Dear Parishioners, As I listen to parishioners who speak with me I become very aware of the stress

many of your feel. There are challenges in our families, in our work places, in our personal lives and in our churches. Unlike a winter that we know will end in spring, this COVID-19 will evolve in ways we cannot fully predict. There are positive developments. Treatments for the seriously ill are improving. Vaccine development is moving forward. Yet there are so many variables. This requires real trust in God and real compassion for each other. One of my favorite quotes is from saint John of the Cross, who was a fifteenth century Car-melite whose life turned in many unforeseen directions. He wrote, “Well and good that all things change, as long as we stay with Thee, O Lord.” For John of the Cross his constant was Jesus Christ. He could handle all sorts of challenges as long as Christ was with him. Perhaps in these challenging days we can remember his prayer and ask the Lord to remain close to us. We are opened as much as we can be for the time being. Our Sunday Masses have been re-stored, as have our weekday Masses. Adoration has returned. We are celebrating funerals, wed-dings, and baptisms. Sadly, of course, we must keep each other safe which means practicing so-cial distancing, frequent handwashing, and wearing of face coverings. In that sense we are not open fully but it is still gratifying to see many in church. There may be some minor adjustments to the schedule in coming weeks, which will put us more in line with our traditional schedule. I sus-pect, however, that we will be in this limited mode for some time to come. The energies of many are on the reopening of Religious Education. We are following the principles of safety created collaboratively with the Department of Health and the Catholic Dio-ceses in Illinois. It is not easy and we are grateful for the patience of our families. Once this is running then we can begin a more adequate restarting some of our other ministries. I will be on vacation for a few days. Please know you remain in my prayers. In Christ,

Father Mike

Even though we can have a public gathering of the Mass,

we are only at a small percentage of normal Mass attend-

ance. Yet, we still have our normal daily operation costs at

the church.
