Young Adults

Dear Parents,This Sunday-October 4th, the

Religious Ed classes will participate in the Helium Balloon Rosary, led by the junior high students. The KG-6th grade students will each receive a glow-in-the-dark rosary to take home.

We are asking that you come join your children at 10:35 a.m. in the elementary school parking lot where the balloons will be released for the closing activity. We ask that all children leave the event with their parents after the release.

Thank you for parking on the street or in the Church parking lot so that the cars will not create congestion as the children move about to release the balloons from the Notre Dame Elementary/Youth Center parking lot.

Sincerely,Sister Ginny

• • •Twenty-seventh Sunday, 2015Sister Ginny says…Most of us like to jump into water; To catch flying leaves when strong winds blow.To walk in puddles made by the rain; And make lots of things out of falling snow.We like to touch fuzzy kittens,To feel the sand in the sand box at home.We like to mold clay with our handsAnd feel how smooth is glass or chrome. All of these things tell us:There’s a special gift called “ touch.”We love to reach out and feel different things. It’s gift that means so very much.Jesus knew about this special gift.He used it every day.He reached out to touch people.Bringing them healing in every way.Even when little children were brought to him,And disciples didn’t want them near,Jesus put his arms around them for hugs.To show that they were very dear.Remember that you are very dear to Jesus.Imagine this week that you are in his arms.

Please contact Greg Brown at 940 247 1721 Devotions for each of usThe graces we get from the Mass are essential, but sometimes we feel called to do more to

keep God always in our thoughts throughout the day. That’s when we can draw on devotions - external religious practices not part of the official liturgy of the Catholic Church. There are so many from which to choose and can be as unique as we are.Something for everyone.

The more devotions we know, the more we can use. Popular choices include the Rosary, novenas, adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, and celebrations in honor of Jesus and the saints. There are seasonal devotions, such as lighting an Advent wreath or praying the Stations of the Cross during Lent.Grow in love.

Devotions are designed to help us experience God in everyday life. Their regular use help us to see God anew and fall in love with him more each day. Find one - or more - that works for you.

Note: for ideas, try A Prayer Book of Catholic Devotions (Loyola Press, 800-621-1008, loyolapress.com).

Ever wonder why we have certain customs at Mass and why we have beliefs that can perplex our fellow Christians? All college students and adults in their 20’s and 30’s are invited to come and join us to learn more. We look forward to seeing you there!

• • •Divorced and Re-married?If you are divorced and remarried outside of the Catholic Church without a Decree of Invalidity, or if you are married outside of the Catholic Church, you may not partake of the Sacraments, including the reception of Holy Communion. Until it is shown otherwise through the ministry of the Tribunal, no person is free to enter into another marriage without the appearance or occasion of serious sin. A divorce alone would not affect, or hinder in any way, your participation in the Catholic Church. A divorced Catholic is free to receive the sacraments. However, if you are divorced and have remarried, or if you are divorced and in a new relationship, or if you are living with someone without a Decree of Invalidity (and your former spouse is still living) you may not partake of the sacraments, including the reception of Holy Communion).Consider seeking a Decree of Invalidity which will enable you to return to a full participation in the sacramental life of the Church. For more information contact Deacon Larry Bills at the Church office at 696-1253.

Dear PadreHow should we deliver the

Sign of Peace? What is the etiquette for the Sign of Peace?

I attend Mass alone and feel awkward as family members hug and kiss as though they haven’t seen each other in years but ignore me even though I’m standing right next to them.

The Sign of Peace is a time to acknowledge Christ’s presence in the congregation. It comes immediately before Communion. It is not time for shaking hands with someone you haven’t seen for a while or for running around the church greeting everyone. It is time for wishing peace to one another before we receive the Eucharist as one body.

Remember Christ’s words: “If you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you,…go first and be reconciled…” (Matthew 5:23-24). The Church’s guidelines state, “in a sober manner, offer the sign of peace only to those who are nearest” (General Instruction of the Roman Missal, 82). They also say that local conferences of bishops should establish norms according to the customs of the people.

It is appropriate for a husband and wife to kiss each other, or for parents to kiss their children; in some places an embrace is also appropriate. The important thing is to remember that Christ is present in our midst and to acknowledge that presence in one another. If you feel excluded, I would suggest you let them know after Mass. You can simply say, “I felt left out.”

GOOD NEWS!TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME (B)Gn 2:18-24 / Heb 2:9-11 / Mk 10:2-16 or 10:2-12

My mother was convinced that none of her children would get married. We were older when we were called to that vocation but, one by one, we did marry. I am happy to say that my husband and I continue to share this vocation three decades later, and we give our thanks to God. My sister was not as fortunate. After years of abuse, she divorced her husband. She did not make that decision lightly. She went into counseling, prayed, and talked. She considered her children, her husband, and herself. And she read and reread today’s Gospel from Mark. In the end, her safety and the safety of her children was a major concern.

Jesus railed against the ease of divorce. A man had simply to hand his wife a piece of paper, and he could do so for any reason, including infertility and a failure to please him. But Jesus advances the woman’s cause, refusing to allow her to be treated like a piece of property or disposed of at whim. He saw marriage as a sign of God’s covenantal love and lifelong fidelity and exalts it as a sacrament. When both spouses commit themselves to each other and to their vocation, this grace is made manifest, and their bond is strengthened. But sin and human brokenness can interfere with God’s plan, leaving separation or even divorce as the only option.

In the longer form of this reading, the people brought their children to Jesus, and he blessed them. Maybe we can do the same for those affected by abuse or divorce, so they too, at long last, can be healed.
