A VISIT FROM THE WHITE HOUSE

A presidential communications officer for the White House, visited the "world's tightest house" in Dillingham when President Barack Obama came to Alaska. Tom Marsik, UAF professor of Sustainable Energy and his wife hold the world record for the most air-tight home. Built in 2011, their 1,150 sq. ft. home is less than half of the average size of new homes, which hit an all-time record of 2,306 square feet in 2012. Professor Marsik designed the energy efficient home to use a fraction of the energy used by traditional homes. His saves his family thousands of dollars each year and reduces their carbon footprint. The Home Energy Basics class teaches you the same tips the Marsik family uses to save money on their home heating and energy costs.
