Welcome to another edition of Overport Express. It feels great to be doing this yet again.

In this edition all I want to do is to thank everyone. For putting their money where their mouths are. If you don’t work in the media or marketing industry, you won’t know how difficult it is to sell a service. We basically go to advertisers with nothing but a story. A story of the great publication we’re putting together. And they will support you based on how believable your story is. In our case we’ve had great success, but we’ve also had detractors.

Some people out there thought this publication would never see the light of day. Sorry to disappoint you guys. I believe it was French author Victor Hugo who said: “All the forces in the world are not as powerful as an idea whose time has come.”

So our sincerest, most heartfelt thanks go out to the business owners that believed in us. So we want to say DANKIE, THANK YOU, JAZAK’ALLAH, SHUKRIA, SIYABONGA, ENKOSI, NANRI, DHAN'YAVADALU SHOT and to all the businesses that supported this publication.

We’d like to thank Raeesa at Make-Up by Rae, Asgar of AIA Repair Centre, Keep Calm Wellbeing Studio, Kaveshen Padayachee at LKD Financial Solutions, Ameens Butchery, Ayesha at X-clusive Collection, Ghulam Dresssmaker, Funky Fairy, BRC Security, e House of Hubbly, Sunrise Home Made, Vanilla Music, Nashlin Ramsamy at Exquisite Construction, Rodney Ethekweni Projects, La at Bella Donna, Hardware Express, Ace Batteries & Number Plates, Refresh Massage, Energetic Massage erapy, Dr. Kassim at Holistic Wellness Centre, S & S Tailors, Mr. Egypt and especially Mochachos Overport.

ank you all for your support and for helping us launch and establish OVERPORT EXPRESS.

If you’re a lover of seafood you’ve probably heard of chitosan before. But what Is Chitosan? - A Weight Loss Supplement to Block Fat

Chitosan is a substance commonly found in the exoskeleton of crab and shrimp derived from deacetylation of chitin.BETTER DETOX AND NATURAL FAT

BLOCKERTaking chitosan is said to have the power to flush unwanted toxins and waste products from your body producing a detox effect as well as naturally blocking fat. In addition to helping your body to block fat it is also said to drive out germs boosting your immune system as well.By helping your body flush out fat in your diet greatly reducing the risk of heart related diseases, chitosan also works to battle diabetes, food poisoning, and fight off cancer. For weight loss and dieting it is commonly used to inhibit the absorption of fat especially useful when trying to lose body fat.Due to the fact that chitosan is a dietary fibre, overdosing on chitosan can lead to diarrhoea so if you find yourself having complications such as this after taking chitosan reducing your daily dose is highly recommended.

What Are Some Easily Available Natural Sources Of Chitosan?

CRAB AND CRAYFISHCrustacean chitosan is said to be one of the highest quality chitosan sources around. It is primarily found in exoskeleton of crab and crayfish. Due to the fact that

there is no shortage of crab exoskeleton it is the select source of chitosan in manufacturing.

SQUIDSquid chitosan compared to that of crustacean chitosan is said to contain lower ash content and is colourless. It is said to be the premier source of chitosan used in medical application due to its quality.

MUSHROOMSFungi chitosan found in mushrooms such as the golden needle mushroom that is also known as Enokitake in Japanese is an easy way to block fat naturally in your diet. Frozen Enokitake is said to increase in chitosan content along the outer cell walls of fungi containing chitosan.

What is Diabetes?Diabetes is a condition where the amount of glucose in your blood is too high, and the body cannot use it properly. is is because your pancreas does not produce any insulin or not enough insulin, to help glucose enter your body cells or the insulin that is produced does not work properly also known as insulin resistance. Diabetes can affect anyone. When you intake food, your body turns that food into sugar or glucose. Your pancreas is supposed to release insulin. Insulin serves as a “key” to open cells, to allow the glucose to enter and allow you to use the glucose for energy. However with diabetes this system does not work. ere are different types of diabetes. Most common are type 1 and 2. Type 1 diabetes are more common in children. Type 2 is more common in adults. Gestational diabetes can occur specifically during pregnancy. Diabetes LADA is a form of type 1 that can occur in adults. Diabetes Mody, rare caused by a known genetic mutation. Double diabetes, this is when type 1 diabetic developed insulin resistance. Type 3 is closely linked with atzhemeimer's disease. Steroid induced diabetes, is type 2 brought on by long term use of corticosteroids. Brittle diabetes a form of type 1 that is very hard to control. Secondary diabetes occurs as a consequence of another medical condition. Diabetes insipidus a rare form of diabetes not related to diabetes mellitus. Juvenile diabetes refers to diabetes in the young.

