2018 Bishop’s Annual Appeal

Here I Am, Lord! One of the benefits of giving to our Bishop’s Annual Appeal is the knowledge that the funds support important needs in Morris, Passaic and Sussex Counties. This local connection means that you may be helping your next-door neighbor, your co-worker, the store owner you see each day as you shop in your community – perhaps even a family member. In this context, when you give to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal, you truly say: Here I Am, Lord – making a better life for my brothers and sisters in the area. Please consider making a pledge today.

Bishop Serratelli’s Pastoral Visit Saturday, September 22, 2018

From the Desk of Father Ed: Dear Parishioners, The season of fall has arrived along with pumpkins, bales of hay, corn stalks, and mums, and with temperatures that are more comfortable. The cooler weather motivates us to work on those projects that we might have put aside during the warmer summer months. I always remember the spring and fall cleanup that my mother would do each year in our house. She would be rearranging furniture, cleaning, and decorating the house. My dad would have us outside with him raking up leaves and preparing for the winter months ahead. In our Gospel this weekend, Jesus reminds us of the need to be working on our spiritual life, especially at rooting-out our sins. He teaches us that sin is a reality and sins end, that is, if we remain in deadly sin, is hell. Jesus makes use of hyperbole or exaggeration to emphasize the deadly consequence of remaining in sin. “If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off...If your foot causes you to sin, cut it off...And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out...Better for you to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into Gehenna, where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.” Jesus does not want us to cut off members of our bodies but rather to remove from us whatever causes us to sin. An examination of conscience is a powerful tool for us to use. Each night before going to sleep examine our hearts by asking the Lord to reveal to us where we failed to follow his commandments, where did we fail to love Him and our neighbor ? And when He reveals to us our sins and faults let us ask Him for the grace to work harder at growing in the spiritual life by persevering in prayer, staying close to the sacraments and practicing virtue. As we prepare for the colder months of winter ahead let us more importantly prepare for the Kingdom of Heaven that awaits us. Parish Life: Special thanks to the Knights of Columbus for assisting at the Bishop’s pastoral visit and their donation of $200 towards the cost of the refreshments that were offered after Mass. October 7th, is Respect Life Sunday. Please be sure to join us for our special Respect Life Prayer Service on Sunday, October 7 at 12:00 noon. Our guest speaker will be Father Anthony Mastroeni. This weekend, tags for the Respect Life Baby Shower will be available before and after all the weekend Masses. Please consider participating in the baby shower. Proceeds from the baby shower will be donated to Birth Haven and Good Council, which provides help for mothers in need. Join us for our one-day bus pilgrimage to the Shrine of the American Martyrs in Auriesville, NY on Friday, October 19. The fee is only $40 and children are free. Signup now online or call the office. Our Lady Queen of Peace, pray for us, Father Ed, Pastor
