Dear Woodstation Family,
Here we are in the third nine weeks! We have made huge gains the first half of the year and are using each day to prepare students for success. Our teachers have been assessing student progress to make sure all students are reaching their goals this year. Please remember that our Family and School Team (FAST) Conference Week is February 3-7. If you haven’t signed up for a parent-teacher conference, please contact your teacher. Teachers will be reviewing January Benchmark scores and updating you on your child’s progress. You will also learn what you can do at home to help your child reach grade level goals. Your attendance gets you an entry for our Dollywood prize raffle!
Our next Family and School Team (FAST) Group Meeting in classrooms will be March 19. This is a time to visit your child’s classroom and participate in an informative presentation given by your child’s teacher. You will learn more about end of the year grade level goals and what your child will be learning next year. If you have a student in 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade, you will also learn about the upcoming Georgia Milestones Assessment and how to help prepare your child for testing week.
If you have a child who will be ready to enter Pre-K next school year, please stop by our school office February 27- March 25 to pick-up a registration packet. Completing this packet enters your child into the Pre-K drawing that will be held April 28 at 9:00 a.m. Your child needs to be 4 years of age by September 1 and you must be a resident of Catoosa County in order to enter the Pre-K drawing. We are thankful for the nutritious lunch our Dining Hall provides our students daily. Lately, I've noticed the number of student lunch charges has risen dramatically. We currently have over $2000.00 of student charges that are unpaid. If your student is purchasing items in our Dining Hall, please make sure there is money in their account to cover the cost of the meal. If you currently owe money, please send payment immediately or contact the school to set up a payment plan. Thank you for your help with this. Go Generals!

It is such an exciting time in the library! We have a fresh coat of
paint, new carpet, and shelving on casters.
Woodstation has been awarded a Ben Carson Reading Room,
and it is starting to take shape!
A train depot - the entrance to the space - is under construction,
and the artist will be painting the mural in the library during the
week of February 10th. There will also be four train cars in the
space that students will be able to sit inside and read!
The train cars are scheduled for arrival in March, and we will
have a grand opening in April.
Please feel free to stop by and check it out.
“Making Allowances” Dr. Lane
When I was a boy, it was popular for children to earn money by doing odd jobs around the house and for neighbors. Chores such as mowing the lawn, taking out the garbage, feeding pets, maintaining an area of the house, running errands for elderly neighbors, babysitting, and others were ways children could earn some pocket money while also learning ways to be responsible. In many ways, it was a rehearsal for adulthood: “I do this and get paid that.” The pay was often called an allowance. My first chore for which I got an allowance was taking out the garbage. I was delighted to earn some cash that I could spend anyway I wanted, and it will not surprise you that most of it went to buy records. But what if I didn’t do my job of taking out the trash? Answer: I didn’t get paid. That wasn’t all. I also would hear from my dad, who would tell me that if he had to remind me to do my chore, that counted as “not doing the chore.” I learned to do the chore, because I wanted more records. Like most everything you want your child to be when he or she is grown, the character trait of responsibility has to be taught. Good teachers are patient, insistent, and consistent. Give your child a chore so that he or she can practice responsibility and be patient, insistent, and consistent when the
fail. With your help, he or she will grow into a consistently responsible adult (with lots of records!)
Our business partners help make learning possible and we appreciate everything they do for our school!
Please remember our partners when you are out in the community and thank them for supporting
Woodstation. If you’re interested in partnering with us, we’d love to have you join us at our next partnership
