Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. Aren’t all PVC and vinyl fences the same?Absolutely not. Many PVC fence products today still utilize recycled plastics and reused, reground materials in the first 80% of the material, which is much less costly to produce. However, their products will eventually fade, crack, yellow, and become brittle. They will become dirty and grimy due to the buildup of static electricity in the recycling/regrinding process; this process attracts dirt and sticks to your product. You will need to clean and power wash these lower grade fences, NOT OURS! We choose to extrude ourselves with PVC fences and PVC rails containing the heaviest and strongest weight pure vinyl material. Liberty Fence constantly strives to make the best PVC fence products in the industry today. As a homeowner, what does this mean? It means that your PVC fence made by us will have more elasticity, be able to take more of an impact, and move/flex with weather and wind conditions without cracking. Purchasing a PVC fence for your home is an investment. Before you buy from another company, why not actually physically compare our PVC fence products to that of our competition? Wouldn’t that make the most sense before you commit?

Q2. What is Liberty Fence’s product made of?The base ingredient is rigid PVC (polyvinyl chloride) modified to provide superior impact strength and ultraviolet (UV) resistance. The formulation is similar to that of vinyl siding which has a long history of providing long-term durability and structural integrity.

Q3. Is Liberty Fence’s product re-cycled plastic?No it is not. “Recycled" refers to post-consumer or post-industrial materials coming from the waste stream. PVC can and is being recycled by other fence companies on Long Island. Liberty Fence does not use the waste stream as a source. Recycled products are made of anything that was formally plastic: bottles, credit cards, siding; these do not perform well with temperature change. After 3 years of the inner plastic to cure, which leads to easy cracking and breaking of the recycled product. All of our products are pure virgin vinyl and fully warranteed by us.

Q4. Where are Liberty Fence products made?All of Liberty Fence PVC products, including the post caps, are made right here on Long Island by Long Islanders. Our products, unlike some of our competitor products, are made here in America: not made in China. Our products are lead free.

Q5. How long does it last?Our 100% pure vinyl PVC fence products will last a lifetime and beyond. After your PVC fence is installed by us, we actually give you a written transferable lifetime warranty which covers our PVC products. Our labor warranty is the best in the business: 15 years. The best PVC fences and rails are backed by the best warranties. Compare our warranties to our competitors and you will see a difference. When you purchase from Liberty Fence you are dealing directly with the manufacturer who has been in business for nearly 40 years. Other companies can’t offer you this benefit. Especially compare our labor warranty to our competitors. One of our competitors only offers 10 years and another only offers 1 year; that’s right, 1 year on labor. Other small companies don’t warranty at all. Isn’t your hard earned money worth more?

Q6. How long has Liberty Fence been in business?Liberty Fence has been in business at the same location since 1976. Family owned since inception, you can be assured that we will continue to be in business for a very long time. The majority of our employees have been with us for 7 years or more, and as we continue to grow, we add more employees. Our employee turnover rate is extremely low. In other words, you are working with a very stable company.

Q7. Will my PVC/vinyl fence turn yellow or green if I purchase from Liberty Fence?No. Liberty Fence PVC products have a lifetime warranty against abnormal discoloration and have been field-proven to maintain their color. We purchase only 100% pure virgin vinyl for all of our fence components. These components will not change color as lower grade products do. Liberty Fence’s products contain 10 parts titanium dioxide (TI02), which prevents ultraviolet degradation. All Liberty Fence products are warranted for the lifetime of the original consumer purchaser.

Your vinyl fence cost is a one time investment since there are no maintenance or repair bills. Wood or metal fences are less expensive in the first few years, but eventually will accumulate costs and become more costly than your maintenance-free vinyl fence. Purchasing a PVC fence to add beauty and value to your home is an investment. It is a decision that demands careful consideration.

Q8. Can vinyl fences break?Anything can break. However, our PVC fencing will not break on its own when installed properly. Planks, pickets, posts and rails are easily replaced if damaged from a car or a fallen tree.

Q9. Will the gate hardware rust and stain my new fence?Not when Liberty Fence does your job. We use all stainless steel fasteners and screws to ensure no rust marks on your new fence.

Q10. Does PVC /vinyl become brittle in winter?As with most PVC products, PVC fencing will become less flexible in cold weather conditions; however, it will not break or crack unless subjected to an unusual impact. It is normal for quality PVC materials to expand and contract during temperature changes. Our products have been engineered to accommodate normal temperature swings and are backed by our exclusive lifetime warranty. Recycled PVC will become brittle in Winter and crack/break very easily with little impact.

Q11. Is the fence graffiti-proof?Although not considered graffiti-proof, our PVC fencing is easy to clean and paint comes off with very little effort. Regular paint thinner works very well. For stubborn stains, use small amounts of Xylol paint thinner.

Q12. Will I ever have to paint my new vinyl fence?Never. Your purchase is fully backed by our exclusive written warranty. There should be no reason to paint your Liberty Fence product. If you do decide to paint it, an epoxy-based paint needs to be used in order to adhere to the smooth vinyl surfaces. As with any painted product, it would have to be repainted in time. However, any painting of your Liberty Fence product voids your lifetime warranty.

Q13. How do I clean my PVC/vinyl fence?Cleaning is very rarely needed when dealing with vinyl. If a cleaning is necessary, it’s as simple as hosing it off with your garden hose, a brush with detergent, or even a mild bleach solution. For more stubborn stains, a product similar to Soft Scrub may be helpful.

Q14. Will it mildew?Vinyl is a difficult surface for mildew to grow on. Only under the wettest conditions will mildew grow on vinyl. If mildew does occur it can easily be removed with warm water and a brush.

Q15. Will my PVC/vinyl fence catch fire and burn?PVC has a high flash point of 900 degrees F and does not readily ignite. It is therefore categorized as being “self-extinguishing”.

Q16. Do PVC/vinyl fences contain LEAD?Liberty Fence products do not contain lead. Many other fence companies in the Long Island area choose to use PVC resin that comes from China: solely because it is less costly to purchase, and cheaper to manufacture with lead based resins. Lead based resins are banned in our environment, yet others still use it regardless of the environmental and health hazards associated with lead contamination. Liberty Fence does not. We believe that the best and safest products are produced right here in America.

Q17. Why is PVC/vinyl fencing so much more expensive than wood?Very simply, it’s not! Although your investment is more initially, this is where your expense ends. The cost difference is quickly eliminated once the substantial cost of continuous maintenance of a wood or metal fence is considered. PVC fencing is the economical way to go, confidently saving you time and money with a fence backed by a lifetime warranty.

Q18. Why does PVC/vinyl fencing not come in more colors?The main ultraviolet inhibitor, titanium dioxide is a white pigment. Therefore, it is difficult to obtain a dark color while having this significant amount of white pigment. Dark colors also absorb heat which distorts the fence construction and coloration of the products.

Vinyl wood panels are made from a proprietary blend of polythylene and contain up to 25% recycled material. No trees are cut down for the purpose of manufacturing our fence.

Our panels contain UV-12 inhibitors for a lifetime of vibrant colors. Vinyl wood polymers have been tested to withstand extreme weather conditions with little to no fading.

Vinylwood panels will not warp, fade, or crack and never need staining. They withstand temperatures from -40 degrees F to +140 degrees F, and are unaffected by water or salt spray. They are resistant to any negative organic processes.

There are no reflective or shiny look, giving our panels a genuine wood finish guaranteed.
