REGISTER FOR OLV PARISH All Roman Catholics living within the boundaries of Our Lady of Victories Church should officially register; If you did NOT receive an Easter mailing you are probably NOT registered! Obtain a registration form from the priest after Mass or phone Maria at the Rectory. We strongly encourage you to register, even if you do not plan to use envelopes, so we can include you on our mailing list. Only registered members of the parish, who fulfill all other canonical [Church Law] requirements can obtain a Sponsor [Godparent] Certificate, letter of recommendation or other documentation.

It’s Not Over Yet Thanks to everyone who made a pledge to the Sharing God’s Blessings Appeal, but we still have not reached our goal. Please consider giving; Sharing God’s Blessings appeal envelopes are at the exits of the church. If you do fill it out, return it to Maria at the rectory.

DEAR PARENTS! Now that CCD is over ... It is a genuine cause for alarm that so many children, after attending our Parish Religious Education Classes (CCD), DO NOT attend Mass on the weekends. ALL the MONEY, TIME and COMMIT-MENT to our Catholic Religious Education is WASTED if PARENTS fail to impress upon their children the importance of worshipping on Sunday. There is no substitute for Sunday Mass.

CCD CORNER Congratulations to our second graders who received Holy Communion for the first time! May the Lord continue to nourish them at His table and watch over them in their work and in their play! We would like to thank all the teachers and staff that made this CCD year so productive and enjoyable. Their service to the children of the parish is a special calling, and we are very grateful. Today we will conclude our CCD year at the 9:30 Mass with our May crowning of the Blessed Mother followed by a Coffee/And. If you haven’t registered your child for next year’s classes, you can do so online or by stopping in at the CCD Office. This Wednesday evening at 6:30 there will Confirma-tion practice for the Confirmation Candidates and sponsors.

Our First Communion Class Fr. Wojciech’s Corner - Congratulations to our 21 First Holy Communicants, may it be the begin-ning of MANY times when Jesus’ Body makes yours into HIS. St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina would sometimes say to his spiritual children, "Do you not see the Madonna always beside the tabernacle?" And how could she fail to be there--she who "stood by the Cross of Jesus" on Calvary (John 19:25)? Meanwhile our 41 Confirmation candidates are preparing for the Sacra-ment of Confirmation next week (May 12 at 2PM with Bishop Marconi). Please pray for them. Thank you to parishioners who took a name of a candidate either for First Holy Communion or Confirmation to pray for, may God reward you. This weekend is our last CCD meeting. A few years ago when I just start-ed my priestly life, I remember there was a mother (only Spanish speaking) with 3 kids, she would come to a Mass in English, but she would not under-stand a word. She was there making that sacrifice for her kids. Her kids still today are solid Catholics - it paid off. We thank all the parents who took all it takes to invest into the religious formation of their children. Thumbs UP. Please join me this weekend in personally thanking Deacon Al, Sue Evanella, Mary Clare McLaughlin and ALL our teachers. May God reward you for your generosity and love for God and children. This past Wednesday OLV KOFC had their Shield and Arms awards and three of our altar servers received recognition: Anthony Ragucci, Nina Stonitsch, and Ellie Wiesner. CONGRATULATIONS and THANK YOU. The month of MAY is the month of MARY. How much SHE has done and still does to EASTER our lives. Next week as a tribute to her and to moms who need special help, through the initiative of the KOFC, we will hold the annual Baby Bottle Collection. I know that our OLV family has always been very generous with this drive. Next week we will celebrate Mothers Day. Please take advantage of taking a Mass card and offer it for your mom - or for somebody’s mom. I would like also to acknowledge our special “parish moms” our Rosarians who, in their motherly spirit, pray for the needs of our parish and will enjoy brunch with Fr. Anthony, the key note speaker. May Mary reward your love. And finally, let us not forget to celebrate HER (THE MOTHER) in our homes and make her our MOM this month.

