In partnership with Purdue University College of Pharmacy, Office of Continuing Education, and funding through the Employer’s Forum of Indiana, Overdose Lifeline has developed healthcare clinician and layperson continuing education on Addiction / Substance Use Disorder with an Opioid Specialization.

Substance use disorder / addiction is a major public health concern in the United States.
Another 23 million are living in recovery. They are non-symptomatic.
Combined, 43 million Americans are affected.
20 million are symptomatic, or in active addiction.

Substance use disorder is a treatable, chronic medical disease involving complex interactions among brain circuits, genetics, the environment, and an individual’s life experiences.

Substance use disorder (SUD) or addiction is not a choice, and it’s not due to a lack of willpower.

With appropriate, clinically proven treatment, often including medication, many chronic diseases can be managed so that their symptoms do not impact a person’s health and functioning.

The Overdose Lifeline training and certificate program assist clinicians, first responders, and laypersons in building knowledge and competency in the underserved area - substance use disorder / opioid health crisis.
Allowing individuals across community sectors to work together more efficiently and effectively in prevention efforts and to better serve those affected.
