PRINCIPALS CORNER

Dear Parents/Guardians, Caregivers and members of our community,

School Priorities Glenella State School has a number of priorities for 2018. One of the areas of focus this year is the development of ‘Learning Walls’ in classrooms. All classes have these walls to support student achievement in English. It helps to inform students exactly what is expected of them for their assessment. Drop into the classrooms to check out what a ‘Learning Wall’ looks like for your children. At the start of the year teachers handed out Maths and English Basics. These provided parents and students a snapshot of the concepts being covered in each year level, directly aligned to the National Curriculum. If you do not have either of these, please ask for a copy. Classroom Disruptions Towards the end of last term we were noticing an increase in the number of classroom interruptions or children leaving school early. We understand that some things are unavoidable however students are actively engaged in the curriculum throughout the day and it is difficult for classes to complete all set tasks when children are not there. If it is at all possible we ask that classroom interruptions are kept to a minimum. School Zones Our school, like all schools, has a ‘School Zone’. The purpose of this is to ensure that vehicles adhere to the 40km speed limit. The time frames do not directly correspond to the times set by the Department of Transport for the supervision of school crossings. School Grounds During the holidays a number of trees were removed from the school grounds. We are working together with local organisations to replace some trees with more sustainable gardens. Our shade structure over the playground was completed also. A big thank you to everyone involved especially the P&C for their substantial contribution to the project and also the school Student Council. Fundraising Ideas At our last P&C meeting we discussed ideas for fundraising. If you have any great ideas please do not hesitate to contact me to discuss them. We would love to see as many new faces as possible at our next meeting on Monday 23rd April 2018. Have a top week. Sam
