September 4. INTERFAX-CHINA - The price of 7-aminocephalosporanic acid (7-ACA), an intermediate for the production of antibiotics, has increased over the last couple of weeks due to tight market supply, according to a Beijing-based pharmaceutical information provider on Sept. 4. In June 2009, Fujian Fukang Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd., one of the country's major 7-ACA manufacturers, reduced its output because the Fujian provincial government tightened supervision over environment protection and pollution treatment. Last week, most companies sold 7-ACA at RMB 660 ($96.63) per kilogram while the prices set by Livzon Pharmaceutical Group Inc. and Joincare Pharmaceutical Group Industry Co. Ltd. was RMB 650 ($95.17) per kilogram. According to Healthoo, most major pharmaceutical companies, including Joincare Pharma, Shanxi Weiqida Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd., Zhuhai United Laboratories Co. Ltd., and Shijiazhuang Pharmaceutical Group Co. Ltd., raised the price of the intermediate to RMB 670 ($98.10) per kilogram. "Higher demand is another factor behind the price increase of 7-ACA," Zhou Jian, a pharmaceutical analyst from Healthoo, told Interfax on Sept. 4. Cefazolin, ceftriaxone disodium and cefuroxime sodium, which use 7-ACA in the production process, are included in China's national essential drug list, which was released on Aug. 18, suggesting that consumption of these drugs, and their raw materials, will surge. The essential drug list mostly comprises commonly purchased generic drugs that patients receive reimbursements for under their medical insurance. However, as the Chinese government intends to keep prices of essential drugs at a low level, the prices of raw materials of such drugs are unlikely to grow by a large margin, the analyst said. "The average price of 7-ACA is expected to continue rising in the next few months but should remain lower than RMB 700 ($102.49) per kilogram. The average price of 7-ACA was about RMB 800 ($117.13) per kilogram in 2008," Zhou said. -KZ Your trial will be ended at 11/28/2010, please contact us to subscribe. Price of 7-ACA in China rises on supply shortage

Shanghai. September 4. INTERFAX-CHINA - The price of 7-aminocephalosporanic acid (7-ACA), an intermediate for the

production of antibiotics, has increased over the last couple of weeks due to tight market supply, according to a Beijing-based

pharmaceutical information provider on Sept. 4.

In June 2009, Fujian Fukang Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd., one of the country's major 7-ACA manufacturers, reduced its output

because the Fujian provincial government tightened supervision over environment protection and pollution treatment.

Last week, most companies sold 7-ACA at RMB 660 ($96.63) per kilogram while the prices set by Livzon Pharmaceutical