What is Pre-Diabetes?Pre-diabetes is a condition in which blood glucose levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to be classified as type 2 diabetes. People with pre-diabetes are at an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes, unless they adapt a healthier life style that includes weight loss and more physical activity. Many people ask the question, can I stop pre-diabetes from developing into type 2 diabetes? e good news is that cases of pre-diabetes that are identified early, can be reversed, preventing them from

progressing into full blown type 2 diabetes. e two important factors to consider are making changers to your diet and appropriate physical exercise to your life style. Although some of the risk factors for type 2 come from genetic, there are ways to prevent. Lack of exercise and being in active often leads to pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Staying active decreases insulin resistance and helps the body insulin to be more effective.

Because type 2 diabetes is linked to high levels of sugar in the blood, it may seem logical to assume that eating too much sugar is the cause of the disease. But of course, it's not that simple. Studies do show that sweetened foods can up diabetes risk, but sugar alone isn't necessarily enough to cause the disease on its own. Your doctor will advice you how often you will need to have your sugar tested, depending on your type of diabetes. After you are diagnosed with diabetes, your doctors will advice you on the medication that you should take. It is important to remember the name of medication, how it is taken, and the reason for taking it and possible side-effects. Take charge of your life, lead a healthy life style.

Tomorrow's prevention starts today.

Does your home look, outdated and dull?

Are you bored of the colour on your walls?

All you need to bring back a fresh, vibrant and brand new look- is a new shade of paint. Paint can transform any room in your home. It is an easy way to give space a quickly yet impactful decorating make over. However one does not change the colour on the walls, too often. So choosing the right shade is very important. One way of describing your personality, is by walking through your home.

How to choose the right colour paint for the bedrooms? When selecting paint colours for the bedrooms,

while warm colours advance towards the eye and appear more attractive, creating a stimulating and cool effects. e hues from blue, green, through blue violet and mostly greys included, tends to recede producing a more relaxing and calming effect. If cool colours are not your cup of tea, warm hues that are light and subtle, such as soft yellows and pinks, can also cause a soothing effect. If you are a romantic person, and wants a romantic atmosphere, its best to stick with dark colours like olive, deep violent, navy or charcoal. e buzz about colour is usually called “colour psychology”. But the effects of colour are subtle and significant, physical and psychological. Colour use is important to us personally in our homes and the places of our work.

Start smallIf you are not sure where to begin with colour, experiment in a powder room or bathroom. If you are painting on your own, pick an area that is easy to do, so you can see the results sooner. Decide if you are happy with it, or make changes to it. Look at this process as an adventure. ink about your mood when selecting a colour consider the mood of the room. Do you want the feeling to be restful, dramatic or intimate? Soft cool colours and neutrals usually create a quitter feeling while stronger colours are for drama. Do you want your dining area to appear social able and welcoming, giving a comfortable feeling to guests? Warmer contrasting and somewhat bright colours add a social able atmosphere.

For the much fun part, that mum usually has fun doing-is painting and decorating the children's room. Quite often the colour of the wall will depend on the theme of the room. It can range from, hello kitty, with pink walls, ben-10 with green walls or Spiderman with blue walls. For the kids rooms, create an active and

exciting energy or an orderly restful feeling. e brighter the colours the more unrestful the child can be. When painting the kitchen, remember to use a paint that can easily wipe off splashes of oil caused by cooking.

e exterior of your home is important, choose a standard colour, this works best. Go for whites, creams, beiges and rust orange. Consider soft colours.

Remember to choose a paint of good quality, choose one that is going to last.

Add colour to your home! .

Not all of us can buy a brand new first car. So if you’re like most people, you’ve probably bought that first car already.. and it was a pre-owned vehicle. Mistakes may have been made in the buying process. So for the next generation of car buyers, here’s what you can look for to avoid getting bamboozled and get the best deal on your purchase of a used vehicle.

