Once Christ’s work was finished, the apostles had the task of proclaiming and recording His message in Scripture. To authencate their work, God gave them the ability to do miracles of healing. Nothing in the N.T. indicates that anyone other than Jesus did miracles of nature. The apostles never created food, slled the sea, or walked on the water by themselves. The power to perform miracles was given to the apostles by Jesus (Ma. 10:1). God does heal! Genuine healings may come as a result of prayer and most oſten involves simple natural processes. Other mes, God speeds up the recovery mechanisms and restores a sick person to health in a way that medicine cannot explain. Somemes God overrules a medical diagnosis and allows someone to recover from a normally debilitang disease. Healings like that come in response to prayer and the sovereign will of God and can happen at any me. How did Jesus heal? 1. Jesus healed with a word or a touch (Ma. 8:6ff; Mark 5:25-34). There were no theatrics, no special environment. 2. Jesus healed instantly. The centurion’s servant was healed “that very hour” (Ma. 8:13). The woman with the bleeding problem was healed immediately (Mark 5:29). Jesus healed ten lepers instantaneously right on the road (Luke 17:14). Jesus did not pracce progressive healing. 3. Jesus healed totally. When Jesus approached Peter’s mother-in-law who possessed a fever, He rebuked the fever and she was immediately well (Luke 4:39). In fact, she got up and started to wait on those present. There was no recuperaon period. Her healing was instant and total. 4. Jesus healed organic disease. Jesus did not go up and down Palesne healing lower back pain, headaches, and other invisible ailments. He healed the most obvious kinds of organic disease – crippled legs, withered hands, blind eyes, palsy – all healings that were undeniably miraculous. 5. Jesus raised the dead. In Luke 7:11-16¸Jesus came upon a funeral procession as a widow went to bury her only son. Jesus stopped the procession, touched the coffin, and raised the dead man to life. In John 11, Lazarus had been dead for four days, but Jesus brought him back to life. The one common factor in all of Jesus’ healings was that they were done in public. Does God Still Heal? Select Scriptures

Jesus made it a practice in His ministry to heal the sick. One of the reasons that He healed people was to confirm that He was the Son of God (John 2:11; 5:36; 20:30-31; Acts 2:22). Once Christ’s work was finished, the apostles had the task of proclaiming and recording His message in Scripture. To authenticate their work, God gave them the ability to do miracles of healing. Nothing in the N.T. indicates that anyone other than Jesus did miracles of nature. The apostles never created food, stilled the sea, or walked on the water by themselves. The power to perform miracles was given to the apostles by Jesus (Matt. 10:1). God does heal! Genuine healings may come as a result of prayer and most often involves simple natural processes. Other times, God speeds up the recovery mechanisms and restores a sick person to health in a way that medicine cannot explain. Sometimes God overrules a medical diagnosis and allows someone to recover from a normally debilitating disease. Healings like that come in response to prayer and the sovereign will of God and can happen at any time. How did Jesus heal? 1. Jesus healed with a word or a touch (Matt. 8:6ff; Mark 5:25-34). There

were no theatrics, no special environment. 2. Jesus healed instantly. The centurion’s servant was healed “that very

hour” (Matt. 8:13). The woman with the bleeding problem was healed immediately (Mark 5:29). Jesus healed ten lepers instantaneously right on the road (Luke 17:14). Jesus did not practice progressive healing.

3. Jesus healed totally. When Jesus approached Peter’s mother-in-law who possessed a fever, He rebuked the fever and she was immediately well (Luke 4:39). In fact, she got up and started to wait on those present. There was no recuperation period. Her healing was instant and total.

4. Jesus healed organic disease. Jesus did not go up and down Palestine healing lower back pain, headaches, and other invisible ailments.

The gift of healing is gone, but God continues to heal.

“Brother, Can You Spare a Dime”

The men’s ministry is raising money to sponsor a bed in a

homeless shelter. We are asking you to donate your pocket change to

“Brother, Can You Spare a Dime.” A collection bucket has been placed in

the back of the auditorium. Your generosity is appreciated. For more

Eyeglasses Collection Program

Dottie Russelburg would like to collect eyeglasses and cases to

donate to the Owensboro Lions Club. They collect and prepare used

eyeglasses for recycling. A team of volunteers inspects, cleans, sorts by

prescription and packages several thousand pairs of usable eyeglasses

each year. Most of the recycled glasses are then distributed to people in

need in developing countries where they will have the greatest impact by

allowing people to have quality vision for the first time in their lives. Your

used eyeglasses can be dropped off in the foyer.

We will start with a worship-only format, with no Sunday School, Children’s Bible Time or attended nursery. Right now, we will not meet on Sunday nights.

Space will be limited to abide by social distancing guidelines. Every other pew will be blocked off so that people will not be sitting directly behind someone.

Worship participants will enter the center doors of the auditorium ONLY. Those doors will be propped open where people are not touching the handles. Once the service begins, the doors will be shut.

Mask Only Service will begin at 10:30am, people wanting to wear masks for the entire worship service can assemble in the MPR. Here are the details-

Everyone entering the MPR will enter either by the church office door or through the door from the north parking lot.

Pre-packaged communion, a contribution box, and hand sanitizer will be located in the MPR for your convenience.

Television screens will be set up for viewing.

In order to assemble in the MPR, you must call the church building and make a reservation no later than Thursday, October 29. Why? Space will be limited to ensure social distancing. When you call, we will want to know how many are coming from your family. Signs will be placed on chairs in the MPR with your name on it. Wednesday Evening Services-
