Function and Usage
Mounting and Connection Instructions - Internal Bus Controller 9
1. Function and Usage
The gradual decline of the ISA-slots in modern PCs required the support of the functionality ofspecialized ISA-cards for PCI-Bus as well.
The serial interface for PCI-Bus-systems supplies your PC with two additional RS 485 -interfaces. These interfaces (port 1 and port 2) are integrated to the interface card.On port 1 and port 2 two independent serial RS 485 - interfaces with a galvanical isolation of1 kVare made available.
The interface card can be used for access control systems (MultiAccess for Wiondows) and timerecording systems (MultiTime for Windows) instead of an external bus controller. Herewith oneinterface card replaces two external bus controllers. A maximum of up to 4 of those interfacecards can be installed per PC.
Antipassback and Master-Slave-configuration are supported at thepresent time.
Restrictions: not
2. Galvanical Isolation and ESD-Protection
The ports 1 und 2 of the interface card are galvanivanically isolated to each other and to the PCwith an isolations voltage of a minimum of 1 kV.
The galvanical isolation of the signals is realised by quick opto-couplers; the driver and receivermodules are supplied with power by a galvanical isolated DC/DC-converter. Please note that theshielding of the interface plug connectors via the metallic slot plate has a direct connection to thechassis ground of the PC.All signal lines of the serial interfaces are protected against static discharges via a voltage of up to15 kV according to IEC 801-2, step 4.
3. Installation
1. Remove the PCI-card out of the antistatic wrapping.Try to touch only the side or the connection plate of the interface card.
2. Check DIP-switches and set them if necessary (see 5, 7 and 8).
3. Plug the PCI-card into a free PCI-sllot. If more than one card gets installed, the operatingsystem
normally recognizes automatically to which slot the cards are connected. The cards get corres-pondingly numbered in In NetEdit. Just check and change manually if necessary (see NetEditinstallation manual).
4. Fix the interface card.
5. Close cover and switch on the device.
Installing the PCI-card is only allowed to be done in de-energized state!

4. Drivers and Software-Installation
The serial PCI-interface cards require special drivers to be used with the individual operatingsystems. Those drivers are on the CD, which is included in the scope of delivery.Concerning the number and types of supported operating as well as technical featuresthe drivers continuously get developed.
After booting, automatically recognizes new hardware beeing added andrequires the concerning drivers. Insert the driver-CD and enter the CD-drive. The installationprocess runs automatically. For (V4 or higher; see system requirements for MAfW / MTfW) the SETUP-programon the driver-CD must be run manually.
Now the internal bus controller can be created in NetEdit.(see NetEdit installation manual).

The installation process runs automatically.
Windows 2000 / XP
Windows NT
In both cases a reboot is necessary after installing the drivers!

7. Operation Modes / DIP-Switches
The RS 485 - interface of the PC-card can be set to two different operation modes by DIP-switches (see 5):
There is one data-channel and one handshake-channel for each direction. The RS 485 - driversand receivers are always active in this operation mode.
There is one data-channel for each direction. The RS 485 - driver module is switched on with RTSresp. DTR = "ON", whereas RTS resp. DTR = "OFF" is used to set the driver to high-impendancemode. The receive channel is deactivated on switched on driver, but switched on when the driveris set to high-impendance mode.

8.Terminating
All RS 485 - operation modesnecessarily require the ter-minating of the bus system via aterminating network, whichguarantees a defined idle state inphases of high-impandance.The connection of the bussystem to a terminating networkcan be done by closing DIP-switch 6 and 7 on the PC-card(see table of step 7):
