At His Ascension Jesus told the disciples, firstly what they would be and secondly, what they would do. They would be witnesses, those who having seen the event and the person could testify accordingly. But secondly they were called to do something. They were called to “Make disciples.” Down through history this latter aspect has become known as discipleship. What is a disciple? A disciple is a student, an apprentice, someone who studies under a given teacher, learning from them and becoming like them. That’s why we talk of the 12 “disciples!” Every follower of Jesus is called into this lifestyle - of learning from and becoming like Jesus. In our case we don’t have the pleasure of Jesus’ literal presence to do that, but we do have the Holy Spirit, who, as Jesus told us, teaches us “all things concerning Him”. There are numbers of ways this occurs. Through sermons, through reading, through bible study both personal and collective. In this latter context, small groups are really important. Discipleship is a life style we are all called to and which operates for the whole of our life until the day we see Jesus “face to face,” as John puts it. Then, and only then, will it be complete. The Anglican Overseas Aid Appeal ...to Assist Indonesia

On Friday 28 September an earthquake and tsunami affected areas of Indonesia and many were killed or displaced and are in need of support and resources. The disaster has put the area in a state of crisis. The people affected find themselves in a desperate situation with immediate needs of food, safe shelter, basic health services and safe drinking water and sanitation. This is particularly the case for the elderly, children, pregnant women, and those living with a disability. Donations will bring immediate relief to those suffering from this disaster. If you would like to find out more or would like to donate to this emergency appeal please visit https://anglican overseas aid.org.au/Indonesia-tsunami/

News from S I am THANKFUL for: • Growth in language and cultural understandings. I'm thankful for the patience and kindness of language teachers, colleagues, neighbours, friends, and strangers who interact, guide, nurture, push, and encourage me in these areas. • A successful visa run and a refreshing mini holiday at the end of September. It's great to be home again with a new visa! • Local believers' deep trust in the Father within the persecution, discrimination, and tragedies, as well as in the joys. Gathering with and learning from local brothers and sisters is deeply enriching and encour-aging. They are shining like stars! I am HOPING for: • A safe delivery of my language helper and her husband's first child • Safe travels, protection and building of trusting relationships dur-ing our education and language project. Give thanks for this incredible opportunity! • Wisdom, ideas, and good team relationships as I have recently joined the Executive Team at the language school. This includes training national teachers, working with clients, and developing/reviewing cur-riculum, programmes & policies etc.

Vision Sue is collating all of your helpful reflections on what you believe God is calling us to as a parish. The church leadership will continue to work on producing a document for you to peruse and pray about over the next few months. We would like to thank you for the time you have spent in prayer regarding this and for taking the time to talk this through both individually and in groups.

Baptism Follow-Up need cards. We currently send cards on the anniversary of a baptism for the following seven years. That requires a lot of cards and stamps. If you are able to help out with a donation of cards or stamps please hand to Natalie at St Chad’s or Elisabeth Crombie at St Aidan’s. Thank you.

Christmas Child boxes This year we contributed 138 boxes to Operation Christmas Child. This is

a fantastic effort so many thanks to all those who filled boxes with a little bit of Christmas Joy for children who would otherwise not

receive anything.

Changes to Access at St Aidan’s and St Chad’s Over the past few months, the Parish Council has discussed the need to change the way we administer keys. With volunteers losing keys and the cost of replacing all of them each time this happened, it was decided to put a new system in place. Boxes with codes have been placed on the outside of the Church (one for Church and another for the hall). Instruc-tions of how to use these will be communicated and the combinations will change on a monthly basis. At St Chad’s, the code box and the alarm will have the same combination. Don’t worry though, as this will not be put in place until November and those who need access will be given the appropriate codes. Those who have keys, will be asked to return theirs and they will be recorded against the key register we have. There will also be a change to the office door at St Chad’s. A combination lock will be installed and the code will be given to those who need to have access to this space.

Wanted Wanted Wanted Morning tea helpers are desperately needed for the 9:30am service at St

Chad’s on Sunday mornings. If you think you could help out once a month with this duty could you please talk to Sue, Jaqueline or

Marguerite. Thank you.

Mini Market on March 16 Over the past few months, the Parish Council have deliberated over

whether to hold another fete. It was decided that we could not manage

a large fete, but could downsize on what we have done and hold a Mini

Market instead. Natalie Allinson and a team will be overseeing this and

will be recruiting very soon.