SPIRITUAL EXCERPT Happy, indeed sublimely happy, is the person to whom the Holy Spirit re-veals the secret of Mary, thus imparting to him true knowledge of her. Happy the person to whom the Holy Spirit opens this enclosed garden for him to enter, and to whom the Holy Spirit gives access to this sealed fountain where he can draw water and drink deep draughts of the living waters of grace. That person will find only grace and no creature in the most lovable Virgin Mary. But he will find that the infinitely holy and exalted God is at the same time infinitely solicitous for him and understands his weaknesses. Since God is everywhere, he can be found everywhere, even in hell. But there is no place where God can be more present to his creature and more sympathetic to human weakness than in Mary. It was indeed for this very purpose that he came down from heaven. Everywhere else he is the Bread of the strong and the Bread of angels, but living in Mary he is the Bread of children. -- from The Secret of Mary, by Saint Louis Marie de Montfort

Prayer for the Safety of Soldiers Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in You will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of Your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of Your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise You for Your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Pray for Our Sick Please PRAY in the name of JESUS, the Healer, that the SICK of OLV PARISH may be restored to health and all those who ASSIST and CARE for the sick will be given the STRENGTH to continue GOD’S GOOD WILL: baby Cordelia, Richard Bolton, Sal Cenicola, Helen Choma, Vincent DePaola, Carl Falasca, Jay Filippone, Marie Filippone, Mary Foley, John Pal, Joyanna Peros, Jeremy Unanue, Brian, Carla, Chris, Dierdre, Edward, Elba, Jennifer, Joann, Lisa, Lucas, Lynn, Michael, Patrick, Paul, Peter, Robert, Sean.

M_[ning [n^ Us_s of Holy W[t_r Fonts filled with holy water for blessings are for three purposes: As a sign of repentance of sin, for protection from evil, and as a reminder of our Baptism. • The repentance of sin symbolized in the washing with water; • Holy water protects us against evil; • Holy water reminds us of our Bap-tism. In making the sign of the cross with the holy water, we are mindful that we are called to renew those baptismal promises of rejecting Satan, all his works, and all his empty promises, and to profess our cradle faith. —Fr. William Saunders, Catholic Straight Answers

STEWARDSHIP MY FAMILY – MY PARISH – MY RESPONSIBILITY

Did you ever notice that the price of a movie is now over $10, milk is almost $3 a gallon, and there is no longer such a thing as penny candy? The price of everything around us has increased, but has your weekly donation to the Church ever increased? That one dollar donation doesn't buy as much as it once did. As your expenses increase, so do those of the Church, but we rely on your generosity to meet our expenses. Please be generous. We never give more honour to Jesus than when we honour His Mother, and we honour her simply and solely to honour Him all the more perfectly. We go to her only as a way leading to the goal we seek - Jesus, her Son." --Saint Louis Marie de Montfort

Errors of Russia In 1917 Our Lady appeared six times to three children at Fatima, Portugal. As a Queen, arrayed in white and shimmering gold with a star at the edge of her gown, she reminds us of Esther. Our Lady is our Queen, and what she told the children just 92 years ago was her Peace Plan. She warned of the errors of Russia, which could spread through-out the world. She also told Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco the solution: Pray the Rosary every day, do penance and offer sacrifices in order to prevent the terrible calamities which would come about as a result of these “errors” from Russia. The confusion of mere opinion with worthwhile ideas or knowledge grows in a direct ratio to lack of genuine education. And probably never before have Americans been as poorly educated as they are today; the general cause being a deterioration of the philosophy of education. The true nature of ideas has been replaced by conjecture; that of knowledge with subjective reaction: Existentialism. Existentialism jettisoned all importance of history and tradition. As a result, each individual has been made his own teacher; each person’s subjective understandings have become important and significant, more so than the intellectual achievement of his ancestors. In this situation, the uneducated tend to make their masters and heroes anyone who expresses opinions compatible with their own. Modernism and Existentialism are interchangeable terms: subjective judgment without reference to history, science, truth or the magisterium of the church. Be on your guard!

