WORLD DAY OF PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS Sunday, April 21, 2013
The purpose of he World Day of Prayer for Voca ons is to publically fulfill the Lord’s instruc on to, “Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest” (Mt. 9:38; LK 10:2). As a climax to a prayer that is con nually offered throughout the Church, it affirms the primacy of faith and grace in all that con-cerns voca ons to the priesthood and to the consecrated life. While appreci-a ng all voca ons, the Church concentrates it a en on this day on voca ons to the ordained ministries (priesthood and diaconate), to the Religious life in all its forms (male and female, contempla ve and apostolic), to socie es of apostolic life, to secular ins tutes in their diversity of services and member-ship and to the missionary life, in the par cular sense of mission “ad gentes”.
This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the World Day of Prayer for Voca ons
THE RISEN CHRIST
In this Sunday’s first reading and Gospel we see Pe-ter and the other disciples in ac on a er the death and res-urrec on of Jesus Christ. On trial, they refused to stop teach-ing in Jesus’ name, and they rejoiced at the opportunity to suffer for their beliefs. On the lake and its shore, face to face with the Risen Lord, they obeyed his direc ons and recognized him as he once again ate a meal with them. There are so many human and almost homey touches in these readings! The high priest in the first scene sounds as if he is scolding naughty students. There is an order to stop speaking in Jesus’ name, but it is evident everyone knows they will disobey again. And on the lake shore, we can imagine Peter’s excitement as he strides out of the water and is greeted by Jesus, who grins and says, “Come, have breakfast.”
The second reading, on the other hand, is anything but homey. In this passage from Revela on, John describes a scene in which the same Lord who fed his friends breakfast here receives honor and glory from everything in the universe.

WELCOME HOME!!
Catholics Come Home ministry program will meet monthly star ng in April. We will meet Tuesdays on April 16, May 15 and June 18. We will meet from 7-8pm in the St. Igna us portable located behind the church. This program is for inac ve Catholics who have a desire to par cipate fully in their Catholic faith. There can be vari-ous reasons why people have been away from the Church: some personal and/or some sacramental. One thing they all have in common is a need to be closer to Christ. This ministry provides a warm friendly, confiden-
al atmosphere that encourages par cipants to ask ques ons and share their stories. They meet with a core group of ac ve Catholics who in many cases have had similar experiences as those seeking to return to the Church. Please consider joining us. We miss you! Star ng in July the ministry will meet every 3rd Monday of the month, same me, same place. For further infor-ma on please contact Judy Zink, 813-659-0956.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