Purchasing a car is a big and important step. A large amount of money is involved. Striking a good deal on a second hand car and making the right choice can be nerve wrecking. With all the excitement of buying a car, comes a long and necessary check list. Remember you are not the first owner of the vehicle. Decide on the dealership that you will prefer the make and the model and probably the colour. You will need to check the fuel economy, reliability, safety ratings, and features you need and how expensive will it be to maintain it.

Check: Ÿ Any signs of inconsistent gaps between

panels or mismatched colours that could be a sign of extensive repairs

Ÿ Is the paint finish even across the car?Ÿ Any traces of paint spray on handles,

window seals or plastic mouldings?Ÿ Could the car's colour have been changed?

(Look under carpets and in other hidden areas in particular.)

Ÿ Any unusual looking welding under the bonnet or in the boot?

Safety Ÿ Are the tyres in good condition and all of

the specification and dimensions? Tyres with less than 3mm of tread will have to be replaced soon.

Ÿ Is the spare wheel or tyre inflator/sealant kit in serviceable condition?

Ÿ Are the jack and other tools present?Ÿ Do all the seatbelts operate correctly? Ÿ If airbags are fitted, check that warning

lights operate as described in the handbook normally they will come on with the ignition and then go out

Ÿ Do all lights and windscreen wipers/ washers work correctly?

Test Drive

Ÿ Do all warning lights operate normally? Lights will generally come on to test and then go out – unless there's a fault.

Ÿ Are the brakes effective or does it take a long time or a lot of effort to stop?

Ÿ Is braking even or does the car pull to one side?

Ÿ Any unusual noises when you brake?Ÿ Is the handbrake effective?Ÿ Any steering vibration or pull to one side?

DOCUMENTSŸ Check the registration documentŸ Is the seller the registered keeper shown on

the registered form

Ÿ Does the registration document have a watermark?

Ÿ Does the VIN (Vehicle indemnification number), engine number and colour match the registration document?

Ÿ Has the VIN number been tampered with?

Ÿ Does the fuel filler look as if it has been forced or replaced?

Ÿ Does the mileage, age and appearance of the car look consistent?

Ÿ Check recorded mileage on service records, MOT certificates and other documents.

Ÿ Does it look consistent with current mileage/condition and increase steadily year on year?

EngineŸ Any abnormal noises when the engine is

started from cold?Ÿ Does the oil warning light go out as soon as

the engine starts?Ÿ Any signs of excessive visible exhaust

emissions?Ÿ White water vapour from the exhaust is

normal while the engine is coldŸ Blue smoke isn't normal – that's oil burningŸ Faint blue smoke from diesels is OK but

black smoke is seriousŸ Does the clutch operate normally? A noise

when you press the pedal or a high biting point could mean that repairs will be required soon.

Ÿ Is the catalytic converter in good condition? Look for a recent emissions test, either alone or as part of an MOT. is will confirm that emissions are within the stringent limits applied to modern cars.

Ÿ Is there sludge on the underside of the oil filler cap? is could indicate poor servicing or predominantly short journey use.

Ÿ Is the oil level right? Too low shows neglect; too high could be a clue that the engine is using oil but it could just have been over filled in error.

Ÿ Has the cam belt been replaced according to the service schedule?

Exercise requires effort, carried out to sustain or improve health and fitness. Physical health can reduce the risk of developing diseases such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular diseases. Exercise also helps to decrease your weight. If you do not exercise your mussels become weak, you gain weight and your heart and lungs do not function as efficiently. Your joints become stiff and easily injured. Our bodies crave exercise, they are meant for movement. Have you ever the expression “Use your body or you will loose your body”- if you do not use your body, you will surely loose it. With the cost of living being so high, it is understandable that not many people can walk into a gym and sign up.