Practice the Devotion of the First Saturdays as Requested by Our Lady of Fatima

On December 10, 1925, Our Lady appeared to Sister Lucia (seer of Fatima) and spoke these words: “Announce in my name that I promise to assist at the hour of death with the graces necessary for the salva-tion of their souls, all those who on the first Saturday of five consecutive months shall: 1. Go to confession; 2. Receive Holy Communion; 3. Recite the Rosary (5 decades); and 4. Keep me company for 15 minutes while meditating on the 15 mysteries of the Rosary with the intention of making reparation to me.” In a spirit of reparation, the above conditions are each to be preced-ed by the words: “In reparation for the offenses committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.” Confessions may be made during eight days before or after the first Saturday, and Holy Communion may be received at either the morning or evening Mass on the first Saturday.

*** “In dangers, in doubts, in difficulties, think of Mary, call upon Mary. Let not her name depart from your lips, never suffer it to leave your heart. And that you may obtain the assistance of her prayer, neglect not to walk in her footsteps. With her for guide, you shall never go astray; while invoking her, you shall never lose heart; so long as she is in your mind, you are safe from deception; while she holds your hand, you cannot fall; under her protection you have nothing to fear; if she walks before you, you shall not grow weary; if she shows you favor, you shall reach the goal." --Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, Father and Doctor of the Church

DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY & EASTER DUTY

CHANCES NOT OVER YET Jesus told St. Faustina that this Feast of Mercy would be a very special day when “all the divine floodgates through which graces flow are opened.” (Diary 699) Our Lord made a great promise to all those souls who would go to Confession and then receive Him in Holy Communion on the Feast of His Mercy, now called Divine Mercy Sunday throughout the Catholic Church. Jesus promised that “The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Com-munion shall obtain the complete forgiveness of sins and punish-ment.” (Diary 699) He went on to say “I want to grant a complete pardon to the souls that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion on the Feast of My Mercy.” (Diary 1109) We want to encourage everyone to take advantage of this incredible promise and the additional Plenary Indulgence on this great Feast of Mercy “Divine Mercy Sunday”. We want you to benefit fully from these promises, and we also want you to notify all of your family and friends about them too and urge them to return to the practice of their faith! It is required of all Catholics to confess their sins at least once every year. If you haven’t had the opportunity to meet this obligation then take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to receive an outpouring of an ocean of graces that Jesus promises. Those who have already confessed sins for Easter could make room for others. It is allowed for one to go to Confession up to about 20 days, before or after Divine Mercy Sunday. The time for fulfilling the Paschal Precept (Easter Duty), that is the obligation of receiving the Eucharist for Easter extends to the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity, June 16. No one conscious of committing a serious or mortal sin should receive Holy Commun-ion until they have first gone to the Sacrament of Reconciliation a.k.a. Confession. Confessions are heard EVERY Saturday from 11:00AM to Noon and 3:00-3:45PM, every weekday morning at 7:30AM. A Priest is also available to hear Confessions daily by appointment.

Vehicle for God to Travel Around His Country We are all different vehicles created by God to travel around and reach various destinations. Prayer is the fuel that drives Christian life. Just as a vehicle can offer maximum mileage only if it maintains an optimum combination of fuel and oil, the mileage (the souls we gain for Christ) will directly depend on the fuel (prayer) and oil (love) within us. If a vehicle does not give us the mileage that is claimed of it, one of the first things we do is to take it to the service station. The service station, as far as a Catholic is concerned, is the confessional. Another important factor is the amount of air (Word of God) in the tires. A punctured tire can take even a good vehicle nowhere.

- 5 - Hail Mary, Full of Grace!

