Dear Friends of Zion, September brings a lot of changes in our lives. Children are back in school and parents get back into the regular family routines. Our church also sees changes in the month of September. On Sunday, September 13th, our worship time goes back to 10:30 AM, with Sunday School at 9:15 AM. September 13th is also Rally Day for our congregation. It is good to get back to Christian Education for both our children as well as the adults. There will be a pot luck luncheon after our Rally Day Service. I hope to see a good attendance. We need to take time to be together and strengthen the bonds of our Christian family here at Zion Lutheran Church. The church family can be a good support group and a source for spiritual encouragement. But we need to spend time with each other, talk to one another, and get to know things about each other. Confirmation Classes will be resuming once again. These are for young people from the 6th grade and up for the purpose of preparing them to properly receive the Lord's Supper. We also study the basic teachings of the Bible as presented in Luther's Small Catechism. There will be a Parent Orientation on Monday, September 14th, at 7:00 PM. We will have two adult Bible Studies available...one on Sunday Morning at 9:15 AM, and the other on Wednesday Morning at 10:00 AM. Dear Friends of Zion,

September brings a lot of changes in our lives.

You don't need to be an expert to come and be a part of the discussion. I find myself learning quite a lot with the discussion and insight that is shared.

Our Little Zion Preschool will be back in session. Many of our members don't realize the many families who enter our doors during the week so that their children can receive an excellent Christian preschool education. Our preschool is a wonderful mission for people outside of our congregation. Every member of this church should be grateful that we can touch so many lives.

In September we will also be seeing more publicity for our annual Scarecrow Festival, which will be held on October 17th. I hope you will consider to be a part of it. It has been very successful in drawing people from the community. With your help and support, it can grow even larger.

We also have Ladies Aid, Men's Breakfast, and choir. These are all fellowship opportunities here at Zion. May our Lord bless the mission and ministries of our church!

Prayer MinistryAs our children start a new church and secular school

year our focus is our youth and their education.

Every parent knows that in a blink of an eye any child goes from infancy to adulthood. But in actuality it is 18 years or so. In that time these tender plants will be influenced by family, church, and the culture. Depending on whose voice they hear will determine the kind of citizen and leader they will become. Whether they will be givers or takers. Followers of Christ or not. Deut. 6:7 commands parents to make every opportunity to impress God’s commandments on their children. Timothy had his mother Eunice and grandmother Lois to teach him the scriptures.

Parents and the church must make the most of their time with our precious children; otherwise the influences of the world (peers, TV, rock stars, etc.) will be all too happy to influence them.

LET’S PRAY:

That parents will use godly wisdom in training their children

Educators will provide a nurturing learning environment without any hostility to Christian ideals

Parents will be aware of and appropriately deal with any negative influences on their children

Parents will lead by example and place a high priority on church and Sunday school attendance, prayer and reading the Bible

All children will be valued- even those with learning, emotional or physical handicaps

Prodigals will be welcomed home Children will honor their parents Our children will be safe from abuse, predators, bullying

and sex trafficking Our children will not use drugs or alcohol and be

responsible drivers Children will be salt and light at school and at play

Remember

We have a Prayer Chain-- Call Maxine Leiler 860-349-3591 or email Linda Manthay to ask for prayer or to be added to the mailing list.

If you are the type of person who is somewhat private about circumstances in your life, but would still appreciate prayers for a particular circumstance, you should contact Pastor Hass or one of our church Elders. By doing this, you are assured that your privacy will be protected.

Zion Lutheran Prayer Chain (Update by Maxine Leiler)

Our prayer chain was started in 2008 after praying about and researching other churches ways of encouraging members to pray for each other, especially in emergency or difficult times. We are grateful to God for answering our prayers.

A recent prayer was started with “I would like to thank God for our prayer group and all the answered prayers He has

given us throughout the years, and thanks to God’s continual guidance/blessings and love in our lives……” Another was “Pray for……..having surgery tomorrow.”

The beginning guidelines have remained the same, though I am sorry we have not republished them periodically.

The Prayer Chain is available for immediate prayer request. To make a request, you can email it to Linda Manthay at [email protected]

If you prefer the phone you may call Pastor, or Arlene at church, or Maxine Leiler at 860-349-3591. We will pray and pass the request along to the rest of the pray-ers. Most today prefer email, but we call those who prefer to be called.

Philippians 4:6, “ Do not be anxious, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

James 5:16….”Pray for one another….the prayer of a righteous man has great power…”Suggestions for members of the prayer chain:

Write prayer requests in a notebook to be sure to pass it on correctly, and to be able to look back and note answers to the prayers. Write the request and pass it on as given. The goal is to give enough information to pray intelligently—not to solve or discuss the situation with anyone except God.

There are currently about 25 people receiving emails and two that prefer phone calls. If you would like to receive prayer requests and pray for our members and friends, just write your name and number or email address on the signup sheet on the bulletin board.

If you want prayer that is more private than the Prayer Chain ask Pastor, or an Elder.
