24th Sunday in Ordinary Time Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church September 13, 2020
Dear OLSH Family:
We must forgive! That’s undeniably the message of today’s Gospel. And while forgiveness is the clear law of the Lord, isn’t it so foreign to our lives in these times? We’re like the opposite of forgiv-
ing. Our culture certainly is. So, what can we do to show something different? How can we be what Jesus clearly wants us to be? Well, of course, it’s not easy. When we have been hurt, it increases the pain of some of the other wounds of our lives. Betrayal can be agonizing. And we want to be safe. And we can do that while forgiving. And we want to forgive, don’t we? Look at the love of God on the cross. Isn’t that the love we want to live? We under-standably don’t wake up in the morning wanting to be cru-cified like Jesus was, but we do believe that sharing in His suffering makes us more like Him – don’t we? And we know the world needs that love, don’t we?
Jesus, make us forgiving. Help us to know in greater depths the power of your forgiveness.
And, please, please, please: If you have not been to Con-fession this year, come to Confession! We are here on Sat-urdays before Mass or you can call the rectory. Don’t stay away from this great Sacrament of the Church, the most intimate encounter with our Lord’s Divine Mercy! That’s how you forgive, by being forgiven by God Himself in the person of the priest!
With love and prayers, Fr. Francis

Remembering those we love
in a special way…
To remember our loved ones, living or deceased, or to celebrate a special life event, consider dedication of the Tabernacle Candle in either the Church or Chapel, a dona-tion for Altar Bread and Wine, or a donation for Altar Flowers for a week. Flowers will be placed on the altar in the main Church .
For any of the memorials or dedications, the name of your loved one along with the name of the person making the request will be printed in the Bulletin and they will be remembered in a special way by the Priests as they cele-brate Mass. Please call the Parish Office (359-1230) for more information

Prayer for Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in
the Most Holy Sacrament. I love you above
all things and I desire to receive you in
my soul. Since I cannot at this moment
receive you sacramentally, Come at least
spiritually into my heart. I embrace you
as if you were already there
And unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you.
Amen.
Prayers for the sick and those who are in need
Each week we update the list of members of our parish fami-ly who ask for special prayers to cope with the challenges of illness or other hardship. Please contact the Parish Office (359-1230) to add someone who needs our prayers.
We are also always delighted to receive a call that circumstanc-es have improved, asking us to remove someone from the list. Again, please call and we will be happy to make that change

Prayers to the Virgin Mary
for Protection
O Mary, you shine continuously on our jour-ney as a sign of salvation and hope. We entrust
ourselves to you, Health of the Sick.
At the foot of the Cross you participated in Jesus’ pain, with steadfast faith.
You, Our Lady of New York, know what we need.
We are certain that you will provide, so that, as you did at Cana of Galilee, joy and feasting might return after this moment of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the Father’s will and to do what Jesus tells us: He who took our sufferings upon Himself, and bore our sorrows to bring us, through the Cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. Amen.
We seek refuge under your protection, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our pleas – we who are put to the test – and deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin Amen.

Procedures and Guidelines
The book of Mass Intentions for October, November and December
2020 will open on Tuesday September 15, at 9 AM.
A. Procedures: Due to the current COVID 19 situation, our procedures for reserving a Mass have been revised. We have
developed what we hope will be a simple process designed to keep everyone safe while at the same time providing the
opportunity to remember your loved ones on the dates that are meaningful for you. Please follow the instructions be-
low to reserve your Masses.
* Beginning at 9 AM on Tuesday, September 15, you may come to the Parish office in person (wearing a mask) , you may
call (359-1230) or you may e-mail ([email protected]) with your request.
* For email, please provide your name, phone number, the names of those to be remembered, and the date(s) requested.
* E-MAILS RECEIVED BEFORE 9AM WILL NOT BE ASSIGNED A MASS. You will receive a return email within 48 hours
acknowledging your request and providing information regarding how to submit your offering.
* Calls and email requests will be taken care of in the order they are received. However, please remember that the
office staff will also be handling in-person requests at the same time.
* Whenever possible Mass donations will be taken at the time a Mass is reserved. Please be prepared with a check,
credit card or cash.
B. Announced Masses: Announced Mass times on Saturday and Sunday remain unchanged. Since the beginning of the
pandemic restrictions, the daily 12:30 Mass has been suspended. However, the 12:30 intentions have been published in
the Bulletin and announced with the 8 AM live streamed Mass intentions. However, this has caused some confusion
since there was no Mass actually offered at 12:30.
In addition to the 8 AM Mass every day, our priests offer a Mass said privately at another time in the day in the Oratory
Chapel. Going forward, at least until the new year when we will reassess the situation, instead of listing an announced
Mass at 12:30, it will be listed as being offered during that day in the Oratory Chapel. The Mass will be announced in
the Bulletin and the intention will also be announced at the 8AM Mass. Since Canon Law prohibits more than two
intentions for a Mass, this allows us to be able to remember all of the intentions that you offer on the dates that are
meaningful for you. We appreciate your understanding.
C. General Guidelines: We are happy to share that the guidelines for reserving Masses now in place have made it pos-
sible for many more members of our parish family to remember their loved ones on days and dates that are meaningful
for them. Your understanding and support is sincerely appreciated. In the Christian spirit of loving and helping each
other, please note the following:
1. With the agreement of both persons who are requesting a Mass, the Mass can be offered for TWO intentions. When
you request a Mass you will be asked if you would agree to sharing that Mass with someone else for whom that day is
significant. If you do, a note will be made in the Mass book. If you request a Mass via email – please indicate in the email
whether you would be willing to share. The Mass is a most powerful prayer and God will bless your kindness, under-
standing and generosity of spirit.
2. To make it possible for as many members of our parish family as possible to remember their loved ones on days and
dates that are meaningful for them, during the first week the Mass book is open:
a) An individual or household may reserve up to three weekend Masses.
b) For weekday Masses, including Saturday at 9 AM., an individual or household may reserve up to four Masses
for the same individual on the same day of the week at the same time. (Ex. Up to 4 Masses on Thursdays at 8 AM for
Joe Smith)
3. You may call the Parish Office (359-1230) any day during business hours (9am-3pm) to reserve a Mass. Please remem-
ber, however, that when the Mass book first opens there may be significant wait time as the secretary attends to those
in the office.
D. Mass Offerings: Offerings for Masses may be made in cash, by check or by credit card. All Mass offerings should be
made prior to the date of the Mass. The offering is $15.00.
We sincerely appreciate your cooperation and understanding in these challenging days.
