"Gifted students" means those students in public elementary, middle, and secondary schools beginning with kindergarten through twelfth grade who demonstrate high levels of accomplishment or who show the potential for higher levels of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment.”
Philosophy of FCPS Advanced Academic Programs
Children who have been identified for advanced academic services have the potential to achieve high levels of accomplishment, and this potential needs to be recognized and addressed.
In order to meet their needs and develop their abilities, these high ability learners require a differentiated curriculum that provides advanced learning opportunities.
Possible Areas of Unique Social-Emotional Needs in Advanced Learners● Asynchronous development ● Heightened areas of sensitivity and excitability (ex.
Intellectual, imaginational, emotional)● Perfectionism● Lofty goals and high standards for themselves
and others● Deep concerns about societal problems
FCPS Learning Model
A commitment to equity in opportunity, access, and achievement.