Walk yourself into better and healthier life style. At times, we all are enclosed in our comfort zone that we jump into our

cars and ride away to the nearest shop down the road. You would be doing your body well, by walking instead. All too often we use TIME as an excuse. Having to fetch the children from school or sitting in traffic just to get lunch. We look for a quicker route to save time, but come to think of it, we would have more time on this earth, if we gave our bodies exercise. No fancy equipment is needed and it will be saving you on fuel that you would normally use on these short trips. Many of us are guilty of sitting at our desks throughout the working day, taking small walks to the coffee machine or bathroom. As lunch hour strikes, lunch is ordered and delivered or one of the staff uses their car to pick up the lunch. Instead gather a small group of staff and walk around a block or two, your legs are probably craving exercise as much as you are craving your lunch. Fresh air and a few minutes outside the office, is also good. You will return refreshed for the balance of the day. However I have noticed some woman, walking with speed to do their errands as the lunch hour ticks by. If your days are busy and unpredictable, there is always after hours. One way to stay motivated and continue walking is by getting others to join you, form a small group. is way no one wants to let another down. Exercise also increases your energy levels and is good for your mind, body and soul. Your speed when walking comes from your arms swing them backwards and forwards as you walk. Swing them faster and you'll automatically speed up. And this movement tones your arms and shoulders. Goodbye to flabby arms. Another way to build walking into your daily routine, include taking the stairs instead of the lift. If you travel by a lift club or public transport, jump off a stop before and walk. Change how you feel, your mood and your life style and start walking.

Islamic banking is.. banking activity that is consistent with the principles of Shariah and its practical application in Islamic economics. A more correct term for “ISLAMIC BANKING” is “ .SHARIAH COMPLIANT FINANCE”

Islamic bank is an institution that mobilises financial resources and invests them in an attempt to achieve predetermined Islamically acceptable social and financial objects. It prohibits interest or usury .e principles of Islamic finance is established in the Qur'an.

e first and most important concept is that both the is charging and receiving of intereststrictly forbidden. Interest charged affects an entire economy. It jeopardises the well-being of everyone living in that society. When investors are more concerned with rates of interest and guaranteed returns than they are with the uses to which money is put, the results can only be negative. is is commonly known as . When Muslims invest their RIBAmoney in something, it is in their religious duty to ensure that what they invest in is good and wholesome. It is for this reason that Islamic investing includes serious consideration of the business to be invested in, its policies, the products it produces, the services it provides, and the impact that these have on society and the environment. In other words, Muslims must take a close look at the business they are about to become involved in. Islamic financial institutions are expected to provide special services to those in need.

Islamic banks provide interest free loans, for example if individual needs money to go to the hospital or university, the bank will provide something called . is is Qardhul Hasannormally given over a short period and the Islamic bank does not charge interest for that.

e final principle concerns the overarching concept of , the idea that all parties fairnessconcerned should both share in the risk and profit of any endeavour. To be entitled to a return, a provider of finance must either

accept business risk or provide some service such as supplying an asset; otherwise the financier is, from a Shariah point of view, not only an economic parasite but also a sinner. To ensure that these principles are followed, each Islamic institution must establish and provide itself with an advisory council known as a Sharia's Board. e members of Sharia'a Boards can include bankers, lawyers or religious scholars as long as they are trained in the Islamic law, or Sharia'a. PluggedSouth Africa's current triangular electrical plug and socket standard has a successor.Dubbed SANS 164–2 by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS), this “new” plug standard has been the “preferred configuration for new installations” since 2013.It has the same hexagonal profile as the “Europlug” commonly seen on cell phone chargers, but allows for an earth pin that is slightly offset from the centre of the plug. e adoption of SANS 164–2 – or ZA

Plug – as South Africa's recommended plug and socket standard caused a stir in 2014, as some thought they would have to replace the electrical sockets in their homes. However, the SABS explained this was not necessary. ough the ZA Plug might be the preferred standard, South Africans are still free to install and use sockets and plugs bases on the old standard. Playing the long gameWhile the recommended adoption of the ZA Plug is relatively new, the standard is more than a decade old. e current South African standard is based on the even older IEC 60906–1 standard, which was published by the International Electro technical Commission (IEC) in 1986.is international standard was originally developed in an effort to establish a global plug

and socket standard, but according to the IEC many commercial and political interests caused the initiative to fail. South Africa remains the only country in the world to have adopted the IEC standard as it was intended to be used. Brazil also uses the plug shape, but deviated from the standard by delivering either 127V or 220V mains using the same socket. While talk of adopting the new standard began in South Africa as far back as 1993, and a version of SANS 164-2 that dates back to 2006 is readily available online, the ZA Plug only appeared in South Africa's wiring code much later.e SABS previously told My Broadband that the first mention of SANS 164–2 is in version 1.8 of the “SABS standards for the wiring of premises, part 1: low-voltage installations

