Opening reception and free all-ages art-making workshop: September 12, 6:30-8 PM A group exhibition of sculpture and installation by contemporary mid-career artists addressing narratives related to science and technology. Curator Jeffrey Mongrain is an artist and Head of MFA Sculpture at Hunter College in NYC. 10 classes: September 30 – December 9 Fee: $435/392 Members + Model Fee: $60.00 Learn to paint a portrait from a live, clothed model in oil, pastel, or drawing media. Become skilled at the fundamentals such as getting an accurate likeness, and aesthetically pleasing design, color and value unity, and creating a basic flesh palette. Learn the art of paper folding and construction, including basic on-the-fold pop-up structures, progressing through a series of more complicated three-dimensional glued constructions. Props, platforms, spirals, V-folds and straddle pop-ups will be covered. Its unique properties and limitations will be discussed, while exploring the technical aspects of paint handling, color mixing, and creating a flat wash. Creating a painting from start to finish will be covered, including idea development, subject matter, composition, and execution. Whether you are interested in watercolor for sketching, keeping a visual diary, or creating finished paint-ings, this class is appropriate. All skill levels are welcome.

A workshop atmosphere will help you maintain your own discipline and offers feedback from other writers. Pei-Ling Lue, author and former editor of OneStory literary magazine facilitates.

A milliner and freelance illustrator living in Pelham, Susan Saas received her BFA in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design and millinery certificate from the Fashion Institute of Technology. Obsessed with hats and headwear, Ms. Saas became head design assistant to Rod Keenan of Rod Keenan New York - an award winning member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Susan’s designs have been perched atop the heads of celebrities including Michael Jackson and Brad Pitt. Two of her designs are now part of the permanent collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Rhode Island School of Design.

The goal is to get our thoughts and ideas on to the written page.

In this class you will learn how to conceptually develop your own video game! Payment: Credit card, check, money order, or cash accepted. All payments are due before the class start date, including scholarship recipients. Payments can be made in-person, online, or by mailing in your registration with payment to: Pelham Art Center, 155 Fifth Ave, Pelham, NY 10803.

Need-Based Scholarships: Available for adults and children through grants, awarded for 25-75% of tuition fees only. One scholarship per student per term is available. To apply, complete and return a scholarship form, available from Pelham Art Center and our website.

Emergency First Aid Forms: Students with a medical condition that could require Pelham Art Center to administer emergency first aid must complete an Emergency First Aid Form, to be kept on file (forms are available at the front desk).

Late Pick-Up Policy: NEW! As a courtesy to the instructors and PAC staff, we request that all students are picked up ON TIME. To ensure that students are not picked up late, PAC has implemented the following late pick-up billing policy: $10 per every 15 minutes late, beginning ten minutes after the class has ended. PAC will charge the credit card used to pay for the current semester’s workshop or classes in which the student is enrolled.

Rolling/Late Registration: Students may enroll in most classes after the semester has begun. All fees are pro-rated except material, lab, model, and firing fees.

Weather Related Closing: If weather necessitates closing and cancelling classes, this information will be on the Center’s telephone recording at (914) 738-2525 x111.Make up sessions will be scheduled.

Class Cancellations: PAC reserves the right to cancel classes and/or delay the start date. If cancelled, everyone registered will be notified and issued a full refund.

Cancellations: 7 days or more before first class - refund minus $25 cancellation fee or 100% credit towards a future class, to be used within 12 months date issued. Cancellations that occur within 6 days before the first class - 75% refund or 100% credit towards a future class, to be used within 12 months of date of issue. Cancellations on day of or after class has begun: No refund; credit issued for value of remaining classes. Must be used within 12 months of date of issue. Refunds or credits will not be issued for any missed classes, or anticipated absences.

Discounts: Members receive a 10% discount. Senior members receive a 15% discount. Material, lab, model, and firing fees are not discounted.

Materials Lists: Before classes begin, please contact the Art Center for material lists for adult classes. Some lists may be provided on the first day of class. High school students may also be required to purchase materials; please call for information.

Parking: Street, metered, and disabled parking available. Bring quarters!
