• Country: 799.380 km² • PopulaVon: 20.2 million • Coastline: 2.700 Km • Inland waters: 13.000 Km² • Total Fisheries producVon : 122.561 tones/2008 • Freshwater: 28.386 tons/year • Marine: 93.175 tons/year • Artesanal fisheries: 103.364 ton/year • Aquaculture: 1000 ton/year

MARICULTURE: CURRENT STATUS SHRIMP: • Late 80’s FAO pilot farm • 2 farms: 300 ha and 200 ha • Peneaus monodon and indicus • Earthen ponds • 800 ton/year; • Markets: Europe, Asia, South Africa

PROSPECTS • Inventory potenVal siVes for coastal aquaculture:
Preliminar results indicate total :
– 77, 592 ha for coastal aquaculture; – 32,124 ha cages; – 10,591 ha seaweed – several naVve species of finfish, crustaceans, bivalves with potenVal for culture

BIVALVE FARMING • Pilot mussel farming in 80’s • Assessment in south of Mozambique for mussel (Perna perna) and oyster farming
(AtlanVc pearl oyster Pinctada imbricata); • Trials to farm mangrove oyster
PROSPECTS OTHER SPECIES: • Tuna faiening • Lobster faiening • Mud crab farming
• Seaweed farming
• Small scale shrimp farming