(SANS 10142–1)”, which was published in 2012. e SABS said the ZA Plug will be safer and will probably be cheaper than existing plugs when adopted. Another benefit of the ZA Plug is that you will no longer need an adapter for devices that use a double insulated two-prong Europlug.Energy expert Chris Yelland has welcomed this as he said such adapters are costly and often sub-standard.Despite the benefits of the new standard, South Africans will not be rushed to replace the sockets in their homes or the plugs on their devices. e SABS said the implementation of the new standard could take “20, 30, or even 50 years”.No deadline has been set for the new standard's implementation. “e status quo remains for now,” said the SABS.

Lots of people in our distribution areas rent accommodation. Here are some useful tips for when you make the move to new premises again.

Whether you are viewing a house or flat, it could be your home for a long time. So it is very important to check it out. Priorities will vary base don whether you’re viewing a house, a flat or just a room.

ings to check on the outside:Ÿ Does the outside of the

property appear to be in good condition?

Ÿ Does the property seem and safe and secure?

Ÿ Does the property have an alarm system?

Ÿ What is the area like? Is public transport available and within reach?

Ÿ What are the neighbours like? Is it a noisy environment?

Ÿ Has the property ever been burgled? Ÿ Are there any damages to the

building?Ÿ Are the doors and windows in proper

working condition?Ÿ Are the locks of good quality? Remember you are paying to rent this property; therefore you have to be satisfied and safe.

ings to check on the inside: Ÿ Is there any damp or flaking paint?Ÿ Are any repairs needed?Ÿ Is there enough storage place for your

belongings?Ÿ Is the wiring all safe?

Ÿ Check for loose wires and faulty switches.

Ÿ Check the bathroom, make sure the taps are not leaking, and that the toilet is in proper working condition.

Ÿ If the place is including furniture or electrical appliances, ensure that it is all in good condition.

Ÿ Money matters, so check the financial considerations correctly.

Ÿ e price of rent and what does it include?

Ÿ What other bills are there and what

are you liable to pay for?Ÿ How much deposit is required? What

conditions for the landlord deducting money from your deposit?

Ÿ What is the estimated running cost of the property?

Ÿ If anything needs to repaired, ask for it in writing, and if the landlord agrees to do the repairs, get that in writing too.

Ÿ Ensure that you check and record all the metre readings on the day you move in. ere are times of desperation, where a tenant needs a

place urgently and the landlord needs tenants just as urgent. More common with foreign nationals, who desperately need rooms.. In these cases a lease is not signed. e rooms rented to these people are usually in a terrible condition - sometimes without lights or water. It might seems a a win-win situation, but how can one live like that?

Is it possible that landlords are just renting off these properties to any one? Should an argument break between the two parties, without a lease agreement, how can the problem be resolved? Do things the proper and correct way. Know who and the kind of people you are renting out to. At the end both parties must be happy. So whether it is a shabby dark room or an upmarket place, a written agreement should always be in place.

Acupuncture is basically one of the most commonly used alternate or complimentary system of medicines which originated in India but given patronage by Chinese, thus becoming the inherent adoption of Chinese. “Acus” in Latin means needle and “Punct “is puncture.According to the theory of Acupuncture, there are 14 Primary Channels in our body in which there is a continuous flow of energy called Qi, the constituents of this energy being Yang (positive) and Yin (negative). In a normal healthy body Yin and Yang are in balance with each other, a deficiency or obstruction of energy causes the person to become sick with either Yin or Yang depletion. Acupuncture helps in removing this obstruction thus establishing an equilibrium. Acupuncture does not require anything to be injected or put into the body to fight a disease or develop resistance. e needles activate the body's resistance to fight out the trouble and keeps it healthy. Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine teaches a way of life in which staying healthy is the empowering desire. If you haven't found the remedy for your health problems, don't despair…Maybe it's time you tried Acupuncture!!!

ere are people today that have pursued a qualification, some in the process of studying and others that just have a matric certificate as their passport. Landing on the step of a job, is not easy. You might hear others saying “I have no luck in finding a job” But did you stop and ask the question, “what could I be doing wrong”? Sometimes the answers to your questions are within you. A few steps are required to polish up in order to land on your dream job.

