BROWNS’ 35th ANNIVERSARY (1978-2013) THANK YOU FOR YOUR LOYAL SUPPORT

THE TRADITION CONTINUES...

ERIC FIRST CAME TO LAKE OF THEWOODS on a fishing trip with hisfather, Doc Brown, in 1960 and it quickly became an annualtrip. Following his love of the area, Eric purchased Totem Lodgefrom the Salvadors in 1978 and the family made Sioux Narrowstheir permanent home in the winter of 1979. Eric decided toexpand in 1990 with the purchase of Wiley Point Lodge fromthe Gills and again in 1998 with the purchase of YellowbirdLodge & Chalet.

ERIC & SANDRAI fell in love with Lake ofthe Woods as a young boyduring my annual fishingtrip with my father and itbecame my dream tospend my days near thelake. I feel blessed that Iwas able to find a partnerthat loves the lake and thislife as much as I do.Sandra and I truly enjoyseeing our guestsreturning each year andshowing them throughtheir own experience whywe love the lake. After 35years of hard work we areproud to see my childrenthriving in their roles ateach lodge. We lookforward to passing on ourfishing rods (never beenused!) to my children andour grandchildren.

STEPHANIEOne of the best parts of my job is therelationship with my guests. Over theyears so many guests become morelike friends. Sharing in the memoriesand being part of the stories that eachguest takes home with them, it’s hardnot to see your guests as friends whenyou share in their life that way. Eachseason brings new guests and thepossibility of new friendships beingbuilt over the years.

DJI feel very lucky to havegrown up here on Lake ofthe Woods. From learningevery inch of the lake toworking each departmentat our three lodges, andthen ultimately having theresponsibility to take overmy own lodge (Wiley PointLodge), the experiences thatI have had over the yearshave made me who I amtoday and have given mesuch a love for what I do.For me, the most rewardingpart of my job is meeting

new people every day and hearingabout their fishing stories each nightat dinner—that never gets old! Icouldn't imagine doing anything else.

I WOULD LIKE TO START OUT BY SAYING THANK YOUto each and every one of our guests for joining us this season and formaking 2012 another good year. Thankfully, we did not see the smalldecrease again and instead saw a small increase which hopefully meanswe are on the road to recovery for us all. We would like to extend anextra thank you to all those loyal guests who came and supported usagain, as this meant more to us now than ever before! We really takepride in the fact that year after year 90% of our guests are returnguests to Totem Resorts, which says a lot about how people feel aboutour three lodges and outpost cabin.

We believe that the key to our success is how we strive for quality andservice and we believe in excellence. At each lodge we are fully staffedwith guest service and personnel who are happy to assist our guests inany way they can. In fact, we want you to leave with the feeling thatyou have received far more than you expected or could have imaginedpaying for. We like to provide our guests with a bunch of ‘little extras’and it’s all worth it when we see the same happy faces year after year. Our goal here has always been to make Totem Resorts exclusive, comfortable and affordable and our new all inclusive rates promise nohidden extras. We have never claimed that we are the cheapest lodgearound, nor are we the most expensive, but we pride ourselves onbeing the absolute best on Lake of the Woods or all of Canada for thatmatter! We pride ourselves on the very best guides, boats, out-of-this-world shorelunches, accommodations, service and not to mentionworld-class fishing!

As a father, who took the lodge over from his father 35 years ago, I amextremely proud of my children and wife for stepping into managementroles at all four lodges over the years. I enjoy watching them becomemore and more involved in the family business. My oldest son, Eric Jr., isputting his 17 years of experience in the industry into managing TotemLodge. My daughter, Stephanie, will be managing for her 16th year atYellowbird Lodge, and my youngest son, DJ, will be managing his 4thyear at Wiley Point Lodge. Sandra and myself will now be overseeingeverything, now that each of the three lodges is being managed by oneof my children. This really is a dream come true for us. We are a familywith the unique opportunity to work together, strive towards our goalstogether and share in our success together too. We look forward tohaving our two grandchildren stepping into roles much further downthe road.

Thanks again, everyone — we look forward tohaving you join us for another exciting season inthe year 2013.
