Pine VS Redwood

Pine is 60 percent stronger than Redwood in the same application

Family owned and operated since 1995

Pine AdvantagesPressure-treated pine is substantially less expensive than redwood. While sealing every two years is recommend-ed, pine will not turn an unattractive blackish-gray color like redwood can over time if not sealed. It is 60 percent stronger than redwood in the same application even though both are classified as soft woods. Pine can be used for stairs and structural members unlike redwood. Pressure treated pine structures can resist rot for decades. Pine forests regenerate much quicker than redwood forests, so pine is a more sustainable natural resource.

Redwood DisadvantagesSustainability is an issue due to limited growth sites and slow regeneration. Redwood trees can take more than 80 years to mature. Redwood structures often need additional steel support brackets. This is because redwood can’t be used alone for structurally significant members or heavy traffic areas like stairs because it is too soft. Also, redwood loses its attractive cinnamon color and turns blackish-gray if a waterproof sealant is not applied on an annual basis. It also becomes susceptible to rot within five years.

At UltraBuilt Play Systems, we use MicroPro environmentally friendly weather resistant lumber for your piece of mind. MicroPro lumber comes with a lifetime warranty offered by Koppers PC Inc. against termite damage and fungal decay. This lifetime warranty is not offered by UltraBuilt Play Systems, Inc. but is a product of Koppers PC, Inc. The lumber used to create your playset is harvested and milled from U.S. forests that are managed in compliance with SFI standards to promote sustainable and responsible forest management here in America.

UltraBuilt Play Systems, Inc. warrants your playset to be free of defects in material or workmanship for a period of five years from the date of the original purchase. A one year warranty applies to all accessories and/or plastic components. UltraBuilt Play Systems, Inc. will replace or repair, at our option, any parts of the warranted item found by us to be defective in material or workmanship free of charge and returned to the customer, freight collect. Seasonal checks and surface cracks, not resulting in structural failure, are not considered defects in material and workmanship as they are a natural characteristic of all wood and are not covered under this warranty. This warranty does not include the removal or installation of the replacement parts. Any service work that must be performed on site does not qualify under the warranty specifications and will be the original purchaser’s responsibility. UltraBuilt Play Systems, Inc. does not warranty any defects or damages that are a result of improper installation, unlevel or inadequate soil bearing, abuse negligence of purchaser, neglect, vandalism, acts of nature, or unauthorized alteration or attachments to equipment other than UltraBuilt Play Systems, Inc. equipment. This product is designed for ground contact only and is not to be installed with parts below ground or built in water saturated areas. This warranty applies only to the original purchaser and is limited to residential and non-commercial use of the equipment.

• UltraBuilt Play Systems, Inc. assumes no responsibility for incidental and/or consequential damages, which may arise from the purchase or use of our equipment.

• Please supervise your children’s play activity and maintain your play equipment peridoically. “The Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends impact absorbing coverings instead of lawns under all play sets.”
