

Announcements:

“Rotary Night at the Applesox” Fellowship event on Monday July 24th; see prior issues for details.

Our program Aug 3 will the annual visit by our District Governor (see details above, page 1).

Habitat for Humanity is moving forward. Our club will be providing some funds and labor. See Susan Albert to sign a release form and learn the schedule.

Fantasy Football Fundraiser (see announcements below).

Angela Spies introduced Stacy Spurlock for her classification talk.

Stacy was born in 1971 and has lived in the Wenatchee all her life. Her mother was considered a “rolling stone” which meant that as a child, Stacy moved several times and attended up attending every school in the area. Eventually, Stacy earned her GED from WestSide High. She credits Mr. Skaliski for encouraging her to earn her GED. It was because of him that Stacy learned about giving back to her community and what it meant to be a Rotarian

Stacy met and married her husband at age 15. They have been married for 28 years and have 2 children and 2 dogs. Stacy began working at age 15. Her first full time job was at Skookum, packing cherries, working in the cherry sheds. Then moved into the service industry as a bar- tender for 11 years which was a lot of fun and a great way to meet new people. Her favorite drink to make is a “Duck Fart” (Pete nominated Stacy to be on the Fellowship Committee).

Stacy’s mother in law had a stroke at age 53. Stacy and her husband cared for her mother in law in their home until she passed 11 years later. She is grateful that her children had the benefit of a live-in grandmother. Stacy decided to make a life change and earned her Associate Degree in Accounting. She now works at Clifton, Larsen, Allen which she claims is the best place to work!

In her free time, Stacy enjoys camping, crocheting, computers and playing pool. She played on the Wenatchee Women’s Pool league, taking 5th place out of 100 of individuals.

President Elect Pete presented Stacy with a speaker’s gift of roasted coffee from Café’ Mela.

Several Brags were shared.

Respectfully submitted, Dawn Davies

Board of Directors (BOD) - Thursday afternoon the club’s new officers and directors met for the first time of the Ro-tary year. Names & positions of the 14 members are listed on the web site home page. The agenda included such mat-ters as Firesides, dues-collection issues, bad debt, improving quality and cost of financial reports, Appleseed preparation and sponsorships, Foundation goals (after such a great year of fund-raising), satellite clubs and fellowship gatherings. A discussion on disposition of leftover WRF funds for the re-cent Haiti project was tabled pending availability of affected members. A dues discount for members under age 35 was reaffirmed until future consideration. The board discussed the newly developing multicultural satellite club and decided that attendance qualifies as a makeup meeting, just as with the on-going Friday fellowship gathering at Pybus Market.
