Output Devices

The Most commonly used output device is the

monitor. Also known as the display screen or

simply as screen. The output from the monitor

referred to as the soft copy.

There are a wide variety of different monitors. The most common types are:

Cathode-Ray Tube, Flat-Panel Monitor, E-

books, Data projectors, and High Definition

Television

The most common type of monitor for the office

and home is the cathode-ray tube. These

monitors are directly on the system unit or on the

desktop.

Also known as Liquid Crystal Display (LCD).

Thinner and requires less power than CRTs

Also known as Ebook Readers, are handheld,

book sized device that display text and graphics.

Are specialized similar to slide projectors. These

devices however connect to microcomputers and

project computer outputs just as it would appear

on a traditional monitor.

Is a recent development in the merger of

microcomputers and televisions called PC/TV.

Delivers a much clearer and more detailed wide

screen picture than regular television.

Translates information that has been processed

by the system unit and present the information

on paper called hard copy.

There are a wide variety of different printers. The most common types are:

Ink Jet Printers, Laser Printer, Thermal Printer,

Dot-matrix, Plotters, Photo Printers

Spray ink at high speed onto the surface of paper.

This process not only produces a letter quality

image but also permits printing to be done in a

variety of colors making them ideal fro selected

special application.

It uses a technology similar to that used in a

photocopying machine. It uses a laser light beam

to produce images with excellent letter and

graphic quality.

Uses heat elements to produce images on heat

sensitive papers originally, these printers were only

used in scientific labs to record data. More recently,

color thermal printers have been widely used to

produce very high quality color artwork and text.

From characters and images using a series of small

pins on a print head. Once a widely used

microcomputer printers, they are inexpensive and

reliable but quite noisy.

Are special-purpose printers for producing a wide

range of specialized output. Using output from

digitizing tables and other input device. Plotters can

create map, images, and architectural and

engineering drawings.

Are special-purpose printers designed to print photo

quality images from digital cameras.

Translates audio information from the computer

into sounds that people can understand. The

most widely used audio output device are

speakers and headphones.

Combination of

Input and Output

Devices

Also known as facsimile transmission machine. Is a

standard tool in nearly every office. A machine used

for sending and receiving images and document over

telephone lines.

Typically combines the capability of a scanner,

printer, fax machine and copying machine.
