From the Office of Mission Advancement “Come to me, all you who are weary and carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.” Matthew 11:28–30

Generosity is not a burden, but a liberating experience. It liberates because the generous person is walking in the yoke with Christ, sharing gifts and challenges.

Based on reflections prepared by Fr. Thomas Gentile and the Office of Mission Advancement.

July 5 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time Zechariah 9:9–10 Romans 8:9, 11–13 Matthew 11:25–30 Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Question of the Week: Adult: When has Jesus refreshed you when you felt burdened by problems?

Child: What burden do you need Jesus to help you carry?

Stewardship Reflection

The theme of humility is central to our readings today. God Himself is a humble God, so if we wish to follow Him as Christian stewards, we too, must be humble. In fact, humility is key to the stewardship way of life, and to a peaceful and fulfilling life.

In our Gospel passage from Matthew, Jesus Himself speaks to the Father of the privileged role that humble souls play in God’s plan of salvation. “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to little ones.”

What does it mean to be a “little one”? It means that we acknowledge we don’t have it all figured out, but that we are very much in need of a savior. It means we recognize that all we are and all we have been given is a gift from God. It means we embrace the stewardship way of life.

It is not easy, but deep peace and consolation come with this way of life. Jesus offers these warm and encouraging words to entice us to embrace it. “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.”

Let us resolve to follow in the footsteps of our Savior, embracing the humble path of stewardship. It is the path that leads to peace here and now, and ultimately leads us to heaven.

Stewardship Reflections by Catholic Stewardship Consultants

Dignity Beyond the Debate What does it mean to love our neighbors in the midst of such a divisive climate? Catholics are called to bring the best of ourselves and our faith to the public square—and yet today, many shy away from such involvement because our national and local conversations are filled with anger and harsh

language, often directed at people themselves. As Catholics, we must model a better way. We invite you to model love for neighbor by pledging to Civilize It and committing to civility, clarity, and compassion this election year. Civilize It: Dignity Beyond the Debate is a non-partisan call to focus on the dignity of all people, even those with whom we disagree, and to put faith in action. Make room in your heart for those with whom you disagree and pledge dignity beyond the debate today at CivilizeIt.org!

Holy Land Virtual Tour The National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM) will host a virtual Holy Land Tour on Monday, July 6 at 1:00 PM. Three counties in central Kentucky are known as the “Holy Land” due to their role in the spread of Catholicism to the American West. Learn about this interesting history, visit the Archdiocese Museum, and participate in a “Talk with the Experts” after the tour. This is a great way to get your small group together for some education and inspiration. The cost is $30. Groups can view the events together via ZOOM or purchase individually. Please contact npm.org/two-pre-convention-events-left for more details.

Mentors for Refugee Students Catholic Charities of Louisville is looking for volunteers to serve as mentors for refugee students. Mentors will help refugee students reach their academic and personal goals while participating in a cultural exchange. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to be a positive role model for a student during a time of change and uncertainty. Interested volunteers must have completed the safe environment training and have a background check on file with their parish or the Archdiocese. Mentors are asked for a one hour per week commitment, which can be done virtually at this time. Interested? Please contact Katie Norton at [email protected] or call 502.636.9263.

Food Baskets Our Lady of Lourdes Youth Ministry & the Adult Faith Formation Team are joining forces to host a drive-thru collection on our campus for the La Casita Center. In case you are unfamiliar with the center, La Casita’s mission is to support the well being of Louisville's Hispanic community through education, empowerment, advocacy, and wellness. Fr. Jim Flynn,

our former associate pastor and speaker at our Legacy Dinner, has long been a supporter of the La Casita Center. Visit www.lacasitacenter.org for more information on the work they do.

Please bring your donations to our drive-thru drop off at the stage door (#18) behind the gym on Saturday, July 11, 9:00 AM–1:00 PM. To stay safe and socially distant, you can stay in your car while our team of volunteers collects the donations. Please donate any of the items listed; we will assemble the baskets ourselves to make sure each bag has the required items. Please join us in helping serve some of the most vulnerable members of our community. We hope to see you at door #18 on July 11!

A Reminder The state of Kentucky has stringent laws regarding fireworks. Fireworks with

warning labels that include terms such as “explosive”, or “emits flaming pellets” are prohibited; this includes anything that flies or explodes, such as firecrackers and bottle rockets. The Archdiocese of Louisville DOES NOT ALLOW fireworks on church property. We appreciate your cooperation! Thank you.

Family Ministries Marriage Moments Although the coronavirus has been hard on everybody, it is especially difficult for those who live alone. Cherish the companionship you share. Who do you know who doesn’t have someone at home to talk with? Give them a call.

Parent Pointers “Although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to little ones.” (Mt. 11:25) Usually the parent is the teacher of the child. But today ponder what you can learn from your child. (playfulness, trust, technology...)
