INSTALLATION

Important Safety Rules:

Thisappliancemustonlybeusedinawellventilatedarea.

Priortoassemblingyourappliance,thefollowingmustbereviewed.Compliancewiththefollowingshouldresultinsatisfactory appliance operation. This instruction manualshouldberetainedforfuturereference.Theinstallationmustconformwithlocalcodesorauthorityhavingjurisdiction.

1. The appliance is intended for residential and nonresidential outdoor spaces. The installation must conformwithNewZealandStandard5601“Gas Installations”.

2. Adequate clearance around air openings into the combustionchamber,clearancesfromcombustible materials,provisionsforaccessibilityandfor combustionandventilatingairsupplymustbe maintainedatalltimeswhentheapplianceisoperating.

3. Properclearancefromcombustiblematerialsmustbe maintained at all times. The minimum clearances are found on page 3.

Combustiblematerialsareconsideredtobewood,compressedpaper,plantfibres,plastic,plexiglasorothermaterialscapableofbeingignitedandburned.Suchmaterialsshallbeconsideredcombustibleeventhoughflameproofed,fire-retardanttreatedorplastered.Additionalclearancemayberequiredforglass,paintedsurfacesandothermaterialswhichmaybedamagedbyradiantorconvectionheat.

4. Theappliancemustbelocatedonasolidtablewhich shouldbesituatedonalevelandadequatefooting. Timbertablesarerecommended.

5. Thegasmanifoldsupplypressuremustberegulated at2.75kPautilisinganapprovedregulator(supplied withappliance).

6. Theappliancemustbeinspectedbeforeeachuse,and atleastannuallybyaqualifiedserviceperson.

a. Theapplianceareamustbekeptclearandfreeof combustiblematerials,gasolineandotherflammable vapoursandliquids.

b.Gasorificesandburnermustbekeptclearofdirt andcobwebs.Flowofcombustionandventilationair through the perforated portions of the appliance mustnotbeobstructed.Cleaningwithasoftbrush beforeuseandatleasteverysixmonthsis recommended.

c. Allgasconnectionsshouldbecheckedforleaks utilising a soap solution. NEVERuseaflameforthis purpose.

d.Theflamepatternattheemittergridshouldbe visuallycheckedwhenevertheapplianceisoperated. Ifflamesextendbeyondsurfaceoftheemittergrid orblacksootisaccumulatingontheemittergridor reflector,theapplianceshouldbeturnedoff immediately.Theapplianceshouldnotbeoperated againuntiltheunitisservicedandorrepaired.

e. Anycleaningagentusedontheapplianceshouldbe ofanon-combustibleandnon-corrosivenature. Warmsoapywaterisideal.Whilewashingthe appliance,besuretokeeptheareaaroundthe emittergridandignitionassemblydryatalltimes.If thegascontrolisexposedtowaterinanyway,do NOTtrytouseit.Theapplianceshouldberegularly cleaned and protected to reduce oxidation, ideally a covershouldbeusedwhennotinuse.

g. The emitter grid normally does not require cleaning andshouldNEVERbepainted.Thereflectormaybe cleaned,butneverpainted.

7. Thehoseassemblyshouldbeproperlylocatedoutof pathwayswherepeoplemaytripoverit.Thehosemust beprotectedfromcontactwithhotorsharpsurfaces bothduringuseandwhileinstorage.Thehose assemblyshouldbevisuallyinspectedpriortoeachuse oftheappliance.Ifexcessiveabrasionorwearis evident,orthehoseiscut,itmustbereplacedpriorto operating the appliance. The replacement hose assemblymaybeobtainedfromthedistributor.

9. Installationanduseofthisappliancemustconformwith NewZealandStandard5601“GasInstallations”.

10.Thisapplianceisdesignedtooperatewithastandard 9KgLPGcylinderwithApprovedCylinderConnection.

11.Thevalveoutletmustbemaintainedingoodcondition. Whenthecylinderisnotinuse,besuretocoveritwith adustcap.Aleaktestshouldbeperformedwithsoapy waterwheneverconnectinganewcylinder.NEVER use aflametotestforleaks.

12.TheLPGcylindermustbeturnedoffwheneverthe applianceisnotinuse.Whentheapplianceistobe storedindoors,theLPGcylinderandtheappliancemust bedisconnectedandthecylinderstoredinaccordance withLPGDangerousGoodsRegulations.

13.Storetheapplianceuprightinanareashelteredaway fromweatherconditions.Theuseofacoveris recommended.

SAFETY FEATURESTheappliancehasbeendesignedwithseveralsafetyfeatureswhichincludeatipoverswitchandaflamesafeguardsystemwhichmeansifthepilotgoesoutitwillautomatically turn off.

Regulator Safety Feature

AllQCCregulators(thepartthatattachestothegascylindertoregulatetheflowofgas)haveasafetyfeatureincludedthatrestrictsgasflowintheeventofagasleak.Youcaninadvertentlyactivatethissafetyfeaturewithouthavingagasleak.Thistypicallyoccurswhenyouturnonthegasusingtheappliancecontrolknobbeforeyouturnonthegascylindervalve.Ifthegasregulatorsafetyfeatureactivates,theappliancewilloperatewithreducedoutputasgasflowisrestricted.Thesestepsshouldbetakenfirsttoresetthegasregulatorsafetydevice:

1. Turngascylindervalveoff.

2. Turn appliance off.

3. Disconnect the regulator from the gas cylinder.

4. Wait 30 seconds.

5. Reconnect the regulator to the gas cylinder.

6. Leaktesttheconnectionusingasoapywatersolution. Ensurenobubblesappearbeforeproceeding.

7. Slowlyopenthegascylindervalvealltheway.Donot putexcessiveforceonthevalveatthefullopen position,toavoiddamagingthevalve.

