• Priority Focus Areas: 1) development of protected areas networks, 2) sustainable use of natural resources, and 3) poverty reduction among communities living in the surroundings of protected areas.

NUMBER OF PROJECTS: 21 (11 PIFs approved or pending; need to speed up PIF processing in Mauritania, Chad, Nigeria, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone, Togo, Benin (Trust Fund) + regional projects on capacity building and knowledge management with the WB)

• OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM: (1) the conservation of key biodiversity areas by strengthening the regional network of protected areas, (2) the sustainable management and use of natural resources in the production landscape; and (3) strengthening of the institutional and sustainable financing framework for ecosystem management.
