• There used to be much more ozone in the stratosphere

• This thinning of the ozone layer is called ozone depletion

the ozone such as CFCs are responsible for the thinning ozone

• CFCs were first used as refrigerants ,cleaning fluids , and air conditioners

• Other CFC carrying products are shaving creams, hairsprays, deodorants, paints, and insecticides packaged in spray cans.

How does this problem negatively affect humans?

• Increased UV radiation that can cause skin cancer and cataracts

• Exposure to too much UV rays can cause sunburn of the cornea

• Increased UV radiation reaching the earth’s surface from ozone depletion in the stratosphere harms crops, forests, animals, and other materials.