Ÿ Remember, to be careful on social networks. People do check you out on social networks especially Facebook. It is hard enough to find a job, make sure your social networks present you in a positive light. You do not want to give an employer any reason to doubt you. Your reputation is important. Like it or not, but a social network can reflect badly on you professionally, so be conscious of what you associate yourself with online.

Ÿ It is great to have a qualification, but having skills and experience is better. Many employers would agree that they value work experience more. As much as a degree can help you stand out, employers are equally interested in employing a candidate with work experience. Quite often you would have to start at the bottom of the ladder before reaching the top. And internships are a great way of getting your foot in the door.

Ÿ Your Curriculum Vitae (CV) is important. Remember employers get many CV's on their desks daily; you do not have much time to make an impression. A CV is what usually gets you called in for an interview, so making an impression counts on the CV.

Ÿ You should tailor your CV to always keep it short. No employer has time to read long paragraphs. You do not want to risk the chance of sending a CV with long stories only to have the employer skim read through it. Using bullet points is a good idea. For a new graduate, two sides of an A4 no longer is fine. Including a picture is not necessary; it will be using up important space.

Ÿ Build networks before graduation is a great idea. Why wait until after graduation? Planning ahead is good. Approach people in the field you want to go into. Keep in contact with them. Ask them how they got into the field, what challenges they face etc.

Ÿ All work experience is relevant. Sometimes you get a job in a different field and that does not mean you have to omit it from your CV. You may have learned valuable transferable skills that can translate well

into another industry. Ÿ Action speaks louder than words; let your

CV tell a story. Do not just say “I am hardworking” “I am a team worker”. Instead include examples and experiences. After a good polished CV is handed in, you can be sure you to be called in for an interview.

Ÿ Research the company and employer. It works to your advantage to have knowledge of the company, what is done and required.

Ÿ Dress for success. Wear formal attire. No shorts or other revealing clothing.

Ÿ Arrive on time. This says a lot about a person. Try to be 15 minutes earlier as arriving early gives you time to get ready mentally.

Ÿ Be polite and offer warm greetings to whom ever you meet. Keep a positive attitude, smile and always make eye contact.

Ÿ ank the interviewer at the start and the end. Send an email or a short thank you

note. This won't guarantee you a job but it will give you an edge over others that don't bother to send thank you notes.

Ÿ e part every stresses about, is what will be asked? e question “Tell me about yourself?” seems easy, and a lot to talk about. Wrong. What is required is a quick snap shot of who you are and why you are the best person for the job.

Ÿ Why should I hire you? Another easy way to explain why you are the best person for the job, but back this up with what makes you

different. What your distinct qualities are.Ÿ Are you a team player? Almost everyone

will say yes. e best answer will be yes and why that is.

Ÿ What is your greatest weakness? Talk about your true weakness and what you are doing to overcome it.

Wish you all the best on your next interview!

EduTalk a few things you can do to streamline the process of getting into a career..

Whoonga is also known as nyaope or wunga. It is a street drug that has allegedly came into widespread use in South Africa since 2010. Mostly in impoverished townships of Durban, although it is claimed to be appearing in other parts of South Africa as well.

Whoonga is a fine white powder that is usually combined with marijuana, a small amount of heroin, rat poison and cleaning detergents. is cheap drug of R20 is used by dealers to lure youngsters who quickly get addicted. ese youngsters have little option of becoming “runners” for the dealer, at schools and in their neighbourhood, in order to feed their addiction. is drug is easily available.

Whoonga is highly addictive, even after only one hit and leads to violent side-effects such as anxiousness, aggression, excruciating stomach cramps, nausea, uncontrollable convulsions, slowing down of the heart rate and lungs. With only a small amount of heroin in the drug mixture, the effects of the drug quickly wears-off, leaving the poison and detergents to take over. Once the chemicals kick in, to end the pain addicts go back for more whoonga. Although this drug is cheap, addicts are usually too poor to afford several hits per day as it is needed. Addicts therefore commit crime to raise money to secure a regular supply. Anti-retroviral (ARVs) known as HIV/AIDS medication, is also linked to this drug. is results in a shortage of ARVs for patients. Other patients are willing to sell the medication. Free ARVs now serve as valuable for reasons other than its intended purpose, which is to save lives. Corrupt health workers and clinic staff also sell ARVs to the whoonga market. However these ingredients cannot be banned as they are legal substances. Young girls have turned to prostitution to secure money to feed their habit.

