Reaching Out to People With Life Controlling Problems

The bus provides a safe comfortable place, for anyone from all walks of life that are some way linked to substance abuse, to come on board for a hot drink. We can offer advice, counsel, support and referral to other services for help if required. It is manned by trained staff and volunteers.

The bus is part of the work carried out by Teen Challenge North East Scotland.

We hope that you enjoy this first ever and long overdue Newsletter. We will endeavor to publish these quarterly from now on. It is a tremendous and awesome privilege to be able to have a mobile drop-in bus that is able to go out and make an impact in our local communities. We, as always, are really grateful and in-debited to everyone who faithfully supports and prays for this ministry. Also, this ministry just wouldn’t happen if it were not for so many amazing volunteers, helpers and staff members.

SPRING 2012

Transforming Lives Keith came to the outreach bus a broken and desperate man. However, after completing the residential programme at Sunnybrae his life has now completely turned around. This is a picture of his wedding day in March this year. Towards the end of his programme at Sunnybrae, Keith helped on the outreach bus giving hope to others.

Making a Difference Stephanie was the first lady to come on the outreach bus when it was in Buckie. She completed the residential programme at Benaiah and is now working and enjoying life. Stephanie (left) graduated this year.

The outreach bus is a safe and fun place for parents to bring their children. We keep a small selection of toys on the bus. Parents are therefore able to come along with their children and are able to chat and get support and encouragement from the staff

and workers.

Many young people come along to the bus for a time of fellowship and encouragement. A lot that we see are struggling with the results of binge drinking and dabbling with illegal substances. Some have started to go regularly to church and are now involved in healthy church based social activities. A few have also recently been baptized.

Aberdeen Outreach The Teen Challenge Support Group

& Bus Outreach

The Support Group meets every Tuesday, from 3.30-5pm at The Kings Community Church in King Street (Via entrance in Urquhart Road)

The outreach bus doesn’t currently go to any one location on a regular basis. However, it does go out on occasion; the last time being in April, this year, when it went out to Seaton for a whole weekend.

Teen Challenge’s Solid Rock Café and the Outreach Bus & the Apex Church in Peterhead have combined to introduce ‘Street Church’ to Peterhead.

‘Street Church’ which kicked off on Sunday, 22nd April will take place once a month at Apex’s all new centre on Peterhead’s Broad Street. And aims to reach hurting men and women from the local area, who have had their lives devastated by drug and or alcohol addictions.

In February we were delighted to work in partnership with Grampian Police with their Operation Hotspur which was a two-pronged approach to tackling illegal drugs and the associated issues in Aberdeenshire. After police raids, the outreach bus went out to Inverurie & Huntly to be available to help anyone affected by the police operations. Shortly after this we also started going out to Ellon on a regular basis.

Recent Events

Teen Challenge Mission In September last year we were really pleased to have the help of students (all former addicts) from the Teen Challenge Training Institute in Wales. The team worked tirelessly in Banff, Buckie, Fraserburgh, Macduff, Peterhead and also in Tillydrone in Aberdeen.

Pampering Event

Schools Work

Christmas Day Lunch In partnership with a church in Buckie, we were able to provide a Christmas day lunch (and entertainment) for anyone alone and who uses the outreach bus A few people came along from Banff, Fraserburgh & Macduff. For some, they also received their only Christmas present that year.

Low self esteem is often a major problem for those affected by substance misuse problems. In October last year we organized a pampering event for all those who come along to the outreach bus, hosted by the church where we park the bus. It was a memorable and special afternoon for the many that came along.

In November 2011 the outreach bus went out to Inverurie Academy to help students with a school project. These very intelligent young adults interviewed one of our staff members on the outreach bus for the best part of one hour with some excellent and thought provoking questions.
