Thoughts From Fr. Tom,
In the Gospel this weekend, the apostles say to Jesus: Increase our faith. How many times have we thought to ourselves that if only we had more faith our problems would be lessened and our burdens would be lighter? But Jesus’ response to the apostles reminds us of one of the important mysteries of our faith: even faith the size of a mustard seed, one of the smallest of seeds, can cause great things to happen. So the lesson we learn is that it is not always a matter of having more faith, but using the faith we have been given. We are called to trust in this gift of faith and respond to this free gift by being humble servants. This is what followers of Jesus are obliged to do. How can we use our faith today to do something great in Christ’s name? Every other year the diocese hosts the Bishops Award Recognition Mass and invites each parish to designate a couple of honorees. The Mass was held last Sunday and this year Our Lady of the Presentation honored Diane Shireman and Greg & Mary Yates. There is not enough room on this page to list all the ways they have been involved in our parish, so I will mention a few. Diane has been active on our Stewardship Commit-tee, Fish Fry Team and serves as a Sunday Mass Coordi-nator, a Communion Minister at Mass, and our parish Wedding Coordinator. We honored Greg and Mary as a couple because they are often seen doing things together, but each also has shared their gifts in particular ministries. Greg has served for years as a catechist in our Children’s Faith Formation program and Mary uses her creative skills to decorate the church, Mulligan Room, and Adoration Chapel throughout the seasons of the year. Over the years, they have also worked hard to build up our Adoration ministry and ensure that it is an important part of the prayer life of our parish. We are very grateful for the many ways Diane, Greg, and Mary share their gifts with our parish. Please congratulate them on this award and thank them for their service. The month of October is designated yearly by the Catholic Church as Respect Life Month. This is an opportunity for us to focus on our call to recognize the sacredness and dignity of all human life. This includes a broad range of issues such as the protection of the unborn, the death penalty, end of life decisions, the needs of children, elderly, disabled, and the poor. During October, we will be providing resources so we all can learn more about these important issues. Please take time to inform yourself and pray about ways you can be an advocate for these life issues. Our ministries for Young Families and Young Adults have been growing and continue to offer regular opportunities for participation. Check the bulletin for ways to get involved. Many Blessings!

The Kindergarten/Eighth grade buddy program is a favorite tradi on at Our Lady of the Presenta on School. The Eighth graders cherish this aspect of their school year even more than the Kindergartners do! For Kindergartners, having an Eighth grade buddy gives them a feeling of belonging at OLP from the very beginning of the year. They have a “big kid” connec on immediately. Through this program, Eighth graders get a chance to feel the responsibility of bonding with and nurturing a li le one. They know that teachers have confidence in them to be caring, kind and exemplary for their buddies. What a huge boost for those Eighth graders! They seem so adult when they are with their buddies! Yet, they play on the playground with their Kindergarten buddies as if they are li le kids too. Kindergartners and their Eighth grade buddies will get together throughout the school year to work on projects and read stories together. In September, buddies met to put together a “Buddy Book” that they will work on together over the course of the year!
Fall is officially here and we will kick off October with our annual field trip to Faulkner’s Farm. The classes will get to do several fun activities such as taking a hayride, going through the corn maze and picking their own pumpkin from the patch. Since our little ones don’t go on our field trips Faulkner’s scarecrow will be coming to OLP ECC to read to the toddler and two’s classes and bring tiny pumpkins for them to pick in our own pumpkin patch. If you are still looking for a Pre-K experience for your child we do have a few full-time open-ings. Feel free to give us a call or stop in with questions and to take a tour. You may contact us at 251-1140 or email Cathy Koob at [email protected].

THE YEAR OF MERCY
Pope Francis offers advice for married couples
Several times during this Year of Mercy,
Pope Francis has addressed engaged and married couples, offering his advice. Among his comments:
Once you say 'I do' you can't cross your arms and wait. Because marriage is work and a life long
commitment.
Make time for one another, even if you are busy. Love needs time and space; everything else is
secondary. Time is needed to talk things over, to embrace leisurely, to share plans, to listen to one other and gaze in each other's eyes, to appreciate one another and to build a stronger relationship. Sometimes the frenetic pace of our society and the
pressures of the workplace create problems. At other times, the problem is the lack of quality time together, sharing the same room without one even
noticing the other."
Make some time for your marriage by attending our annual offering for couples.