Crime levels have increased not just on the streets but in the homes of these addicts as well. Many parents have a fear as they set off to work on a daily basis, unsure what they could be returning home to. Often parents lock up their belongings to avoid it being stolen by their own children. is is a sad affair. Some addicts go to the extent of stealing food items and selling it at a cheaper rate, in order to feed their habit. No parent should have to fear their child or child's action.

Some businesses complain of these whoonga addicts sleeping or hanging out on their shop entrances. ey create a mess and leave a terrible odour of urine. ese addicts also interfere with the shop locks and windows and sometimes this leads to a break in. is results to a loss in the business, as some customers are afraid to go to shops that have whoongas addicts hanging around. ey become a nuisance, asking for money. is also leaves your vehicle in danger. e effects of whoonga last for about 45 minutes. In some cases people smoke whoonga not to get high, but to relief the stomach cramps caused by the intake of whoonga. It is believed that once the drug is taken, the addict does not

care about what is happening, it is as if they are in a total different world. ese addicts become shabby looking and untidy.

ere are many rehabilitations available for these addicts. However some of them do not want help. is drug is destroying lives, homes and families. Parents should speak out if their child is consuming whoonga and seek advice and help.

If you know anybody that’s addicted to whoonga and you really want to help them get cleaned up, please let us know so we can help you help them - [email protected]

WHOOWHAT EXACTLY IS

Kids are dying, parents are crying, stats are lying, govt not even trying,

- Trisha Singh

Road traffic safety refers to methods and measures for reducing the risks of a person using the road from being killed or seriously injured.

A speed hump is a ridge set intervals apart on a road surface to control the speed of a vehicle; sometimes referred to as a sleeping policeman. A speed hump actually forces a driver to reduce his speed. is could prevent serious accidents. Driver however need to see the speed hump in advance to avoid a sudden hump which can cause damage to a vehicle.

Speed humps MUST be painted so drivers can prepare for crossing it in advance. Also so people with poor eye sight can see it and so the hump is visible at night.

A bus usually carries standing passengers, and if the driver has to suddenly hit a hump, this could cause injury to standing passengers. Whereas if the hump is visible from a distance this can be avoided.

All humps in an area need to be maintained, as it is in daily use. People that come into your area are not used to the roads, and therefore need warning signs in advance.

In the recent weeks we have heard a lot about road accidents. If everyone take precautions and stay alert on our roads, obey road signs and stay within the speed limit, we all can arrive alive. e law also stipulates the wearing of seat belts. Wearing a seat belt reduces the risk of death in motor vehicle accident.

PASSENGER SAFETY TIPSŸ Always wear a seat belt, even when

travelling short distances.Ÿ Fasten the lap and shoulder belts across the

hips - do not place the shoulder belt under the arm or across the face or neck.

Ÿ Check seat belts periodically to ensure proper functioning.

CHILD PASSENGER SAFETYŸ Always buckle up your children, even for a

short trip.Ÿ Use a properly installed child safety or

booster seat.Ÿ Select a car seat based on your child's age

and size.Ÿ Do not travel with a child on your lap.Ÿ Sharing a seat belt with a child is dangerous.Ÿ Infants or young children should never be

left unattended in a car.Ÿ Children using seat belts should sit back

against the vehicle seat with knees bending comfortably over the seat edge.

It is always better to be safe than sorry. To prevent an accident, it is important to take precautions. As they say “Speed thrills but it also kills”. It is of utmost importance to follow the speed limits. Always maintain a safe traveling distance. This gives you enough time should you need to stop. Reduce your speed when approaching schools, narrow roads or rural areas where visibility is poor.

Remember that pedestrians and children come first. Sign boards and caution signs are vital; it is there to warn you about an accident prone spot, so that the driver can reduce speed of the vehicle. Signboards give clues about the road design so that the person behind the wheel can exercise caution.

Be vigilant. Be observant. Stay safe.
