EDDY EVANS
So, the story goes…. Sitting in my tinnie, with a new rod & reel baited, I
threw my line overboard & left the rod just resting in the boat. To my
surprise, a rather large fish took the bait, plus the rod & reel. All I wanted to
do was to get my rod & reel back. I upped the anchor & drifted backwards,
dragging a large gaff on the lakes bottom. I luckily hooked up my rod & reel
with my gaff & bought my rod & reel inside. I then realised the fish was still
hooked on the line. I reeled it in to find I had a 37.5cm bream on my line. My
biggest disappointment was there were no one to witness this happening.
You here of the one that got away, this one didn’t!!

PRESIDENTS REPORT
What a great Whale Festival celebration for 2019!
Thanks to everyone who made it possible by the caring Committee members, community volunteers, businesses and
organisation’s that worked together to ensure it’s success. Our stand, at the back of the field was a big tent, loaned to us by Linda
and Wayne Holding of Sapphire Marine and Automotive, thank you.
We had a BBQ run by Eddy and a great team of volunteers, what a good job they did too! Thank you to them all. The raffle this
year was worth $1500 and drawn on the day. Congratulations to Steve Bennett from Bendigo.
Unfortunately, the weather changed, so windy we had to pack up early otherwise I would have been flying through the air
holding the tent and joining the kite flyers.
It was good to see and the Rod Run and Northern Victorian Spyder Riders.
Everything overall went well on the day and I think everyone had a good time. I look forward to the 2020Whale Festival next
year!
Your President, Joyce Neath
FISHING REPORT
There has been a nice run of Snapper of late with some very good size fish coming in. Big Fish for this area. Hope, some of our
members got out there. Most fish have reportedly come from North Head to Leonard’s Island area. In the same area, Black Marlin
have been sighted and Yellow Fin Tuna have been sighted close in on South Head.
A couple of Kingfish have been caught on surface but they remain hard to find and elusive this year. Flathead are still patchy with
some anglers bagging out and others struggling to get a feed.
The rivers and lakes are starting to fish OK now. Whiting are starting to have a go, which is a good early sign. There is plenty of
Tailor around with some good, sized fish being caught. If you are surface fishing, take extra lures with you. Don’t forget Luderick is
‘Fish of the Month’ with plenty of them around. Get out there and have some fun!!