8. Lighttheapplianceaspertheinstructionsprovided.

Anymodificationtotheappliancenotdescribedintheinstallation instructions may compromise the safety of thisappliance.Specialconcernisasfollows:

(1)DO NOTbypassthermocouplesafetyburner;

(2)DO NOToperateappliancewithouttheguardsor reflector;

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Connecting & Disconnecting to Gas Source

IMPORTANT: Before connecting and disconnectingappliancetogassource,make surecontrolknobisin‘OFF’position.

CAUTION: When the appliance is not in use, the gasmustbeturnedoffatthecylinder.

Familiariseyourselfwiththegeneralinformationandsafetyguidelines located at the front of this manual.

Check:

1. Thecylinderisfilled.Asloshingsoundwillbeheard whenshaken.

2. Thecontrolknobisinthe‘OFF’position.

Connecting

1. Ensurecylindervalveisinitsfulloffposition.

2. Checkforanydamagetoeitherthecylinderconnection orthehose.NEVERattempttousedamaged equipment.

3. When connecting the hose to the cylinder tighten the nuttoapositivestopbyhand.

4. Opencylindervalvefully.Ifaleakcanbeheardat either end of the hose turn cylinder off and tighten joint.Wait5minutesbeforere-testinganduseasoapy watersolutiontocheckthejoint.Ifbubblesappearthe connectionwillneedtobere-tightened.

Refer to page 6 for more detailed instructions on connecting the appliance to the cylinder.

Disconnecting

1. Ensuretheburnercontrolisinthe‘OFF’position.

2. Ensurecylindervalveisinthefulloffposition.

Forstorageandcylinderexchange,disconnecthoseatthecylinderonly,DONOTdisconnecthosefromappliance.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 6Ensure cylinder valve is in its full off position. Check for any damage to either the cylinder connection or the hose. NEVER attempt to use damaged equipment. Attach the regulator and hose to your gas cylinder. Tighten the nut to a positive stop by hand.

STEP 7Turn on the gas cylinder ensuring that the control knob on the outdoor heater is turned OFF at this point.DO NOT ATTEMPT TO LIGHT THE HEATER!!.

STEP 8Use a solution of soapy water (dishwashing liquid and water is fine). Brush it on or use a spray bottle as shown in the drawing. Ensure the connections have a good coating.

STEP 9aIf the connection is leaking, bubbles will start to grow in the soapy solution. If this happens shut off the gas supply at the cylinder.

STEP 9bTighten the connections using a crescent then repeat steps 7-8.

STEP 9cThe connection is gas tight when no bubbles grow around the gas connection.

LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS

1. TurnthecontrolknobOFF.Slowly openthegascylindervalve.

2. Pushinandturncontrolknob anti-clockwiseto“PILOT”position for30secondswhilstsimultaneously pushingtheigniterseveraltimes untilthepilotflameignites.Keep controlknobpressedfor15seconds thenturnthecontrolknobtoLOW. Ifthepilotflamedoesn’tignite immediately,turncontrolknobto OFFandwait2minutesbetween ignition attempts for gas to dissipate.

3. Formaximumheatturncontrolknob toHIGH.

4. Toturnoff,turnthecontrolknobto PILOT.Thenpressandturnthe controlknobtoOFF.

5. Turnoffthevalveonthegas cylinder and disconnect the cylinder.

Note:Iftheburnerflamegoesoutaccidentally,turnofftheapplianceandwaitatleast5minutestoletthegasdissipatebeforerelighting.Repeatstep1and2.Allowat least one minute to purge air through to pilot after connectiontoanewcylinder.

Manual LightingIfthesparkignitorfails,theburnercanbeignitedwithamatch.Wait5minutesforanyunburntgastoclearthenturncontrolknobto“PILOT”.Placelitmatchthroughholeatbaseofemittergridandatthesametimedepresstheigniterseveraltimesuntilthepilotflameignites.Keepthecontrolknobpressedfor15secondsthenturnthecontrolknobtoLOW.FormaximumheatturncontrolknobtoHIGH.

SAFE APPLIANCE LOCATIONS

SAFE APPLIANCE LOCATIONSThis appliance shall only be used in an above ground open-air situation with natural ventilation, without stagnant areas, where gas leakage and products of combustion are rapidly dispersed by wind and naturalconvection.

Any enclosure in which the appliance is used shall comply with one of the following:

An enclosure with walls on all sides, but at least one permanent opening at ground level and no overhead cover (see Example 1).

Within a partial enclosure that includes an overhead cover and no more than two walls (see Example 2 & 3).

Within a partial enclosure that includes an overhead cover and more than two walls, the following will apply:

at least 25% of the total wall area is completely open, and at least 30% of the remaining wall area is open and unrestricted (see Example 4 & 5).

In the case of balconies, at least 20% of the total wall area shall be and remain open and unrestricted.

The following figures are diagrammatic representations of outdoor areas. Rectangular areas have been used in these figures - the same principles apply to any other shaped area.
