In today's competitive culture, the need of the hour in every field including education is remarkable excellence. Realizing this need, the Computer Science Department, Modern College, Pune-05 is constantly engaged in molding futuristic information and communication technologists today.

Our students are in the field of Computer Science and Applications as well as Animation. Their entry for the course is on the basis of merit. At the undergraduate level their performance at HSC (Science) with mathematics as compulsory subject is the criteria for the admission. At the postgraduate level their performance at the B.Sc. (Computer Science) degree and performance of the entrance examination is the criterion for the admission for the M.Sc. (Computer Science) course and MCA (Under Science Faculty). Recently, University of Pune and Govt. of Maharashtra has accorded permission to start B.C.A.(Science) course.

During their graduate and postgraduate studies they undertake various projects which are relevant to the current Industrial needs. These projects have helped students to analyze and apply their theoretical knowledge to the real life situation and live projects. Through practical demonstrations, Guest Lectures, Group Discussions etc, we bring the latest in computer technology to our students. Co-curricular activities sharpen and mold their minds and help bring out their talent and other skills which also help in overall development.

We have a dedicated team of teachers, experts and well equipped laboratories. The active and highly qualified team of faculty members spare no efforts to keep the students well informed and updated with current trends in technology. The students are also reciprocating by their high achievements in academics at University level.

A large number of students are getting excellent placements in India and abroad. We feel very proud to inform that we find our shining stars at every progressive part of the world. Every year several students are also selected in reputed foreign universities for higher studies. Various educational authorities have noted the achievements of reputation of the college. There is overwhelming response from the students to secure admission to the courses offered by the department.

Kartikeya Rindani Programming Contest

Kartikeya Rindani Programming contest is a joint endeavor of Rindani Family and Alumniof Computer Science Dept. Dr. Girish Rindani and Mr. Swapnil Dharmadhikari were the chief guests of the program. Dr. Girish Rindani was felicitated with Kartikeya's portrait prepared by Prof. Sameer Nerlekar. Mr. Swapnil Dharmadhikari delivered a talk on Cloud computing.

Six needy students of Computer Science Department have received Rs.15,000/- Scholarship to pursue their further education. Mr. Prasad Bhave, Mr. Shubham Sable, Mr. Shubham Mahadik, Mr. Shubham Kshirsagar, Mr. Shivraj Birajdar, Ms. Swati Wakchure received this scholarship.

Mr. John Barlow and Mrs. Blessy Barlow from Heartfulness organization delivered a session on meditation for staff and students on 20th Jan' 2016

Poster Competition: coordinator of the event Prof. Manisha Suryawanshi

Poster Competition was conducted on 20th Jan 2016, the topics were Encryption, Computer Graphics, Ethical Hacking, Operating System, Satellite Communication, Big Data, Distributed Computing, Robotics, Gaming, Image Processing and Artificial Intelligence. Prof. Mrs. Manisha Suryawanshi worked as a co-ordinator for this activity.

Kartikeya Rindani Programming Contest

Around 48 students from various colleges actively participated in this event. Prof. Abhijeet Sathe worked as the coordinator of this event. Mr. Sagar Shinde, Mr. Chetan Khalkar, Mr. Chetan Jadhav, Mr. Sachin Sable and Mr. Rohit Prasad worked as Guides for the various events.

• R.M Marathe Programming Contest

The contest was held on 17th Dec 2015. The competition was conducted in two rounds. The first round was an objective test. The shortlisted students appeared for On-line programming competition. Forty five students participated for the Objective test and nine students were shortlisted. The prize winner was Mr. Sumit Kangne. Prof. Madhri Ghanekar worked as the co-ordinator for this programming contest

• Aura 2k16 Modern Animators Festival

Aura 2K16, Modern Animator's Festival was organized on 30th January' 2016 by the B.Sc. (Animation) students. The event was organized in the form of Exhibition and Project competition. A Seminar on VFX (Visual effects) was delivered by Mr. Anand Bhutkar

An invited talk on Network Security by Dr. Kamran Morovati

Prof. (Dr.) Kalyani Salla arranged an invited talk on Network Security by Dr. Kamran Morovati, Post Doctoral Fellow, University of New Brunswick, Canada on 11th Jan' 16. Both students and staff members actively participated in the interactive session.

• SEMINARS

Like every year the Department had organized a Seminar Series by inviting eminent personalities from the field of IT. Prof. Mrs. Manisha Suryawanshi worked as co-ordinator for the activity. This activity proved beneficial to the students as well as to the staff members and helped in establishing college and industry relationship. All teaching and non-teaching staff members took active participation in the smooth conduct of the seminar series. We are also thankful to the college administration for providing us necessary support in this regard.

Activities and support from the Alumni:

• Past students have supported in placement of current batch students in the reputed IT Industries and in offering training programs

• Project guidance is made available from Alumni to the students in the form of lectures, project guidance and by conducting counseling sessions

• Group Discussion and Seminars Group discussion sessions of the present students were arranged and seminar sessions of past students are arranged on every Saturday on different topics

• Active participation in organizing “Kartikeya Rindani Intercollegiate Progamming Contest-2014”

• Mock Interviews were conducted by the past students who are working in reputed IT industries for the current batch students to face the challenges of present competitive world and to make them mentally prepared for the competition.

Student achievements and awards:

Students took lead in organizing Project Exhibition, Poster Competition, Quiz Contest and Programming Contest and participated in various intercollegiate events. Students secured prizes in the various intercollegiate events and competitions.

Placement Service provided to the students:

• Department of Computer Science has a Placement Cell and runs placement activity through a Placement Cell for Post-Graduate Students and Under-Graduate Students. Prof. Manisha Suryawanshi has been working as a Placement Co-ordinator and Chairperson of the Placement Committee for the placement activity under her able guidance 95% of students from the Post-Graduate Wing (M.Sc.(Computer Science), MCA) are placed in reputed organizations.

• All teaching and non-teaching staff members of the Department provided necessary support in smooth conduct of this activity. Under Graduate students are also placed in reputed software companies.

Any other relevant information:

• Staff members had taken active participation in the on line admission process of F.Y.B.Sc. (Computer Science), MCA and M.Sc.(Computer Science) courses.

• A committee was constituted for conducting M.Sc. (Computer Science) and MCA Entrance Examinations in May' 2015. Dr. G.R. Ekbote (Chairman, P.E. Society) Prof. P. S. Chirputkar (Chairman, LMC), Dr. A. K. Pande (Chairman, LMC), Prof. Mrs. Jyostna Ekbote (Chairperson, LMC) Principal Dr. R. S. Zunjarrao (Chairman of the Entrance Examinations Committee) provided necessary guidance and administrative support in organizing the entrance examinations smoothly.