White Lily of the Trinity The following day, as Gertrude prayed, the Mother of God appeared to her, in the presence of the ever-adorable Trinity, under the form of a white lily, with three leaves, one standing erect, and the other two bent down. By this she understood that it was not without reason that the Blessed Mother of God was called White Lily of the Trinity, since She contained in herself, with more plenitude and perfection than any other creature, the virtues of the Most Holy Trinity, which she had never sullied by the slightest stain of sin. The upright leaf of the lily represented the omnipotence of God the Father, and the two leaves which bent down, the wisdom and love of the Son and the Holy Spirit, to which the Virgin approaches so nearly. Then the Blessed Virgin made known to her that if anyone salutes Her devoutly as the White Lily of the Trinity and vermilion rose of Heaven, She will show how she prevails by the omnipotence of the Father, how skillful she is in procuring the salvation of men by the wisdom of the Son, and with what exceeding love her heart is filled by the charity of the Holy Ghost. The Blessed Virgin added these words: "I will appear at the hour of death to those who salute me thus in such glory, that they will anticipate the very joys of Heaven." From this time the Saint frequently saluted the Holy Virgin or her images with the below words:

"Hail white lily of the ever peaceful and glorious Trinity! Hail, effulgent rose, the delight of Heaven,

Of whom the King of Heaven was born and by whose milk He was nourished!

Nourish our souls by the effusions of thy Divine influences." (Known as the 'Hail Mary of Gold' prayer)

—The Revelations of St. Gertrude, Book 3, Chapter 18

The Church — People of God Based upon the Catechism of the Catholic Church

The Church is our communion with Jesus. Christ is the vine and we are the branches. Christ established and ever sustains, here on earth, His holy Church — the community of faith, hope and love — as a visible organization. Christ is the head and we are the members. Together with Christ we make up the whole Church. Let us rejoice and give thanks that we have become not only Christians, but Christ himself! For if He is the head and we the members, He and we together are the whole man. The fullness of Christ then is the head and the members. But what does “head and members” mean? Christ and the Church. A reply by St. Joan of Arc to her judges sums up the faith of the holy doctors and the good sense of the believer: “About Jesus and the Church, I simply know they’re just one thing and we shouldn’t complicate the matter.”

"Before, by yourself, you couldn't. Now, you've turned to our Lady, and with her, how easy!"

Father O’Malley answers the phone. - Hello, is this Father O’Malley? - It is. - This is the IRS. Can you help us? - I can. - Do you know a Ted Houlihan? - I do. - Is he a member of your congregation? - He is. - Did he donate $10,000 to the church? - He will.

TAKE the KEYS The host was eager to give his friend a gift before he left. "Listen, friend, I am not going to give you any books, chocolate, flowers, or any other knick-knack... You are too dear to me. I am going to give you the key to my house. Whenever you want, just come over and enter! My home is your home! Whatever is in here is yours also. Just feel at home...." [Christ has the keys, get the keys and you will get home]. “I hold the keys…” Rev 1:18

ISN’T IT STRANGE Isn't it strange how a 20 dollar bill seems like such a large amount when you donate it to church, but such a small amount when you go shopping? Isn't it strange how 2 hours seem so long when you're at church, and how short they seem when you're watching a good movie? Isn't it strange that you can't find a word to say when you're praying, but you have no trouble thinking what to talk about with a friend? Isn't it strange how difficult and boring it is to read one chapter of the Bible, but how easy it is to read 100 pages of a popular novel, such as HARRY POTTER? Isn't it strange how everyone wants front-row tickets to concerts or games, but they do whatever is possible to sit in the last row in Church? Isn't it strange how we need to know about an event for Church 2-3 weeks before the day so we can include it in our agenda, but we can adjust it for other events at the last minute? Isn't it strange how difficult it is to learn a fact about God to share with others, but how easy it is to learn, understand, extend and repeat gossip? Isn't it strange how we believe everything that magazines and news-papers say, but we question the words in the Bible? Isn't it strange how everyone wants a place in Heaven, but they don't want to believe, do, or say anything to get there?
