Seventh Sunday of Easter
What is the most common image you've seen of the Ascension? It's typically Jesus
hovering above the earth surrounded by brilliant light. The Ascension is a beautiful
feast, but it's about more than the distant glory of God. It's about the blessing of God
and the transformative power of trust. "You are witnesses to these things." Before he
ascends, Jesus reminds the disciples of the basic message of the Gospel and of the
disciples' own important role. They are to proclaim the Gospel message by their per-
sonal witness to the saving power of God. "I am sending the promise of my Father
upon you... clothed with power from on high." Jesus promises to equip the disciples
for this important mission. Not only are they receiving a command, but they're re-
ceiving the empowerment they need to move. "He... raised his hands, and blessed
them." Even now, though the fulfillment of Pentecost is still to come, Jesus gives
them a parting gift before he ascends into heaven. Finally, "They... returned to Jeru-
salem with great joy, and they were continually in the temple praising God." The
disciples faced an unknown future. Their teacher had left them, and the political and
religious authorities weren't exactly thrilled about Jesus and his growing movement.
But the memory of our Father's redemptive love, the promise of the Holy Spirit, and
the blessing of Christ sustained them. Jesus trusted them to act in his name. They
could trust him in return. Do you face uncertainty in your own life? Remember, we
are all called to be disciples and witnesses. We have received the in dwelling of the
Holy Spirit at our baptism. We are blessed by Christ beyond imagining in the sacra-
ments. This Ascension feast, we too can trust in God! With this firm trust, we too
can return to our daily lives, praising God with great joy!

FAITH FORMATION PROGRAMMING: 2019-2020
FAMILY OF FAITH: Traditional Program for student in grades
K,1,3,4,5,6. Sunday mornings at 9:00-10:15a.m.
FAMILY OF FAITH: Catechesis of the Good Shepherd for
3,4,5 year olds. Sunday mornings at 9:00-10:15a.m.
FAMILY OF FAITH: Sacramental Program is a requirement
for students in grades 2, 7-8. Seventh grade will prepare for
confirmation but only receive the sacrament after completion of
8th grade. Preparation for the sacrament of confirmation is held
at Holy Sepulcher but the ceremony is received at St. Kilian’s.
Second graders will prepare for the sacrament of First
Reconciliation and First Holy Eucharist.
The sacramental programs are held on
Sundays from 9:00-10:15a.m.
FAMILY OF FAITH: Family Catechesis Program is a new pro-
gram being offered for those with busy schedules who perhaps
participate in various outside activities, making a weekly com-
mitment difficult, and for families who wish to take charge of
the faith formation of their children. Those who choose this
option commit to one monthly informational meeting between
September and April for tips and tools about the programming
for that month. These meetings will take place on the First
Sunday of most months from 11:30a.m to 12:30p.m. in the
school cafeteria.
Our goal is to give the children a greater opportunity to under-
stand and experience their Catholic faith as a family and as a
church in the place where it is nurtured, the Family. Our hope is
that the entire family will grow in their lifelong spiritual journey.
May 9th, our Senior Book
Club attended the English
Festival at Duquesne Uni-
versity. With more than
900 students participating,
the team effort put forth by
the Holy Sepulcher team
had them excelling in each
activity, taking 1st place in
every area of competition
and were awarded book prizes on that day. In addition, by
combining their team scores with advance submissions, prior
to competition day, they have been recognized as the winners
in the Super Teams! The girls will be honored at a Recogni-
tion Brunch in September and receive a check for their point
accumulation. Congratulations girls, we are so proud of you!
This year 29 students in grades 6-8 participated in National His-
tory Day on May 10-11. Fifteen of those students advanced to
the state competition at Carlisle High School. Congratulations

HOLY SEPULCHER PARISH • BUTLER, PA PAGE 7
Knights are Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, who are committed to making their community a better place,
while supporting their Church and its priests. Being a Knight is more than camaraderie; it is being involved with your
community; it is supporting your local Catholic Church, while enhancing your own faith; it is about protecting and
enhancing your family life. We currently have 106 Knights here at Holy Sepulcher and are always looking for new
members. In order to join our ranks a man must be a practical Catholic; 18 years or older. Other than taking part in an
induction ceremony and keeping up to date on modest annual dues everything else is VOLUNTARY.
You do what you can, not what you can't.
For more information and an application, contact Regis McAfee at 724-272-9860 or [email protected].
HOLY SEPULCHER KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS COUNCIL 10175
The members of Council 10175, Knights of Columbus, would like to extend an invitation to all the men of Holy
Sepulcher Parish to check us out and see what we have to offer. We are always looking for men who wish to be
involved in our Parish helping those who need our help. If you are looking for that organization that will give
you the wonderful feeling of helping lots of people, look no further! The Knights are here!
As we are in our 31ST year of existence, here are a few things you should know about us:
Contributed over $72, 000 to the parish by direct payment or performing services once paid for by the parish.
INCLUDING: - Donate monthly to cover utility costs for Knights’ functions
- Paid for repairs to warmer
- Purchased and installed serving table.
- Contributed to Eagle Scout and Girl Scout projects.
- Contributed to the school computer upgrade program.
- Contributed to the school Tuition Assistance Fund.
- Purchase BINGO and small games of chance licenses for annual bazaar.
In addition to monetary support of our parish our members:
- Provide volunteers for parish events - Festival, Fish Fry, Bingo, and Spaghetti Dinners.
- Serve as ushers, lectors, Ministers of the Eucharist, Adult altar servers for
weekend masses and funerals, money counters, etc.
- Pray the rosary at the funeral home for deceased Knights in our parish.
- Help plan, fund, and participate in the annual Men’s Retreat.
- Support and attend the March for Life.
- Operate and man the BINGO tent at the annual bazaar.
Beyond serving our parish, we also perform other charitable works:
- Contribute $1500 annually to help support three seminarians on their journey to the priesthood.
- Contributed over $70,000 to outside charities including: The McGuire Home for Challenged Children and
Adults, St. Anthony School for Exceptional Children, Butler County Food Bank, The Lighthouse, Butler County
Meals-On-Wheels, Butler VA, Global Wheelchair Mission, and some of our own parish families in need.
And finally, in keeping with the Catholic pro- life doctrine, we created, erected, and maintain the parish’s pro-life me-
morial and contribute to the Knights' Ultra Sound Project which places ultra sound equipment in clinics where expectant
mothers can actually see the baby they are bearing, causing many women to change their minds about undergoing an
abortion.
